Heh, not trying to get into the flame war but it mainly comes from what you grow up with. If you grow up with a N64 then you'll probably be a console-gamer. Same with a PC which is what I grew up with. I never got the chance to use a console, so I never got used to them and I still can't use them properly.
Anyway, this doesn't matter much when you're kids, but by the time you're older, the PC Gamers are the normally the ones with jobs because that's the only way to pay for their machines. They *try* and act more mature and probably are because they work. I'm not saying console gamers are dole-bludgers, but less of them work than PC Gamers would. You have to be pretty dedicated if you want to be a proper PC Gamer.

Most console gamers don't care about mod tools. Hell, most PC gamers don't care about them, either.

Keyword here is "probably." I grew up on consoles until around 2000, I own every Nintendo, Sega, and Sony console but the Saturn and Game Gear, from the Atari 2600 onward. Then I discovered the glory of PC gaming thanks to a late break into Starcraft and Half-life, and I've hardly ever looked back. I do own every system from the last two gens except Microsoft's, and a ton of PS2 games, so I'm not completely PC-biased, but in a market where nearly half the "core" games coming out are FPS, there's simply no reason to play on consoles. PCs are better for FPS, period. No debate. I've bought more games for my PSP than my PS3, that's saying a lot. I've even converted a friend of mine who used to be a die-hard Xbox fanatic to PC gaming when I helped him build a PC last year.

Console gamers are just jealous that they aren't as perfect as the master race.

In all seriousness, it's just fanboys. If they don't own that platform, they must flame it.

They're called elitists because a lot of them are. Simple as that.
To live among lions, or to live among sheeple.

And: it's not expensive anymore to make a gaming rig. It's only expensive if you are retarded and buy a $350 card plus upgrade mobo and CPUs every 6 months...

Overclocking and ability to fine tune ALL settings means a gaming computer last 3 yrs. Then you go out in an orgy of overclocking, or buy a new supercheaper gaming rig that can go past all games(except Crysis, lazy programming there).

Newegg is your friend.

HD console owner says, "I like consoles because they do everything I want and they are easy to use."
PC gamer says, "I like PC games because consoles definitely don't do everything I want while PC gaming doesn't cause me many problems and consoles come with their own set of problems."

This is the real "balanced" argument of why some people love PC gaming and it can't help but seem elitist to console only gamers. That's tough titty for them though. They just need to accept it and it is not like you never hear HD console owners looking down on Wii owners.

Elitism mainly. To give an example, /v/ and its 'Glorious PC Master Race' crap.

Also, there's the big deal with piracy, and the compounded annoyance of people who call Console gamers 'casual morons' that are 'ruining the industry', before turning to their computers and going 'OH &"%@! CONTRA 4 JUST GOT DUMPED! CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THIS %"@^, PIRATAN!'

PC is more powerful, but also more complex (to the "unenlightened" we'll say)

Console is less powerful, but also less complex (remember the term Plug and Play?)

i have a xbox 360, a game, a controller, oh and the xbox box... which is fun as a castle... but thats all i need, the box you put the disc in, the disc, and the white thing you use to control it.

a pc gamer on the other hand needs a computer, a mouse, RAM, graphics, a game, minimum space on the hard drive, minimum specohforfucksakeimborednow...

plus irregardless of what people say (anyone who argues with this statement, you're lying) pc gaming is a fuck of alot more expensive than console gaming.

both of those make any pc gamers i know snooty and stuck up when it comes to talking about their gaming experiences.

Those are completely justified terms. The typical consoletard/console kiddie is convinced of the utter superiority of his chosen console, but does not know a damn thing about PCs, or gaming in general. They consistently say stupid things but act like they know everything.
Except of course that the term is used to insult every one that games on a console, you tard*. The term isn't used in a definition of an individual but as the definition of all console gamers and as such it is not justified. I will admit that there are plenty of idiotic people that blast on about their platform of choice and none of these people are restricted to a particular platform. An idiot talking about video games isn't necessarily a console gamer and a console gamer isn't necessarily an idiot.

