Eh because they are very much stuck in their ways, its not a very open community(at least the gaming part) the tech part is pretty laidback usually.
Not a very open community? Have you ever used Steam?
As far as welcoming to newcomers, most other hobbies i've become involved with, guns cars and bikes, are much more accessible. But this only applies to gaming(perhaps cause of the youth), the tech side is pretty open though.

because PC gamers hate console gamers, its just a big circle of hate. But we don't hate ALL console gamers just the ones that say that PC's make games not look good which is completely retarded.(Yes I have had this said to me by a Halo fan boy)

Hypocrisy. People here call out other communities for their console wars yet they do the exact same thing here towards the PC.

Im so tired of these threads. They always lead to flame wars which is something the escapist is against. I have a PS3 and I fucking love it for its free simple online and great exclusives and I'm trying to save money to get a PC that I can play most FPSes on because bioshock 2 and Bad Compnay 2 on my PS3 (drool)

Anyway I recognize the attributes of each, consoles being simple and pick up and play non-frustrating fun while PC being more about performance and customization. Their both great and it falls on your personal preference.

I'll chalk it to the Wizard's First Rule...
Which for those who dont know:

"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People?s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

And so I say...

THIS^^
Hehehe, good quote... I figured those who would know needed no more than I already said, anyone else can fuck off :D

It is just that some pc gamers act like all consoles games are garbage."mario, metal gear solid, gears of war all suck because they are console games. All hail pc games!" I hear that and i say games are entertainment, having fun,and not about tech specs. I personally like games from all formats such as dragon age, infamous, house of the dead overkill, and lost odyessy.

Console fanboys/somethings get a hard on when they see PC gamers, due to our unique sexiness but they try to hide it by hating us.

Yup yup.

In all seriousness, they don't like us because we feel entittled to things they don't have. That and we look down on them from which is perceived as "Elitism".

Not my fault I hate dislike all of you whiney Live people XD
I play on both the PC and consoles, I'm breaking down barriers dammit! Does this mean I get to be an ambassador?
no. no it doesnt. Well, in all likelihood, someone will say "OH MAH G0D! YOU PLAY BOTH?!?!! NOOB!" or something to that effect, or saying that you need to pick one and dedicate more time to it. which i'm sure you do.
It makes you a hybrid, not an ambassador.

I have a similar issue; I have windows installed on my Macbook Pro (and i use it for games etc.) but instead of it "being the best of both worlds" and putting me in with PC 'clanboys' and Mac douches, I am instead cast out by both sides... for even trying to distill the purity of each mal-aligned position.
Then let me be the first to say, "I love you, duder". Such hybrid gaming is always the best way. For example, I usually play RTSes on my laptop, so when I'm after Rise of Nations I'll use the Mac bit, but then I can swap over for AoE II and Rise of Legends. It really is the best of both worlds, and anyone who refuses to switch just because they feel it'd be selling out is a twit.

I also use a Wii, and anyone who doesn't like that can kiss my shiny metal ass. Wii gamers have a hell of a lot of stick from everybody, console and PC gamers alike, saying that we're basically retarded housewives with no idea what gaming is. I LIKE my Wii, and I like the games I have (mostly Guitar Hero (3, WT, SH, M, A, 5), Tales of Symphonia (1&2) and Fire Emblem (1&2 9&10), with some other stuff too, like Battalion Wars. Goddamn, is that game fun).
Hahaha I actually have a Wii too.... I hate it, but I still have one... it's like sometimes when I come back from the pub drunk I slap the Wii around... good times =)

They're called elitists because a lot of them are. Simple as that.
By that logic, consoletards get called consoletards because a lot of them are.
Yeah I agree. If a lot of people in a group are one way, there's a chance the stereotype wll be that way, thats what a stereotype is after all.

I LIKE the PC gamers that are elitist jaded assholes. It makes it so companies can't dick around the consumer without receiving an incredible amount of flak for it.

As for PC vs. Consoles, I fail to see how the PC is not better than a console. This does not mean I think PC GAMERS are better than console GAMERS, that's just stupid. But I feel the PC as a platform is superior:
-A top tier gaming PC will look way better than any console now-a-days. (No upscaled HD, 60fps always, AA and AF, etc.)

-Multiplayer (except for MMOs) is free, unlike the Xbox.

-Battle.Net 11 years ago I feel was better than Xbox Live is today.

-Dedicated servers allow for lower pings, and one person doesn't gain the host advantage and get to be the guy with 0 ping.

