Who's your favourite female video game character?

So many to choose from .
Nina breath of fire series[not 5] She always starts as a whiney princess but as the game progresses she turns out to be useful if not vital.
Felicia from Darkstalkers. simply put Meow.
Samus for most of the reasons posted above but mostly cause i remeber beating the first metriod game and discovering with my awsome shock at that age that she was a she.
Princess Peach Hold on hear me out here. She gets captured all the time but she never gives into the demands and the over grown dragon turtle has yet to eat her . I doudt its because of her fighting skill but in regards to that her diplomicy has to be insanely high .
The fact that she also has lasted this long with just a couple of plumbers to resuce her floating butt is impressive. The fact that shes inspired so much illicite art work from fans just for wearing a victorian era pink frilly dress is something to ponder.

Cate Archer: sexy, sly, smart. Very unique, strong female character with a biting wit and a sharp trigger finger.
-Samus Aran: Powerful and courageous female character that is virtually fearless and not the stereotypical sissy or pretty ditz
-Terra Brantford: Her origin and quest to find her purpose for existence is quite moving. Her origin is both her strength and weakness, inspiring courage and doubt in herself. She felt like a real person that could be related to, and did not fall into cookie cutter stereotypes.
Celes Chere closely shares the same as Terra.

In general, FF6 has some of the best female characters ever to grace a videogame. As Seraph mentioned, both Celes and Terra deserve a mention.
But my favorite female videogame characters of all time, by far, are Led [http://www.valkyriestudios.com/LED.HTM] and Maya [http://www.valkyriestudios.com/MAYA.HTM] from Septerra Core. Led is this spunky, defiant character that bears an unnerving resemblance to my own sister (bless her obnoxious heart) and Maya has this intelligence and leadership that you rarely see portrayed in females characters, from videogames or otherwise.
Probably at least 3-4 of my top 10 favorite game characters of all time are from Septerra Core, actually.

Definetly Jade from Beyond Good and Evil. Beautiful while not forced, nice without annoying flare and a good personality with a healthy about of emotions. The fact that she took it on herself to raise a bunch of orphaned kids with her uncle tells you how good person she is.

Speaking of Anackronox, Stiletto was OK, but I wasn't that terribly impressed by her, not even with her dance thing. Same goes for the quantum physicist woman. She did have a "toughened wondering smarty girl" aura to her, but I didn't particularly feel any emotion from her aside "grrr, I'm tough". Kudos for making her not feel like a vulcan from Star Trek.
I sorta liked Rayne, but I never really got to know what kind of person she is. She is a gothy, super-strong action girl but she never really had much character. Then again, she doesn't need to be.
I may deserver the scorn of feminists for this, but I liked the mage girl from Dark Messiah. Sweet, cute, capable yet still looked like someone who's more then a bit of cardboard.
One more: the hacker girl from Project Eden. The game had a hilarious ending despite its very creepy build-up.

Technically speaking, I wouldn't consider her a female. She's an AI gone crawling-on-the-walls bonkers.

What? She's a crack shot, she rarely needs "saving" (she got that stomach wound in combat!), she builds bad-ass machinery, she's a famous figure in an underground resistance movement, she has amazing hacking skills and she cuts down enemies like wheat. I haven't finished Episode 2 but so far she's shown no overt attraction for Gordon, but of course she admires him: he's a legendary near-mythical hero in that world!