Merely owning a console doesn't make anyone a consoletard (I own two, and have owned a total of seven). Only a special kind of stupidity will allow you to join the hallowed ranks of the consoletards.
According to some owning those consoles makes you a:

Surely you would think that owning those have no bearing on you're intelligence or you're rank in a social pyramid but it would appear that a vast majority disagree and think you stupid and a member of the working masses. While I agree that owning a console doesn't make one stupid, the attitude of many is that it does. This is why I am against 'console-tard' or something similar because when used it is always used to describe the majority of, if not all, console gamers.

It was specifically MW2's PC version that was problematic, so obviously it was PC gamers who were complaining. In the case of L4D2, PC gamers make up the bulk of Valve's fans, and PC gamers are less willing to take shit from devs/publishers (although in the case of L4D2 the boycott turned out to be bullshit and pretty much evaporated).
There are plenty of games that replaced the option to choose, host and alter a server on a console such as Gears of War II and CoD4. Console gamers didn't get into a fit over this. I wrote a post explaining why this is, which pretty much came down to console gamers used to or even expecting change in their games in regards to how multi player was treated. PC games however have been using the same system for over a decade so when change does rear it's head PC gamers get upset over it because they view the change as a negative thing. Maybe the MW2 change is a negative thing but when it happens on the consoles barely anyone complains, which makes it look like the PC gamers expect a better experience than you get from consoles, making them look elitist. The same goes for the L4D2 boycott which is not explained by the larger community. L4D has a strong XBL community and they would have had just as much reason to boycott, yet didn't.

Interesting that you didn't bring up the ports though.

*Sarcasm, no offense intended.

It's because we're born to pwn baby [/satire]

OT: official reason: because our hardware and games are so much more powerful that they are in denial,

True reason: We think (know) that our hardware is better, especially our mice and keyboards, everybody thinks that we are hardware snobs (which most of us are) because we think (know) that our peripheri are better than the controller, except for the NES and Light guns.

also, not trying to troll (for once) and if it is interpreted that way then I apologise profusely.

Well, generally maintaining a PC to play modern games can be expensive, which is why a pc gamer can come off as an elitist.
A typical $1500au rig (or, if you're from elsewhere ~$700AU, hooray for the "fuck you" tax) will outlast 2 generations of consoles (my fathers current rig has been around since before the release of xbox 1 and it's still playing everything, albiet on moderate settings). Compared to a $900 (on release) PS3 and a $500 (on release) ps2, it's not particularly expensive at ~$100 more. No doubt it will still be running through the next generation as well with a few minor updates. I'd love bring up xbox costs but they are rather hard to estimate since you get half a console and have to buy the rest in rather expensive increments. Assuming an xbox 360+wireless+hdmi+xbox live costs I've no doubt it would be the most expensive single generation console to run, and yes, if you stuck to nintendo consoles it would be cheaper, but how many of you actually have done that? It is never as simple as saying "consoles are awlays cheaper than PCs" or vice versa, and if you do I garuntee you have no fucking clue.

The cold, mechanical keyboard is no match for the soft, loving embrace of a controller. Just grabbing those two potruding, curved handles, pressing it close to my abdomen, and giddily losing all control button-mashing my way to victory until I'm laying there, exhausted but proud of my handiwork, reflecting on the deed that has been done...

...there is no other comparable satisfaction.

because of console fanboyism. they attack the PC because they either

A. envy the PC. (modding, etc)
B. think their way is the best way. ( IE good old tribal hostility to other tribes who dont think like them.)
C.trolls (they anger ppl for fun)
D. misinformed about the PC gamers and believe what those idiots at x-play/etc tell them to believe.
E. mistake the PC for a console with shiny bells and whistles. (its NOT a console, its a computer. PCs and consoles are not the same. they CANNOT RUN ON THE SAME SYSTEM of multiplayer, control, etc. stop expecting the PC to conform to your ways thinking it will be a good transition because it wont and it will end badly.)

I have no idea if your joking or not, but this is the reason people hate on the PC people, they are arrogant and think they are a god send.

I don't understand why all the hate is about, a gaming console is a gaming console, it's all about what people can afford, what they prefer and what is easy for them which is where the general stereotypes come from.
