The only time I'll ever really agree with Yahtzee is when he rips on a game I have actually played before, and especially so if he points out the annoyances or problems that seemed to bother me. Not to say though that I agree with all of his points on those games either...

As for the ones that I haven't played yet (mostly all of the ones he's reviewed) I just watch with an open mind and for entertainment. If he considered it extremely bad, and I was thinking of getting it to try it, his opinions will more than likely cause me to research other reviews and aspects of the game before I either skip it or go and buy it (since I can't really rent games anymore thanks to this shit economy closing all the movie/game rental stores >:C

Sometimes I agree with Yahtzee, and sometimes I don't.

I don't rely on Yahtzee strictly to help me pick what games to, or not to get, but I take a good look at his reviews and use his opinions to help me consider what games I want or don't want.

though depending on how Yahtzee describes the game, I admit I sometimes take him as my guide of 'what not to get' list of games, so far the only games he reviewed I didn't agree about were Fable 2, Soul Calibur 4, and another game that I forgot about.

As with all critics I use them as a sort of sounding board to help me make informed decisions but always reserve judgment for myself. Never has any review of a game or film or book that I wanted to play or watch or read dissuaded me from doing so. They just help me adjust my expectations. :)

Well, some of his opinions I agree with, like his review of Saints Row 2 (And his attack in that review of GT4.) but at the same time at times I think that he looks for every reason to hate a game at times as well, which is not always a bad thing but at times I think he kills the fun he could be having with a game by doing this as well.

So usually I agree with pieces here and there but regardless I play what I like regardless of his opinions.

Look, I agree with his points 100% (until he's dishing out the 'THIS IS COMPLETE SHITE!' with a side of 'FUCKINGCOCKTITTYBLOOD!!!!!') but i use it as a way to gauge if a game is going to bother me.

There's also the trick where you hold up all of your fingers, and put one down for every insult he makes to the game. If you still have a few up by the time the video's over, It's alright.

Mostly, people watch it because he's hilarious, and when he's not hilarious, he's pretty darn funny.

I realize that his reviews are more rants than actual reviews. However I often take into account what he says simply because I find myself agreeing with him more often than not and because we have surprisingly similar taste in games. As a result I find his 'reviews' a lot more helpful overall than most of the more 'official' politically correct reviews out there that give mediocre games 10/10 scores.

By the responses of a lot of people on this site, I was beginning to think I was the only person who thought this...

He rarely gives his actual opinion of a game and instead just points out the negatives. He does that because, as he himself said, it's funnier that way.

I also love your comparison to the Colbert Report. That pretty much sums the show up exactly.

I watch Yahtzee because while he's a one trick pony it's a damned amusing trick. His particular brand of rapid fire bile makes me giggle. Then I go and play whatever I damned well please. Damn I say damn a lot and, frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

In Yahtzee's older reviews the actually pointed out the bad parts and some of the good parts and came to a conclusion. Now he focuses on a few bad things and basically is a dick. It seems like he's just being harsh on games for the hell of it, rather than reviewing them.

I rarely have the same opinion with Yahtzee. Unless I allready think the game was gonna be bad. Thats about it. The people who take his review seriously need to be smacked.
Sir John The Net Knight said:
ZP used to be a lot funnier when the jokes where more or less directed at overused cliches and uninteresting design features that continually get shoehorned in by game companies, as well ripping on games that are confusingly popular in a manner that was tactlessly accurate. Now it seems that Yahtzee concentrates mainly on attempting to insult the maximum number of potential viewers with every episode, as well as peddling his crappy merchandise. So not only has he become a totally unlikable jerk, he's also a complete sellout.
Calling him a sellout is a little over the top, dont you think? He hasnt changed his style at all, its been the same old thing. Its like a roast, except we dont get to say anything to him

I like his reviews for the fact that he states what other reviewers don't, plus they're comedic. I don't take them serious. I hardly ever take a reviewers word serious (e.g. Lost Planet 2). I liked the demo especially the co-op

Im sorry, but after the 90th thread about this stuff, you question why people keep posting them..

Yes, he is funny. I personally think he is very funny, even on ones where he says awful things about games i love. It is all for fun and laughs.
The people who get mad about his reviews are wasting energy. Listen to all of them, and you will see the countless flaws, the pointless nit picking, and over all bad game review style(he reviews games in the form of a book review, common mistake but fatal to reliability), in my personal opinion.

And why should my opinion matter? It doesnt. And it never will. He will never change, we will never stop watching. I will now create a thread about how these threads are funny but inaccurate and that they should be taking as funny instead of serious, because the irony must go on..

I just wrote a three paragraph rant and do to a forum error it was all deleted, do this is what you get.
To summarize: He is funny, but not a good game critic, and this is the 90th thread pointing it out, so you get a slice of cake. There was a paragraph about making an ironic forum, but now you are stuck with the irony, that you are being offered cake by one with no cake.

It's not a lie, it's a disappointing realization.

I think yahtzee is funny as hell, i watch the videos to see what he thinks of a game wether i like that particular game or not. It doesnt matter if its one of my favorite games, i love to hear yahtzee rip it a new one.

I do on occasion avoid certain games that he has few kind words for but not before checking with other people that i know or at least renting the game to see whats what with my own eyes. Of course there are always a few excpetions to that, such as Brutal Legend, Too Human, and MOH: Airborne. Airborne was horrible, I like my WWII shooters to be you know WWII shooters, and I didnt even go near Brutal Legend because i hate jack black, he's an annoying lumpy headed twat and Brutal legend was barely more than a pile of shit that had been eaten and thrown back up again by one of the Flood combat forms from Halo.

Like I said he's funny as hell, wendsday is by far my favorite day of the week because it means theres a new zp vid but yahtzee and i dont quite see eye to eye on some games but if i enjoy the game then i dont care what he thinks.

also his hat is awsome but we all know that.

ZP might not be a good reviewer, but he often brings up valid points that everyone seems to forget. The Saints Row 2 vs GTA 4 arguments are a good example. No reviewer on earth would ever rate SR2 over GTA4, but truth is, while it might be an inferior gaming in technical aspects, most SR2 players would agree it is a lot more fun.

I don't take his words like they are sacred writings or anything, and I disagree more often than not (like saying UC2 brings nothing new to gaming, when it was one of the most revolutionary games of the year, and most stuff about JRPGs), but he does bring up valid arguments overlooked by "classic" reviewers, because he looks at the game from the perspective of a gamer, reviewing it with fun factor being the most important aspect of the game, not the technical advances and shiny graphics on yet another average space marine shooter like every other reviewer out there.

He just absolutely evicerated my most recent "gaming love" - Splinter Cell: Conviction. So? Doesn't mean I have to agree with him and doesn't mean that I have to dislike his show. The review was funny, I laughed and went on to play the game.
However, if Yahtzee reviews the game I haven't played, I do tend to trust his opinion (seriously, I played BC2 after his review - holy shit, was it spot on).

I don't really consider him a *professional* critic, anymore than I do my friends. I'm sure he doesn't try to make all games sound bad, he's just biased.
Like he should be, a fair analysis wouldn't be nearly as funny.
