He's a game critic, one with a very solid philosophy on what constitutes a good game isn't afraid to declare his statements. In hindsight, when have you ever heard him give a single opinion in a video review?

The internet loves trolls and hates,
hence, Yathzee.

Don't get me wrong, he's still kind of funny from time to time, like once every month, but he shouldn't be as popular. Especially not now where his reviews are cringe-inducing.

This is what I think.

He says it like it is. He does it fast and effieciently and its funny stuff. I am entertained, but I also respect that he isn't sucking up to developers, he is stating what he believes are the reasons to not purchase a game (to his highest standards). Every game has its flaws...some games more than others, and some are not worth my money...save for a rental. That ladies and gent's is what I believe we need, and hopefully if the the market dictates that high stanadards are the only way a big developer can turn a profit than perhaps they will stay lean and fight for your business.

TC, I think you answered your own question with your first sentence. You can laugh your ass off, I can laugh my ass off, everyone can laugh their ass off (except that one guy with the avatar of Willy Wonka). He makes us laugh and that's reason enough for me anyway.

From all his reviews the only one I saw when he did not shit all over a game was Arkham Asylum.
You should go watch the Orange Box and Saints Row 2 videos, to think of two off the top of my head. Not a single turd landed on Portal and by his own admission the Saints Row 2 video was just about a marriage proposal.

I love Yahtzee because he is so cynical and even though he insults the games I love, most of his criticism is exactly what I would say.
Its funny to hear him rage about chest high walls, godly AI accuracy from across the map with a pistol, health regeneration, and "how do I even do this part?!" because all of it is true.

Until he says something that is wrong, or I disagree with, I'll continue to play my games, even as he bashes them.
Also, his wordplay is really amusing.

Ex: Alien vs. Predator review = Alias vs. Editor.

I like Yahtzee because of the feeling of shaking dice in a cup. A truly unique experience.

Branston Pickle. nuff said. As to his review/critique style, I find the ball of anger, bitterness and bile with which he treats the rest of the world comforting and funny, mstly because thats how I see the world most days. See also Dr. Perry Cox (Scrubs)

I like him because he criticizes games that people often like, which most reviewers refuse to do.

Because he's Gordom Freeman with a hat; and besides he's really funny, he's a critic sure, but his reviews usually contain more "review-like items" than any other review out there... Even if he tends to rape everything he doesn't like (including some favorites of mine)

Well for one, he's funny. Humor alone can make you appreciate someone's weekly 5 minute show.
But why we really LIKE him? Because he's a consistent asshole. He points out things we often ignore or gloss over in games. His persona reminds me of the Jester archetype from Shakespeare: he's a wise fool. It's fun to laugh with him, but I find his two cents on society outside and in gaming worthwhile. For an example, I thought it was poignant when he mentioned that we are a culture so steeped in escapism that it's totally normal to mention "standard fantasy setting." That's what I take away from his reviews. And the excessively long metaphors.

While he technically is a reviewer, I think a better word would be Ranter. He has the balls to say stuff about our favourite games that we can't bring ourselves to, and does it in a rather comical manner.

I enjoy ZP & EP when it its surprising and thought provoking; which for the most part it is. But whenever it gets closer to a game review instead of a critique it really isn't much better than anything else on the web. He certainly does raise the bar though: the Wolfenstein review made me snigger like the slightly self-loathing Irishman I am.

The man's charismatic too, which certainly helps when so many vocal video game players are just drooling basement dwelling miscreants, attention seekers with hard-ons* for the latest releases and universal contempt for anything that doesn't fit in with there teeny tiny precious special worldview.

You filthy rancid breathed scum.

*Ever notice women and girls do not to come across as complete gobshites when discussing casual gaming the way a the league of mortifying embarassing Halo fanboys who accuse the unprepared gamer of recreational sodomy do? The fairer sex indeed!

I think I love the fact that he is such an asshole and he doesn't give a fucking crap.
Why do you love (or hate) Yahtzee?
Calling him an asshole is a bit harsh. I'd say he's a man of with convictions and the backbone to stand by what he says. So he's admirable to say the least, unlike most other critics or reviewers who just suck the game companies of to get money.

The accent, the unbridled criticism, the well-chosen references and the fact that he's never hated a game I liked. In fact, all the games he's ever mentioned that I like have been ones he holds up as examples of good ones.
