Why are most Anime nowadays absolutely stupid.

I... Hate.... Naruto....

The only anime shows I can watch now are .Hack//Sign and .Hack//Roots, which sucks cause I finished both of them 0.0
If I turn the channel and I find Inuyasha, I'll watch that too. Oh, and I used to watch DBZ a long time ago.

I'm really not the biggest fan of Anime, I guess. I do like some of the old ones when I find them, though. Oooh, which reminds me, I was watching "Now and Then, Here and There" for a while. I'm pretty sure that was an old one. I can't find it on tv anymore though.

Old anime is good anime. A lot of the stuff now is just based on the fact it's a cartoon, skipping out on awesome plots.
I'll repeat myself, Gundam 00, tell me that has a bad plot, go ahead try. Oh and the best place to go is to find anime is the internet, subs are better to begin with and you can find new anime that hasn't made it to anywhere else, which tends to be the good stuff.

Well, that's probably a formula applicable to most shonen shows with more then 50 or 100 episodes. The longer it draws on, the worse it becomes >_<
Which is why a good rule of thumb is, stop watching past episode 50. Any good, self respecting anime will have run its course by then. The only exception I'm willing to make to that rule is Kenshin. Though even kenshin got pretty lame after the Kyoto arc.
Hey, watching Kenshin fight secret Christians is funny.

I personally draw the line at 100, not to say I've never broken that rule. I've watched all of Prince of Tennis, all 175 episodes of it, and I'm still not quite sure why. I also still watch Bleach and One Piece, but given the chance I would more likely re-watch an old anime or try to get my hands on a new one.

Also a question to anyone who reads this, Whats your opinion on One Piece? I can tell that the opinion on Bleach here ranges from crap to meh and naruto fares worse, but as far as I can tell, no one has mentioned One Piece. I'm just curious, seeing as how thats the one of the three animes mentioned in this paragraph that I can honestly say I enjoy fully.

I don't think you can blame One Piece for being bad just on it's own. 4Kids had a lot to do with that... pretty much all of it, actually

Anime never follows a protagonist from beginning to end without spewing at least 27.4 new characters for us to have to find out about. The two worst offenders of this crime are Bleach and Naruto. I remember watching Bleach and thinking, "Well, this ain't bad, not the best, but I could watch this." Cut to a season or 2 later and suddenly they expect us to care about all the backstories of all the mother fucking reaper people and why they hate people who poop on cats! I could have sworn I was watching a story about the main character introduced to me in the beginning! What if Star Wars cut away from Luke's journey and just wandered off to tell us about an Ewok named Fiddly Nuts and how he just HATES waffle irons? There would be a lot of pissed of nerds out there! It's the ADHD of anime. After a few minutes with one character, the writers get bored, see something awfully sparkly and invent Captain Wiffle Bottom, the guy who stands in corners and watches turtles walk about. And of course we can't forget about the turtles epic journey through life that led him to the point we meet him. What the fuck was I talking about? Oh yeah, I hate tape! It tastes like shit! *yammering continues, fade to black, lights go up, audience silent, small child crying*
If I was in your audience, I'd be clapping.

I can only think of one anime that remained good for a really long time. That was Pokemon, until Diamond and Pearl season started.

Code Geass is great. Nothing beats a show about terrorists.
FLCL is perfect. Only a handful of characters and less than ten episodes.
Cowboy Bebop was also good.

The biggest problems for anime to me these days is the Bleach formula that Crash486 was talking about or that there is so many characters that you need a piece of scratch paper to keep up with the bloody thing. Now I mean Bleach has good moment, but still you can't exactly have every episode of the orange haired bastard fight *insert person A here* be nearly killed, be saved by *insert person B here*, then find some mystical power he forgot in his other pair of trousers then with or without *person C,D,E,F, or G* he goes and defeats or kills *A* and they live happily ever after. Until two days later some other new creature shows up and Ichigo is bum fucked yet again.

Fight, Die, Magic, Win, Repeat.

I prefer anime with a good amount of violence (because who doesn't) and little more plot. Alright, rant over...

