I'm pretty sure the game developers would have put it in but the ESRB shot it down because they are moral. However Moral Suck.

Maybe they should set every game in the past, like MGS3, and any time a kid dies it turns out they were important in some way to your story...

Because if we could those people who say that video games are bad and too violent will have some hard evidence to eradicate games forever.

The existence of this thread proves how fucked up we are as a society. Granted, in fallout 1 & 2, you could kill little kids, but graphics were so low-tech and games weren't that big of a thing to bring public attention to.

Now, we have graphics that look more real than reality itself, it's obvious that REALISTICALLY killing children would cause extreme media uproar, calling this game "disgusting, disturbing, and outright wrong," and they would be right. Society has made children untouchable. It's why Chucky is more creepy that Jason Vorhees. The girl from the ring more disturbing that Freddy Krueger. Children are seen as a beacon of hope in a time of war, poverty, and worldwide despair. Destroying that beacon would either make people think that this game has crossed the line, or that our line needs to be redrawn. This would result in either a game that can't legally be sold, or games where we can have graphic rape in them. Hey, if realistically shooting a child in the head and seeing it be blown to smithereens is okay, then why not other disturbing and sick crimes?

In short, it's more of an unwritten rule. Currently, there are no legal laws in place that say that someone can't make such a game. This game, if made, wouldn't find a publisher. Six Days In Fallujah was dropped, and that just depicts adults killing each other.

eradicate games forever? i disagree.. $$$ will always win, as long as people like you and I are willing to buy these game there is nothing anybody can really do.

also last time i checked the "video games made me do it" defense doesn't work and still gets you sent to jail

also if the columbine event was caused by excessive video game playing why would they have committed suicide. i would say that no game every ended with the main character offing him or herself but i dont know.. but we can all agree that it is not a common theme in video games

so to end this all video games do not = violence, bad parenting does

I really don't think the huge taboo over the killing of children in games is necessary. Especially with some games.

Take Fallout 3 for example. It's rated 18, it can't get much higher. You can't kill children in it, but you CAN hit them with the Mesmetron and ship them over to Paradise Falls, to live a life of slavery and worse. How is that better? Yes, I can understand why they did it, but it's a teeny bit hypocritical isn't it?

It's not that I particularly wanted to kill children. On the contrary. But the choice should be there. It seems a little patronising in a 18 rated game, especially with one like Fallout 3, for the reasons I've already stated.
Child killing would probably get you an AO in the US, which we all know to be the kiss of death so take your pick child killing or having a very hard time even buying the thing if the US doesn't ban it.

If it involved butchering small, unarmed children (in slow motion cinematic style, Fallout 3 ftw :D) then it would most likely be banned in several countries, which would decrease sales.

You could kill kids in the Nintendo 64 game "Body Harvest". They come running out of the school and everything... I remember that clear as day! And, dont quote me on this, but I think the Developer was Rockstars oldschool name.

It is a good point that you can kill kids in deus ex... and that is still M.
Does that Gary Colman like character in Postal 2 count as a kid?
Close enough, you can also use a cheat code to make everyone in the game be Gary Coleman. Then you have to turn the sound off because they all keep screaming "Whatchutalkinbout?" until you silence them with napalm.

Ah, I remember the good ol' days of Fallout and Fallout 2 (y'know, when the series was GOOD) when you could stroll into town, havin' a grand ol' time and just watching the scenery.

Then you pulled out your shotty and blew the fuck out of that little bastard who just stole your stimpak.

Anyone else here gettin the nostalgia?

Meh.

I've never understood the arbitrary child/adult devision.

Nothing I can think of is actually worse when done to a child than it is when done to anyone else, it's just some arbitrary BS.

And I don't really care wether you can kill kids in a game or not. But when you can kill everyone else for no good reason, it seems silly (to me) to have to write extra code just to stop people from doing the same thing to the kids.

GTA 4 not even having any children in it at all probably makes more sense than having 'indestructible' children in a game.

Special treatment... Sigh.
