I wouldn't really want anyone to actually die, but Jack and Jacob were pretty much expendable to me. Gotta keep em alive for ME 3 though

I haven't played Mass Effect 2, but from what I've seen probably Morinth and Samara.

You will never be a better Liara :O.

I was genuinly happy when I saw that Miranda was dead. She wasn't even that hot.
The last one I'd want to die is Tali as she's my main Shep's romance.

I think I would have liked it if someone HAD to die, like in Mass Effect 1- it was a surprisingly hard decision in the first one of who to let die (at least for me)

The idea that I came up with was that, when The Collectors launch the surprise attack after you get the Reaper IFF- that your next 'mission' involves you bringing your squad with you, but having to leave one person behind for a problem on the Normandy upon departure.
When the Collectors attack, the squad member has to fight to escort Joker through the ship.
Barely succeeding in getting Joker safely through, it comes down to whether that Squad Member is loyal or not.

If they are loyal, they are overwhelmed and taken with the Cerberus crew.
If they are not loyal, they are killed by the Collectors, or a Praetorian (etc)

This then adds either the urgency to rescue your Squad Member alive, with the crew- or to avenge their death with violence.
Additionally, this adds another level of weight to your decisions to other parts of the game, besides the End-Game section. You might pick your best, most loyal squadie to stay behind, out of trust, then frantically rush to get them back from the Collector Base, for their safety- and because you've used them in combat through most of the game, so combat literally FEELS different, harder. No matter the outcome, it also brings the feeling of remorse, knowing how things can really get FUBAR, and helplessness that Shepard's orders, which have gotten everyone so far, suddenly went so wrong and endangered one of the core crew members. Not to mention it builds up more hate and antagonism for the Collectors, or Harbinger, that keeps saying how he will 'hurt you' whenever you fight his avatars.

Not to mention that the squad member COULD be rescued with the rest of the crew- so doesnt interfere with that whole No One Left Behind achievement stuff.
This post is full of so much win. That would have been amazing...

Even though I like that you can get the no one left behind achievement, I liked the weight and the player punch that Virmire was. Even replaying it, knowing exactly what will happen, it's still wrenching to watch.

Well I wouldn't really want any of them to die. Sure I didn't find all of them interesting, but that's hardly a cause for death. But if I had to let someone die it would be Zaeed. Mainly because he was the only one who wasn't loyal at point (I didn't have Kasumi until afterwards, but she's loyal). Plus Zaeed cost me Legion. I'm not a huge Legion fan, but he was one of my more favored teammates.

In my "final" playthrough it ended up with Legion, Jacob, and Zaeed dead. Now, unlike a lot of people, I kinda liked Jacob. He reminded me alot of Kaiden (who also fell in battle), not hugely interesting, but an honest guy and someone I'd want at my back. Both he and Kaiden will me missed.

Although, come to think of it, I wouldn't have minded if Miranda bit the dust either. I never really found anything endearing about her unlike the rest of the team. Wouldn't want her killed, but she is one of my least favored.

If I had to? Probably.....Jack. Ugh.

But in my game everyone lived. Now I have to match my friend and do that in Insanity Mode.

Both and and my best friend did a little dance when Miranda got shot. She was just so...horrible. Unfortunately, no amount of Yvonne Strahovski can fix a personality like that, God's gift to men she may be. I also didn't mind much when Mordin died--he just wasn't my type, if that makes sense.

However, on the other end of the scale, I cried a little when Garrus got hit with a rocket (again).

They're all awesome in their own ways!

And anyone who is trying to sound dark and edgy by saying they meant to let them all die can save it because we don't wanna hear your wannabe emo grot.

Tali, Zaeed and Garrus are my faves, looking forward to seeing Ashley/Kaiden, Liara and Wrex return in the Third Installment.

here is a list of the characters I hate: Zaeed, Jacob, Thane, Samara, and Mordin (sue me)

They can all die for all I care, especially Zaeed. Damn that man. You can't talk to him on your own, he is arrogant as hell, and he fucking sucks in a fight.

I had people I liked die in my first time through and I will continue that game when Mass Effect 3 comes out because I feel it gives the story a more emotional side to it.

None of them. I love every squad member and they are all needed to stop the ReapASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL
WHAT I MEANT TO SAY IS THAT WE SHOULD KILL SHEPHERD AND EVERYONE HE HAS EVER SPOKEN WITH. LONG LIVE THE REAPERS, OUR NEW OVERLORDS.
ALSO EDEN PRIME WAS AN INSIDE JOB.
RELEASING CONTROL.

What the fuck....

The first time I played, everyone survived...so I guess my Paragon Sentinel did her job well. That being said, of all the people I think should die:

Thane - Honestly, his holier-than-thou posturing really rubbed me the wrong way, plus he's not really the best knife in hand for, what basically became a shock assault once the plan went through the window. Something like "no plan survives contact with the enemy" or as a wise man (Mike Tyson) once said "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

Samara - I think this has more to do with her just doing something that will get her killed more than anything else. Her quest to rid the galaxy of her demon-loin spawn over, there's really little left for her to do but die taking as many collector's out as possible.

