So you need confidence so badly you have to belittle others with what can be misconstrued as constructive criticism? *rolls eyes*
Yes... I am ashamed. Now I have to go find a post where someone ended a sentence with a preposition and mock them.

Capitalizing every letter of a word is barbaric and "WRONG" is not a sentence. You hypocritical churl!

My apologies, I am rarely so on the ball as I am today. *bow*

Here's an odd question/rebuttal to your post; English is an amalgam of many languages that was shaped over time to become what we know as English today, but it's a living language and thus able to change and evolve over time. It's because it is a living language with multiple offshoots and slangs or dialects that there is no improper way to communicate with it because of its multiple heritages and continuing evolution. What I am trying to say is that so many use it and no matter the...er....dialect of it(English), we all pretty much know what is being said.

Now I will give you in academia admit that there are more proper ways to do it.... but like so much in academia, it is too annoying for the layman to stick to such pompous if not snobbish bloviation......

I guess it's better than trying to be witty trying to respond to everything in a attempt to get attention.....

I correct people using as low a level of pretentiousness as is possible in the hopes that they will learn. The reason why I do so is because I want to see the intelligence and maturity as well as the grammatical capabilities of the general public to increase as opposed to getting even worse then it is now.

And even as I explain this, I know I have made plenty of grammatical mistakes...damn posting at 1 AM.

If I'm quoting someone I'll add apostrophes where it is necessary and correct some bad grammar but I won't say "fix'd", I'll just carry on with my response.

If you've been on this site for more than five seconds[Exaggeration] you may have noticed people correct each other's spelling and grammar whenever they see fit.

I'm not one to do it myself, but apparently everyone else on here is. Now, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's a good thing in-act [Space Here], as long as your not a dick about it, though I'm sure that rule applies to most things.[Consider Revising Punctuation]

The question I ask is this: Why do people correct others? It's not like they have to, they're doing it voluntarily, so there must be a reason behind it.

[Note: Yes, search bar Nazi's[Capital N]. I did search, but the threads I found seemed to outline the fact that it was a bad thing. They didn't specifically ask why people do it.]
That about covers it!

There, I fixed your grammar.
Though there wasn't much to fix...

Did you know, they never taught grammar in all my years of school?
It's ridiculous.
I picked up most of what I know on the internet, hence my occasional lack of knowledge on the subject.
I try, though..
*sob* I try.
The education system is heavily flawed. I learned what I could by listening to others, as well as occasional references to Webster.

Man, fuck our english classes.

If you tell a child something that isn't true "That grass is blue", you're likely to get an exasperated "nooooo, it's green". I think it's stressful to be told something that isn't true and I think the same thing goes for being told something that isn't correct. The message may be truthful, but the message was not passed correctly.

Honestly, I don't correct people unles they start being dicks, whereupon I will point out every flaw I can find.
You spelled unless wrong.
In the words of the internet: NO U
Nice try, though.
Maybe one day...
Maybe one day.
Only one 's' in yours, you stupid, stupid twat.

I like it when people correct spelling and grammar in something small and twatty. The fact they feel the need to nitpick something rather than come up with a retort to the thread at hand generally makes me feel all nice and superior, 'cos I know they've lost.

I'm guessing you left those in there for some asshole like me to find. That, or somebody up there loves me to bits.

In any case, why not correct others on the Internet? Technically, you're helping them out, nobody can criticize you for it (unless you're being obviously dickish), and you get that sense of self-gratification that comes from being superior to somebody. Or at least, you get that feeling after you correct somebody's grievous massacre of the English tongue.
Yes. I did leave a few in there for people to correct.

I wasn't aware we still spell Nazi with a capital N though.

It's called OCD.

The other day I couldn't watch a guy do a blind run of Silent Hill because wasn't doing it perfectly. Same thing with spelling. Bad grammar and spelling almost physically hurt me.

Putting that aside, bad grammar doesn't belong here. Is it really hard to capitalise your 'i's and say 'you're' instead of 'your'?