-FPS online multiplayer has had 64 players standard since Battlefield 1942 released in 2002 and some UT 99 servers ran 64 players but it was kind of chaotic.

-I prefer keyboard and mouse (104 buttons + mouse compared to the limits of a controller). However, even if you hate the keyboard you can always just plug any controller (including a 360 controller) into the PC and play with that.

-Consoles have few games that aren't on the PC. The PC on the other hand has the entire indie game scene, a reign over the RTS, point and click adventures (not that there is that many) and point and click action RPGs (like diablo).

-I'm not forced to use a companies system. I feel the voice chat in GFWL is awful, so I can just run a vent server and communicate with that.

-If you don't have a microphone writing text is undeniably faster on the PC with the keyboard.

-This is a minor gripe, but I've seen some people complain that certain games on the 360 and PS3 do not allow use of it's built in music player. On the PC that is never an issue, I can just mute the music in game and play MP3's in the background.

-Active Modding communities are a lot of fun for geeks like me.

-The ONLY downside of a PC is that it's very costly (comparatively) to build and maintain. But using this against the PC is like saying a 7 series BMW is a worse car than a Ford Focus because you can't afford one.

most hard core P.C gamers build there own p.c.
they putten love into there machine so it can run crysis

Split screen games like rockband, COD and tekken are great for console to play with friends.
online gaming is, and always have been best on the P.C in my opinion

(PS i am a vanilla socom I $ & II player, i have yet to see a console game beat that online game play expiration on a console)

But the PC is better at what it dose and that includes gaming but the PC has plenty of pitfalls the 360/PS3/(insert inferior proprietary hardware of choice here) has its own pitfalls but manages to 2 things well enough ease of use for 1 or 2 things(gaming, disc video watching) and game choices, the PC sadly dose not have the game software choices but makes up for it in everything else if you are skilled enough to be able to build a PC once every 2-5 years for 500 or less.

In the end IMO the PC is superior like a bookworm hyper intelligent non ghoulish super model but has alot more upkeep and baggage while consoles are simple attractive enough and easier to..er...play with..... ..... LOL
As much as I'm a PC gamer, I'm going to have to disagree. Having seperate devices for seperate functions is not bad; it makes the 360 reliable and cognitive. On a development standpoint, designing for the potentially infinite combination of hardware people will have is sometimes just monumentally difficult. Also, $500 is kind of a lot compared to the X-box's $200. Yes, you can just upgrade internal components, but that doesn't sit well with everyone who's not hardware-inclined.

You kinda shot yourself in the foot at the end. Putting WORK into something to play games with doesn't make sense when you think about it. A lot of people just want to relax and don't have much time to spend tuning their PC.

That said, that only means there's a large audience PCs just don't fit with. I'm a PC-exclusive gamer, and proud of it.

I just want everyone to get along! I do both but prefer PC gaming but that does not make me a elitist ! Just because I say something that could be insulting to consoles E.G RTS are better
on PCs (Which they are!) I Think that they should give the PC gamers what we always had (Modding,Dedcated severs) and the consols what they have .

Its the same amount of work to up keep your car and keep maintenance prices down by being able to replace the battery, alternator, belts, wires, sparkplugs, oil, ect, ect yourself some people are able to handle it without it being work and some not so much.

But ya while one can handle it and it be superior in most things...having something easier to mess with with more software options makes consoles better for most people and if they ever got over themselves and added more control options I'd be a happy modern console player myself...

I wouldn't say greedy or elitist, but I do have a PC gamer best friend who rips on me for being a console gamer because I rely on a controller and limited technology to process my games.

I fail to see how the 360 is in anyway reliable, and cognitive is not an adjective.

PC's are generally more powerful and can allow change to how games are played. They are generally more expensive, if you do not include the moniter(Including the moniter would mean including the TV when buying a console). PC gamers expect a level of quality when purchasing games. Features that have previously been taken for granted, such as dedicated servers, are unavailable on consoles for a myriad of reasons.

Consoles are a simpler and far more casual way of gaming. The beauty of the system is the everything just works.

As for why PC gamers get so much hate, it is probably a mix of jealousy and disdain for elitism.

What annoys me the most about the "dedicated server" issue and the insueing rage, is the reaction of console gamers. Many times I found the same response which generally can be summed up as "HA! Now your on our level". This attitude was selfing and outright stupid, as rather than mocking others for being brought down to inferior technology, they should have been trying to get themselves on the higher level of technology.
