You can debate for as long as time itself specially in the Internet but if there isn't an impartial third party, there really is no point of continuing. Sometimes you just got to turn around and step away or risk getting baned.

OH and haven't you seen the SNL Weekend Update skit about the "Internet girl". Girls are already less likely to succeed due to their skills in math and science why is a 20 year old woman reviewing a movie shouldn't she have a blog about cooking.
I suck at math, so I wonder where SNL got their data from...and never listen to a 20 year old woman, she was probably drunk off her ass at the time.

I give this topic a profound sigh. Here's how it is, I'm going into grade ten this year(next month), meaning last year I was in grade nine(this is going somewhere I swear). In my previous year's english class, we often had debates...or rather our teacher tried to start debates between us. It usually ended with me or one of my friends saying something that either nobody understood or had no idea how to respond to. It was a boring semester I tell you.

This sort of thing happens to me all the time. And I really mean all the time.
I'm a senior and trust, me it's going to be like this for a while, just be glad that you don't have teacher that every time you win a debate, you get called a retard for it...I hated my sophomore english teacher...stupid *****.
The SNL skit was based of the Perez Hilton brand of websites or the like; it would be like debating with someone with knowledge of how attractive or gross celebrities are. Or like in MY high school trying to debate with my black peers on reasons why we should read a book for school. I do not know how the FUCK I got on a team at all.

No, no I did not. Which is sad, because now I realize there are two versions of that ***** out there, not just one.
Damn, well, the ***** at my school had to quit because she got pregnant and the school refused to have a pregnant, unmarried woman teaching kids...I find that hilarious...go school!

But seriously, she gave me a D+ on a paper I wrote about how gaming doesn't lead to violence. I showed the paper to another teacher that I liked and she said she would have given me an A on it...more proof that the ***** was just out to get me.
Maybe they're clones of each other! I wrote a huge-ass paper on free speech (several smaller topics, but most were along the lines of "is symbolic speech still speech?" (yes) and "Is an amendment banning flag-burning okay?" (no)),and she actually commented on it while I was typing it, saying it was good, told me to correct one or two things...

And then, when I turned it in, gave me a C-. The coup de gras? Two of the things she corrected me on, she marked "wrong", and claimed I misinterpreted what she said when I called her on it. Despite the fact that she physically erased and retyped the parts-in-question.

#1 when i admit i'm wrong(which i have.) and ask nicley for you people to stop(which i have.), then you should not post stuff saying how much of a mistake i've made, and so the attacking bit.
#2i've admitted i was wrong. shut up about it.
#3 no i won't. it's my way of writing, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
You did not admit you were wrong. You claimed you admitted you were wrong. You didn't ask nicely (though you may have asked "nicley", I'm not sure what that word means), you demanded. And claiming that it's your way of writing does not make it acceptable unless it's a quality of it other than "wrong". If I punched you in the cock instead of shaking your hand, claiming that it's "just my way of greeting people" does not in any way justify the fact that I just punched you in the cock.

And that's what you're doing, by the way. Punching the English language in the cock.

so your saying i should just conform and not write how i feel comfortable, not caring about spelling or grammer to the point were i look over ever post i write several times before posting.
i didn't demand, i just keep insisting it in the hope you people will realize maybe i regret attacking someone, but no. you all probably think i'm the god damn worst thing here because i made a mistake. and before you just repeat your cock thing again, yes, it does justify me saying this post, but not most of the things i've said before.i realize this. now let me leave in peace. stop fucking quoting me, cus then you just start mocking me. i don't care what you do when i'm off this thread, just quit talking to me, and i will leave you alone.ok?
I'm thinking of a number. Can you guess it? I'll give you a hint: It's the number of times I've proofread every post I've made on the escapist that didn't utilize header tags.

I'll give you a second, it's coming:

Zero

And if I suspected you could think while reading, I'd submit to the good people you just thought something to the extent of "Well, then you couldn't type fast".

I type 70 WPM, average. Note that the word "average" means that, 50% of the time, I'm typing faster than that.

My sister (no offense meant to her), isn't the brightest person on the planet. She types horrendously if she doesn't check her spelling. Yet she does, and even if you include all the times she backspaces, she manages a... Get this... 120 WPM.

And yes, you should conform. Just like I should "conform" to the laws preventing me from setting up a proxy server to ping your IP address through an innocent link, thereby knowing your real world location. As I should "conform" to the laws preventing me from then hunting you down and killing you. Thus should you conform to the laws of the motherfucking English language.

And regretting something doesn't make it go away. I'm certain that when a kid broke my finger in a fight when I was in third grade, he was "sorry" while he wasn't allowed to do jack shit by his parents for the next few days. Or like any jealous boyfriend who killed a cheating girlfriend regrets killing her. Or like I regret ever bothering to reply to you.

Done is done. The kid isn't getting his toys back, the boyfriend is in jail, and my chili that I made is cold because I wasted my time on you.

Zero. Though that does mean a bet of 20 Euros would net you a solid E20x10^Infinity Euros, which is a relatively high amount. I wouldn't consider it a good idea though.

Damn, that's just cold...I honestly think that she just marked me down cause it was topic that she had no real knowledge on, and it was also our term paper, which is 25% of our semester grade for english...I still managed to pass...and I rubbed that in her face. I'm glad our final is 40% of our grade, otherwise I would have been...royally fucked
Why the slashthrough on "Royally Fucked"?

