Just out of curiosity, what are these 'many plot holes'? Just thinking about Mass Effect, the only one I'm seeing that it would have just been easier to blow up the Omega 4 relay, and that the council is far too retarded.

As many people have said, Bioware makes games with interesting stories, solid gameplay, as well as usually having excellent writing and good characters. The game that got me hooked on Bioware games was Neverwinter Nights, and their games only got better from there.

To be honest, most of the stories they come up with are kind of meh, but Dragon Age: Origins reminded me a lot of playing DnD with my friends except without the annoyance of finding a time where everyone can actually meet. Not to mention I enjoyed the banter between party members. I thought mass effect was a waste of my time as the story was meh, I hated most, if not all, of the characters, and it only allows you to roleplay within a super tiny box that they lay out for you.

The real reason I like Bioware is for BG II and KotOR.

Edit: Totally forgot about Neverwinter Nights somehow! 0-0

Bioware games, while almost always above average, are really overrated. The gameplay is generally decent without many huge missteps, though can often feel stilted. The writing is hit or miss, sometimes it's great and other times it's clear they're trying way too hard. I've always thought the stories and characters were average, often bordering on bland, but probably better than most other games.

I've played and enjoyed most of their games, though they aren't the king developer many make them out to be. And while their writing may be above average for a video game, compared to other storytelling mediums it's still pretty poor.

I don't like them anymore. They make more or less interactive movies currently. Last great game produced by them was Throne of Baal, and that was an expansion.

i think they have bad locations that don't feel as epic as they're trying to be made out, an impenetrable story with many, many plot holes, bad writing where alot of the background is in the pause menu rather than weaved into the story, akward conversation options and bland, boring gameplay.
Everything you say here is pretty much just your skewed opinion.

All of these things (excluding boring gameplay), are things that Bioware does perfectly.

Also, Baldur's Gate. All arguments against that statement are automatically invalid.
Except maybe this one: Black isle.
Co-publisher != developer. Fail.
I stand corrected, baldurs gate is indeed a bioware game.

Whats more I love baldurs gate... its just a shame they haven't made anything even remotely as good since kotor.
Now thats a little more accurate. People have not seen the better games, so they love the highest quality they have personally experienced. For me Dragon Age was enjoyable but it was worst then previous titles while DA2 was even worse. Theres a line some people can go depending on their past experiences.

I know this isn't the same for everyone but I always become emotionally involved in BioWare games simply because the story and characters are so great. The games are also fun and I think BioWare are one of the only companies that actually listen to what the fans, their consumers, have to say. That's a very attractive trait to fans.

It's all about the characters. They're well written with deep backstories.

Bioware isn't perfect, they don't have the best gameplay or the most eye-gorging graphics, but they did hit the nail on story, emotion and immersion. Something that is very rare to find in other games now'a days.

Pick your poison.

1) They consist of half of the current big WRPG developers (as in the only one other than Bethesda)
2) Their games are story-driven and include likeable characters
3) People remember their old games (KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, NWN, and Jade Empire) and start nerdgasming all over the place.

so, i've been trying to figure htis out for a while about why people think the mass effect trilogy and dragon age 1 were such great games. whennever i think about them i think they have bad locations that don't feel as epic as they're trying to be made out, an impenetrable story with many, many plot holes, bad writing where alot of the background is in the pause menu rather than weaved into the story, akward conversation options and bland, boring gameplay.
This doesnt really sound anything like a Bioware game. I am not a big Bioware guy, but writting, epicness feelings, conversations, gameplay, writting and story is what bioware games are most known for. It is alright if you don't like Bioware, but I think much of what your saying is biast.

Its like saying Crysis 2 looks ugly. I may not like the game, but the game looks amazing, and it has very good and intense gameplay
Well, there have been a lot of plotholes. Example: In the Dwarf commoner beginning storyline, a Dwarf rogue who is level 1 beats up canonically great warriors in a straight fight. It was immersion breaking.

see, i'm seeing alot of people claim interesting stories, but the mass effect games have rather flawed stories, since the entire of mass effect 2 is just being rail roaded, where you work with cerberus because you can't work with the alliance, you can't work with the alliance because you're working with cerberus. and is filled with plot holes, the first is about 10 minutes into the game where a terrorist organization manages to make a better ship than the entire allience could.

and hta characters aren't really that great, overlooking the fact that two of them (miranda and hte justicar) are shamelessly there for sex appeal, alot of them don't actually come in use in the big mission. why did you need 2 biotics experts if you only need one? why not bring more weapon experts?
You miss the point. If you own a console no one else is making this sort of game. I make my charecter, shape his/her choices, conversations and abilities. I gather my team with a mix of personalities, abilities and personal abilites. I make choices that affect the game world (and the game world of games made years later). In ME this is mixed with playable shooting and DA:O (havent played 2 yet) gives me tactical strategy.

What other choices do I have for this sort of game? Bethesda? There games tend to be deeply broken upon release and have no where near the polish or structure. Some people love these games and they sell well. However they are not for me. I put a lot of hours into Morrow wind but never beat it. I played FO but stopped through lack of interest.

For high adventure with lots of choices, story and customisation there is no one else competing.