Grunt - See above. I think Grunt was a neat character, but he seems just as likely to die seeing how many more he can kill than living to fight the bigger fight...he's just too young to be as "long view" as Wrex.

Mordin - I love Mordin, but let's face it, he can break a hip escorting your crew back to the ship and bite it.

People I'm glad didn't die:

Jacob - Jacob was one of my favorite characters that wasn't Garrus and he was my first romance in ME2, ah young love. The reason I like Jacob is that he is like, the only person in the game who isn't completely messed up. He's thoughtful, intelligent and capable...hell, he's practically one of the only crew that acts like a damn soldier. Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4ze_R3TevE

Garrus S. Preston, Esq. - You cannot kill spotted horse with a bullet, whatever the collector's thought they were going to do to take him out he thought of last year and already had them scoped to be dropped.

I really only disliked Jack, though I felt sorry for her. Coincidentally, she was the only one that died on the suicide run for me. So I didn't really feel too badly about it.

Hey Jacob there's a prize in the vents.
I lol'd.
Yeah, no offense to him, but Jacob's just so... BORING. I mean, isn't he supposed to be some sort of super-soldier? He just acts like a nobody.

Oh, and maybe Zaeed(that how you spell him? meh, screw it.) But he's alright because he's SUPPOSED to be unlikeable, and he's kind of cool after his loyalty mission.

Thane first off, he's...bloody hell, he's pathetic. But he's the brooding anti-hero who spouts religious gibberish and goes on and on about honor (not that he knows what the word really means).

Next up is Miranda. I was annoyed half-way through my first play-through, when I had to...well, do her loyalty mission. Made me half like her. Then she was a total whore to Jack and I slapped her down like an irritating balloon floating over my breakfast. Wonderfully enough, both her and Thane were the only two to die in my first playthrough, huzzah.

Third would probably be...well...actually, nevermind. Third, no one. Just Thane (uninspired dork) and Miranda (fairly attractive, but do all British OR OTHER ANGLO-accented characters in video games these days need to be utter tossers? I've known many British OR OTHER ANGLO-accented folks in my life and most of them were certainly not assholes; don't see why they all have to act like that in video games).

***ALRIGHT, SHE'S AUSTRALIAN! PLEASE STOP MESSAGING ME (or calling me out by quote), I DON'T CARE ANYMORE. Please. Thank-you. Cheers.

There's nobody in Mass Effect that I dislike.

Miranda and Jacob aren't particularly deep, but I find them very likable.

Characters like Tali and Garus I have a strong connection to, and everyone else is at the very least(Jack and Grunt) a little bit interesting.

Some of them I don't want dead just because they intrigue me too much, and ME3 will be a better game for they're involvement(Mordin and Legion)

I think I would just do and hope for the best, but If I had to choose...

If it were real life:

Zaed(Is that how you spell it?): He's old and has lived a full life. Incidentally, he's also my least favorite character

Thane: Thane was another one of my favorite characters, but as much as I don't like it, he's going to die, saving a galaxy isn't such a bad way to go

Legion: He's not really an individual, so if he dies, it's less like an actual death and more like a concussion or minor lobotomy

Samera: Another favorite, but in a sense she's already dead. She's given up almost everything that has made her happy, I think her dying before she's forced to destroy herself even more could be considered mercy

But in game...

Tali(Maybe): Simple, love interest dying gives Sheppard a chance to develop further as a character and brings more weight to the situation. On the other hand, there's great potential for drama between her and Legion, and the Quarion war or lack thereof will have more weight with the addition of a personal connection

Jack: Not much else I can see being done with her character

Jacob: As likable as he is, he's still a token nice guy, a handicap to this day only Alister from DA:O has managed to make interesting. I think the best service his character can provide for the story is to have a tragic death

Zaed: Again, least favorite character. Cool and reasonably likable, but he pales in both categories compared to the other crew members

Jack: I hated her. Always got her loyalty last because I couldn't stand her. It was all "***** ***** moan moan". Worst character in ME history. She died in my first play through and I cheered.

Miranda: So dull and selfish. Horrible character. When she fought with Jack I was gonna let them kill each other if I could.

Jacob: The most boringest man ever. Died on my first play through as well. Was so excited. Can't stand him. I started a new play through, heard his voice in the first level and turned the console off I hate him that much.

Man I must hate humans...

I thought Thane was amazing. I loved Thane, Legion, Garrus, Tali (didn't talk to her much in ME1), Grunt and Mordin. The others were boring and dull. Samarea was alright but Liara was much better. And for the record, I always killed Kaidan too. He was the most boringest character. Till I killed him and I met Jacob.
