Since I won't read every post in this discussion, I'll answer directly; Two factors are to blame. Communism, and the Cold War. Our history with Russia and the nuclear stand-off makes them 2nd only to Hitler and his 3rd Reich. Communists are Americas' old nemesis. They were like our current day Terrorists. Well, the concept of villianry, that is. Maybe not quite the same scale of danger, but concept.

Combined these two factors make Russia popular villians in old media. Years down the road, I'm sure there'll be plenty of movies featuring al-queda and islamics as villians... oh wait!