Ain't it the same with all shounens (fighting shows), they are all trying to be DBZ. Lately Ichigo in the manga unlocked an espada type of form and fighting ability to fight emo espada toe to toe in his released form.

One piece can be forgiven, considering the humor is always present and never seems to get old.

Are we counting Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note in the nowadays? If so I disagree. Take a look at all the recent shows that haven't been retarded. Gundam, Full Metal Panic, Code Geass, Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note.

There are certainly a lot more stupid animes but I think you'll see that there are many more animes. It's a matter of per capita.

I hadn't read the manga in a while actually... whoops... but I can see what you're saying.

But no one, NO ONE, should like these point animes. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, look at Yugioh, or this new shit Bakugan. These aren't even fun to /listen/ to! Any anime that has a point system AT ALL should be prepared for when I come around with a large flying mechanical pirate ship and make the bastards walk the plank into a vat of acid and carnivorous cockroaches!

Alright. I think I'm done for a while...

I didn't really enjoy One Peice to be honest. But I guess I never really gave it a fair chance to win me over. I started watching it with a biased opinion not in its favor.

I love Full Metal Alchemist ^^ But what do these have? They have a plot. If you removed all the fighting from these, they would at least still be standing. Things based on combat aren't good. Usually. Ugh, I sound like an old man screaming to have someone turn off ZZ Top...

Shit like Azumanga Daioh (I know, thats spelt wrong. Don't expect me to remember it) and The Ballad of Suzy Something-Something (Thats wrong too) blow my mind.

At least stuff like Bleach and Naruto don't cover up the fact the storyline sucks, and skip right to the action and killing off characters you like so you can go "SHIT!".

(Then again, all things being said, I actually like Love Hina. Though it made me cringe alot.)

Agreed. But just because it lacks a plot doesn't make it bad. It's simply plotless. I love watching epic fight scenes in anime, it's why I go on youtube to watch random Naruto fights every so often.

I think there's a heavy elitism attitude coming from the idea that animes are awful unless they challenge intellectually.

Anime is like everything else, there's good and bad anime.

And anime isn't aimed at kids you fuckwits, the west just can't comprehend why adults would like any of it, so all the shows we see are the ones america has singled-out for children.

Like Gormourn puts it:

Since I was about 12 or so, I never really liked anime. The reason it's all absolutely stupid is because it's aimed at young, undiscerning audiences, or an audience of ridiculous nerds who will watch and enjoy it simply because it's anime. It's bad for the same reason porn is bad: because it doesn't need to be good in order to be profitable.

My least favorite anime cliche is the only joke that is ever used in anime: male character says something lecherous, female character reacts loudly and angrily, and possibly with violence. This isn't funny and never was funny, and almost every joke I've ever seen in anime is either exactly this or a variation on it.
Oh please, generalizing, eh?

Some anime is really, really serious. And I mean it.

There is good anime and there is bad anime. But, unfortunatelly, there is only this much good anime compared to heaps of bad anime. You know, just the same as anything else in other types of media ? (And anime is just a medium.)

Anime pwnd in two paragraphs by GMBlues.

You don't have to be a perverted misogynist to write anime, but it sure does help.

That said, the form alone cannot preclude great art, but generally speaking any animated programme aiming to sell products to kids/teens is going to be sh!t, whatever culture produced it.

Unfortunately I haven't witnessed a good anime show in quite some time. Perhaps you could recommend somewhere that I could found about new anime creations. Being in Australia, it's not very easy to get a look at the new anime shows with the only channel showing them being SBS.[/quote]

I seriously suggest Death Note. Animation is gorgeous, and there's some serious mind-fuck moments. I have a friend who isn't even in to anime who likes it.
As for anime cliches I hate, my no. 1's gotta spastard "genki" girls. My blood pressure seriously spikes every time one of those things show up on screen.

Why should they make a high quality production with a great story, stunning visuals, and maybe some excellent fighting, when they can just churn out another "boy meets/creates/summons generic beautiful girl X" throw in some panty shots and some perverted humor, and get all the viewers they need?
Because for some reason that's beyond my capacity to understand people will flock to thoes types of shows no mater how awful they are.
