I've trolled a couple times before (well outside of the Escapist, don't cut me please), been trolled, altogether it's all just for fun. Obviously it pisses off a lot of people though...

Trolls exist simply to get attention. They don't care what kind, just attention. Trolls especially love it when you get really angry, because they have accomplised their two goals
1. Attract attention
2. Make someone angry, thereore giving them more attention.

Usually this cycle repeats until the troll is banned or satisfied.

I once recall seeing someone post something along the lines of (On Youtube)
"I don't understand the point of these videos." And some stuff like that. The owner replied

I checked back a day later, almost every single comment for the next 3 pages were trolling this guy.

I think some trolls are people that just post something stupid, but then they go with it. Like "yea I meant to say something that stupid, I'm jus trollin u gaiz lulz!" Now no one knows that I really just asked a stupid question!

This right here sums it up. They'll keep doing it as long as they can get a rise out of you. If you ignore them or don't respond, they'll start getting pissed off and find someone else to annoy the shit out of. When this occurs just use the mute and ignore option on your email, instant msg, and online chat options. Responding to them just keeps them going.

People Troll because it's really [i/]really[/i] fun. I always love it when there is a successful one here. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does it just makes my day.

Viruses are a little more malicious though. Some people write Viruses for the same reason they'll randomly destroy someone's property.


There's also a large portion of viruses that exist for the sole purpose of stealing your identity too, which means they're in it for the money, not pissing people off.

Yes,yes,yes I know but I'm not referring to THOSE viruses, i'm talking about the viruses that are made just for the sake of doing damage to random people's computer.

And people are more likely to sit back in the safety of their house and write a virus (provided, they have the skill) than go out and bust your car up as the virus is usually "for the lulz" and they would rather not sacrifice their safety, it's like leaving a flaming bag of crap in front of someone's front door, then running away.

except that the "for the lulz" viruses that exist, in terms of damage are much more like busting up a car, then a harmless prank.

Indeed it is. I admit to trolling as well, but out of good heart amongst my friends. So I'm not much of a piss people off for the hell of it more than I am a counter troll XP