I'm in the same boat. After the paper, I was down to a C (from a B), but the exam managed to pull me up to a B-. Though a "C" doesn't sound that bad, bare (shit, is it "bare" or "bear" in this case?) in mind, I plan on going into a career in English (E.G.: Teaching/Writing), and applied for an A.P. class Junior year. If I didn't have a B as a minimum, I wasn't going to get in. Period.
I put a slash through it cause lets just say as a mod on a different forum, I'm kinda paranoid...and damn...you got lucky-ish...did you get into the class...cause I know if you get a high B-, they often overlook it...I got past the paper requirement for A.P. US History cause I had the recommendation of the department head...but that was pure dumb luck and a whole lot of brains.

Assorted posts
If you have a problem with your moderation, you can contact the appropriate people to discuss it politely. I think there's a link to the comment form in the PM you get. I'm not sure, however, as it's been a while since I was put on probation (I'm about due for another, I wonder if I can do it to myself? An interesting experiment, to be sure). Anyway, the point is that this thread is not the place to discuss your probation, you're clogging it up and preventing legitimate discussion.

On topic, people don't run away so much as they try to use distance as a defence. It's just something we do, to maintain the integrity of our opinions and beliefs. It's what happens when people become impartial, and why we look down on bias wherever it appears. People are people, especially when they aren't.

And then, when I turned it in, gave me a C-. The coup de gras? Two of the things she corrected me on, she marked "wrong", and claimed I misinterpreted what she said when I called her on it. Despite the fact that she physically erased and retyped the parts-in-question.

Yeah, I got into it... Still haven't finished the first of two books we were given for it, much less the assignment...

And class starts next month. I'm fucked.
Wait, you're a junior...damn...I feel old...I'm a senior...and have fun, glad it isn't me...
I felt old the other day when I stumbled upon a file stored as a ".bmp" file, and knew what it was.
I felt real old when I ran into a kid I used to babysit when he was in kindergarten...he's almost 11 now...god, I really just want school to start up so I have something to preoccupy me.
I still win the "I felt old when..." contest. I live in MI, so the Ford History Museum isn't too far from me. Me and my grandparents visit it on occasion.

Guess what was in a display case there?

A green Game Boy Color, Pokemon Red, Yellow, and Blue, and a "Apple II" computer (from before they started calling their computers "Macs").

Mind you, the exact same model computer they had in that case is still in one of the rooms I had classes in during 8th grade.

I find it funny some people attacked another member in this thread and yet chastised that member about attacking people.

To chastise someone over something and then do the same thing you chastised them about. I believe that is being a hypocrite.

If someone doesn't want to defend their opinion on a subject I don't think they have to. As long as they don't try to spout it out as fact I think it is fine.

I do like civil discussions, I hate when people attack someone else over their opinion.

i am a gambler, what are the odds on the newcommer?
Zero. Though that does mean a bet of 20 Euros would net you a solid E20x10^Infinity Euros, which is a relatively high amount. I wouldn't consider it a good idea though.

Damn...I made my bf feel old a couple years ago...we used to live by each other, but I moved away, but moved back...I walked up to him the first couple days of school and said, "You still look like a nerd...did you ever hit puberty?" The look on his face was priceless, he had a rebuttal though, "Yeah I did, want me to drop my pants and prove it to you?"

Maybe he didn't feel old, but he probably felt really weird...

From the sound of your first post, it seems like they gave a heated 'opinion' on the movie and when someone confronted them on the subject they had very little grounds to back it up.
Not only that, you 'failed' to see things from their perspective and didn't agree on them with (possibly) much of anything.
People on the internet don't always wanted to be confronted with their opinion, mainly since it seems anything said on the internet falls in to some unsaid 'freedom of speech' category where your opinion is always right, when in reality it's only just an opinion.
Or this person just simply doesn't like it when someone disagrees with them.
It's possible they just didn't want to argue, but by blocking you it seems more like it was something else.

Though, how they could say Transformers was any better is beyond me.
They look to be the same thing, a fun movie with a sub-par story line that has been done to death. Is that bad? Certainly not, at the end of the day if you can say you had fun and enjoyed it that's really all that matters.
The original series that both movies are based on usually had cheesy plots, but they were fun. A live-action movie isn't going to be much different.

OH and haven't you seen the SNL Weekend Update skit about the "Internet girl". Girls are already less likely to succeed due to their skills in math and science why is a 20 year old woman reviewing a movie shouldn't she have a blog about cooking.
Please... Please tell me you're kidding.

So, today I registered on Rotten Tomatoes (finally) since I saw a very interesting User Review. It was about 500 characters long, if that, and written by what I thought was a 20 year old woman. The review was about G.I. Joe. After about 5 comments or so about how she is blatantly ignoring what happened in the movie, she says she is "done with me" and blocks me.

Why is it that people get so scared when someone confronts them about their opinion? Do they find no need to defend it? Or is it because they don't even know what the hell they're talking about in the first place? Needless to say, she though G.I. Joe was an awful movie, but that Transformers was good. It really boggles the mind.

I find myself being drawn back here more and more often because people will actually, get this, discuss topics/issues. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Whether in Real life or right here on the forums?
People run away from me because I have incontinence of the mouth....er...mind... :p

But as far as my opinions go I will defend them right or wrong as well as I can.

As for Transformers and GI joe they both suck(I need to rewatch transformers before I can say which is worse TF2 is worser than both at elast...) and would have not not taken much to be a better film but as long as people buy first and think later we will get more and more crap in both consumer goods and politics.

Because some people are made uncomfortable by arguement. Im not one, but if I can see that Im making someone uncomfortable with my arguement that I'll tone it down a bit.
