Multiplaying more-luck-than-skill games
I don't think that's a terribly accurate description of Halo or any FPS game in general. Especially not the first one, which wasn't primarily a multiplayer game to begin with.

Based on your posts, I can tell you this much: your elitism is just as misplaced as the elitism by the Halo fanboys you're bashing for not accepting casual games.

Halo 3 perfected its multiplayer, provided a storyline and surprises not in the prequels such as fighting the scarabs - Halo 2 was just jump on its back and shoot everyone inside. It provided a way for console users to edit maps their way and provided an excellent medium for machinima. The elitists and sadly the devs making games that copy halo 3 miss these features.

I mean you can't honestly say it's a BAD game if over millions of people have bought it.

...very bad logic there. I shouldn't really have to say why either.

The reason is because we were told it was 'teh best thing evarr' and it wasn't. Naturally people felt betrayed and became resentful. It's the same with every thing that isn't brilliant but gets ridiculously popular and over hyped.

it did nothing, it set no bar, they said Halo 3 was innovative, but it brought nothing, it brings nothing, it's because it was pretty and it's average.

Some people like average.
It bought in Forge and Theatre modes, not to mention the advances in matchmaking.

It was pretty boring though, they couldn't help themselves creating more boring flood levels, I don't know what's wrong with them, it's like since Halo CE they keep trying to replicate the Ibrary which is one of the most boring levels in an FPS ever.

The only thing Halo had kicking for me was it's story. It was epic, and they spent tons of time making it 'epic'. Its multiplayer is still the main reason why I hate XBL. ALl the douchebags at my high school play Halo, and I hope they die.

Most people just hate it because it's popular. Same reason they hate Final Fantasy VII, Naruto and sports.

Not all FPS games but many fames based on halo including Halo. There are plenty of good FPS games too though I don't personally enjoy them, Halo I just don't count as one of them and It seems to me like the people who love such games now label themselves 'hardcore' and act upset because of 'casual' gamers as they call them. So fine if they can't get over it and accept that the people can be gamers in spite of the fact that it hurts the market in terms of making games they like, why shouldn't I dig up my old disdain for them? Its an object lesson

Because almost every game copied Halo. I'm not a fanboy of Halo, but it's easy to see, look at all the games with regenerative health, 2 guns only and many vehicles back in 2001, not many. Then when Halo came out, they all had it. I believe it's average because every idea it has had has been ripped off.

You can, however, only like Halo 3 if you played the other 2 when they came out. It's to late now.

As a game it really is pretty good, however it is not the best game ever as some people will have you believe and it has the worst online community on XBL atm.

Not so much a lesson, but a way of showing that you're just as idiotic as the guys you're accusing of being idiots.

I am simply pointing out that people could act the same way towards them. You know I will admit I complained a bit when Halo clones drowned out games like the Megaman Legends series and the second Deus ex game sucked but for the most part I accepted thats how the industry works. I am simply trying to show them that this is not the first time something like this has happned, and that many of these so called 'hardcore' gamers came into it destroying games many gamers from before then liked.

I guess what i'm saying is I am more saying "don't pick on the Newbies, you were one too once"

First off

The fact that 80 percent of the people who posted here had nothing but negative comments on the game (considering it's thought of as revolutionary, and being called average), just shows that people just want to degrade the game.

The worst thing I've heard though was it being called simplistic.

You shittin' me?

It's the only FPS on console where you can be attacked from the back, but if you're better than the person, can turn around and kill him before he kills you.

Halo 1,2 and 3 are the most talent required shooting games that exist on the console (if not any video game)

Any Halo player that's decent can pick up a Call of Duty 4 game and be great at it in 10 games. Any COD player who's never played Halo would suck after 200, believe me I know I play both, and I averaged 17 kills a game on COD after 10 games.

Oh and the Regen, Bubble shield, and Energy drain were in Halo 1,2 right? Those totally changed the way the game is played.

The only reason people hate it is because they sign on Xbox live, having never played online, but think they are good, and get 2 kills 17 deaths, and it totally turns them off of it. I know the campaign sucks, I've beat it once......on easy, havent tried it since, but it's all about the multiplayer.

If one of the requirements to be cool in gaming circles is to like halo, then I no longer want to have anything to do with video games. The friendly AI is pointless, the only challenge comes from cheap deaths that only happen on Legendary mode (or whatever its called). I cant allow myself to talk too much about the multiplayer or Ill rant forever, but let me just say that NEVER, EVER before or since Halo have I played a game in which the only strategy was LITERALLY to "get to rocket spawn, blow everyone up on the way to Sword spawn, camp at sword spawn til you need ammo, then stock up on grenades before spamming your way back to rocket spawn. Lather, Rinse, Repeat."

And thats why I think that halo 3 sucks a fat one. Thats just my opinion, dont flame me bro.

It's popular, so it sucks.

Halo 3 is not a bad game by any means, but it is definitely the weakest game in the series. For now though, it is the best multiplayer shooter on a console.

@ drollins32
HAHA only 17 kills a game!?
wow. FAIL.
I played CoD4 all through summer vacation last year (08) and averaged somewhere around 20 kills/game in free for all, no stopping power, juggernaut, or martyrdom. I used an MP5 with a silencer and UAV jammer, bandolier and steady aim. most games ended with me being 20-25 kills/1-5 deaths.
also, the equipment (sp?) wasnt in Halo 2.
oh, and having to take 10 games to grasp CoD's controls and strategy is pretty sad. Anyone with some common sense and basic battlefield knowledge can pick that game up rather easily (ie Point rocket AWAY from ground, you only get 1 frag, there is no active camo, rockets are not very good weapons when dealing with infantry.) . I wonder, how long does it take halo players to grasp Gears of War's cover mechanic? Perhaps you could win a few matches after 20 rounds?

ok let me get this out of the way first from the time halo 1 came out to the time halo 3 came out that was what i was playing

i liked halo 2 online halo 3 was fantastic online the campaigns were good to the problem is people were expecting more from it(i was very satisfied) the problem was many people are looking for story (which i dont understand why your playing a shooter for a story instead of an rpg) but the combat was good the vehicle sections were fun i thought for a shooter it was perfect the online didnt have any glitches lag was tolerable (almost) and it was fun

i think people were expecting to much from it when they should just sit down and enjoy it

and NO im not a fanboy i havent played any halo for 2 years now i played gears of war which had a amazing story good combat but the online could be very improved so dont say its just because im a fanboy

I think there are four problems people have with Halo.

1 - They like the old-style "walking arsenal" shooters and Halo pretty much brought the fall of that.

2 - They equate innovation to quality, see Halo as not innovative and thus crappy.

3 - They didn't really care for it and see all these multitudes that love it, which leads somehow to hate.

4 - They're fanboys/elitists that have to hate it either because it's a console shooter or a flagship franchise of Xbox.

Yes, you should definitely drop the hate.
