(psst that would be the name of the monkey for those who didn't know/remember)

Community had me sold in the first minute of the pilot (Dean Pelton's speech seen in this clip here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfjYaivKGJ8 )

BBT relies too heavily on individual jokes. You can watch a clip and find it funny on it's own but unlike other comedies it's rarely funnier in the context of the actual scene it's in. It's just a bunch of "people will be laughing about this scene tomorrow" moments strung together with little structure tying it all together. However to be fair to BBT a lot of comedies seem to make this mistake and yet remain wildly popular... I just figure if I'm going to watch a bunch of jokes loosely strung together I'm going to watch a stand-up routine.

Honestly I think doing this with a sitcom is a flawed argument because they are written to flow with a laugh track, so of course removing a laugh track will make it less funny. Even Titus wouldn't be as funny without the laugh track. If you like that show, that is :X
A lot of shows have laugh tracks, it's forgivable. The point here is, without the laugh track, I can hardly even tell what parts are supposed to be jokes. The things that would slip casually into the flow of other shows are being put up on a pedestal here and having a spotlight shone on them. It's just embarrassing.

In terms of the whole nerd thing... It's just that there is so much more funny nerd-related humour out there instead of this dirge.
The big message here is this -
Humour is better when it's funny things nerds see in life, rather than funny things other people see in nerds.

The "nerd" stereotypes, (Neurotic, dweeby, creep and.. foreign?) are the butt of every joke as opposed to finding themselves in humourous situations as in something like, say, the IT Crowd.

To me, the whole show is just Chuck Lorre and everyone on his payroll going "Hey! Look! These guys are losers! Look at how the losers like to spend their time! Am I right? Am I right?"

It's just crap to think that this is what people think "Nerd" culture is like.
"Oh, those hilarious guys who say things in a complicated manner! How hilarious! Oh, now they are playing Halo! Oh golly, now the short one can't get a girl! Tee hee! Hey look, now the girl likes the nerdy things! You nerdy nerds must be loving this!"

You can tell the writers don't know shit about any nerd culture. Not that they have to appeal to exactly what I like, but anything to give a sign that someone didn't think of the first ten things associated with nerds and make an episode about each one.
You know how all nerds are fucking nuclear scientists or NASA employees, right? Oh, and don't forget about how those two things are randomly interchangeable.

God.

On top of everything, the show isn't funny. Occasionally it has it's good moments - When the characters are being funny instead of just being paper thin stereotypes. But nine times out of ten, it bombs. It's just lame.

So there you have it. That's why I hate it.

I think cracked.com said it best:
"[The] Big Bang Theory is just every other sitcom in nerd-drag, meaning the punchlines are "Sector 2814!" It seduces a lot of geeks by acknowledging but openly loathing them, just like their high school crush."

It's too much nerd culture as joke fodder, and the autistic equivalent of a dyslectic character constantly misspelling his dialogue
This.

There's just nothing interesting about it.

If nerds actually existed, then those guys might appreciate nerd stereotypes.

The reason I find Big Bang to be terrible isn't because of some "Oh, you just hate it because you're a nerd and it hits too close to home!" thing, but simply because whenever I watch an episode I find almost nothing funny in any of it. Also, the characters are an unlikable bunch of utter tits...

I saw a few random episodes of Big Bang Theory a couple of years ago and hated it. It seemed stupid, the characters were irritating and it was trying a bit too hard to appeal to the nerdy audience.

I recently gave it another try watching from the beginning and enjoyed it a lot more - I found the characters more relatable as I followed their growth across four years.

Maybe I changed, maybe it's just easier to follow a show from the start. Anyway, I changed my opinion on it. I can understand why people might still not like it, though I think it became more interesting to watch when less of it revolved around Leonard. I'm enjoying it even more now that they've gotten the Leonard/Penny relationship out of the way (even though there is the potential for it to come back in spite of the way season 4 ended).

Has season 5 started yet? I'm in Australia and we're always a season or two behind on TV series.

I do quite like Big Bang Theory but one thing that does irritate me is the laugh track. Also, some of the "Haha, they're nerds, look at them" jokes are rather annoying, but I find the show quite good overall.

The laugh track pisses me off, personally. Not everything Sheldon says is cause for laughter; there are a lot of times where he's just... talking. I mean, there's a video posted up there somewhere (didn't feel like quoting, as I am quite lazy and already typing) where they take out the laugh track. Sheldon's mom mailed him his N64, so he said it's time to bust out some Red Bull and rock Mario Kart. The audience laughs. I don't know why.

Some people don't find it funny because of the specific types of humour involved. It's not even nerd humour; there is a lot of sarcasm (when you're dealing with Penny, mostly), and a lot of what Sheldon says has a tendency to go over peoples' heads.

I like it because I think it's hilarious and I adore Sheldon.

mainly in the laters seasons how the focus shifted from the science to near every episode having a girl arc or tons of relationship BS. Really no one gives a crap about Penny or Raj's sister or at least i don't. Girlfriend characters should be minor plot driving devices or else the whole show becomes another sexual tension joke.

Hey, good to finally see another Community fan here.

Like I said before, that's really my only beef with the Big Bang Theory. I've seen a few episodes and it follows that tired old standard sitcom formula. But it gets good ratings. Meanwhile, Community airs episodes that manage to be concept-heavy (but still silly) and hilarious. It can also surprise you with an emotional punch at times too (Troy's 21st birthday episode comes to mind). But it has barely made it so far in terms of ratings. A bunch of NBC shows are like that, though (Parks and Rec and Chuck especially).

And since Community and The Big Bang Theory are in the same Thursday night time slot, The Big Bang Theory is the bad guy. It must die.

Edit: And why is the laugh track still around???? Seriously, it is a cringe-inducing relic of the past.
