Bioware's quite capable of bringing the plot holes.
TIM: Hello, Shepard
S: Hello, Bond villain voiced by Martin Sheen.
TIM: Do you want to work for my hilariously evil terrorist organization despite the fact you have no reason to do so?
S: You are probably going to stab me in the back the first chance you get. But I'll work for you, because the writers decided to avoid branching plotlines in this game. (+2 Paragon.)
I thought of it more like this.
TIM: Hello, Shepard.
S: Hello, Mr President!
The Illusive Man is voiced by President Bartlet. How can he
not be trustworthy?
Besides, the Alliance were useless in the first game. I imagine Shepard would be glad to work with someone,
anyone, who already believed that the Reapers were still a threat.
OT: Can't stand Dragon Age but really like the Mass Effect Series. They're well written and very polished, often funny, and shamelessly crowd pleasing. Really, Shepard's entire character 'arc' might as well be summarised as "Shepard does awesome stuff then gets some alien loving then does more awesome stuff." It's a weirdly naive approach to character development but it works because it's fun. Let the rest of the cast do the drama and the deep dark secrets stuff - Shepard is half Kirk, half Picard and all Flash Gordon.
And as someone said earlier in the thread, Bioware actually can write
likeable characters, unlike in say Fallout 3, where everyone I met without exception was a stiff backed, dead eyed dickhead that I just wanted to murder to shut them up.
