Its because bungie basically kept on releasing the same game over and over, they got boring, I don't HATE Halo, they just stopped being fun, And yes I have played all of them fully through and played some online

I find it more engaging then most modern FPSs. I definitely enjoy the multiplayer more then most (save TF2) but that's about as far as it goes. The story is crappy and the whole strait faced macho thing is stupid. The other shit it has spawned is of no interest to me because its concerned with what I don't like about it. But yeah, enjoyable multiplayer lol

"I don't like regening health as a major feature"

This is a good point, even though I like Halo, I'm not a fan of regen health. However, at least there is a pretext for it in Halo (eg. recharging energy shield) rather than just "Gunshot wounds get better if you just let yourself bleed for a while"

Also, Halo CE and Halo Reach have health bars as well. But point accepted none the less.

I played through the first game and found the tagline "combat evolved" to be false advertising. The game was pretty repetitive, slow and relatively easy. Also, I have no interest in online multiplayer for any shooter. If I want to play a shooter multiplayer, I'll host a LAN party and break out the original Unreal Tournament and its million mods.

I don't really hate Halo, though... I hate what it represents, and what gaming has become... though that's not really Bungie's fault. At least they had an in-universe plausible excuse for health regeneration.

Because it is/was popular and was revolutionary so naturally every insecure 14 year old has to hate and rage about it.........

You know, I honestly like Halo. Compared to the majority of shooters we have today, it's fast paced, arcadey, and unrealistic fun. But I hated it when it first came out. The reason? Compared to the shooters we had then, it was slow paced, overly realistic, and the "feel" was off. I still dislike it to an extent, because Halo: Combat Evolved is the single game that is most responsible for the modern, slow paced games that only allow two guns, a grenade, and a melee weapon, which also do away with health packs -- although Halo 2 has a lot to answer for that last one. I just find it ironic that the genre has exaggerated the features that made Halo so unique to the point that the series, with very few gameplay changes over the years, now occupies the exact opposite niche that it held when it was first released.

Another problem I have with the gameplay is that, for one, nothing has changed in 9 years. There's no customization, even in Reach, as the powers and abilities have little effect beyond rare and strange circumstances.
I think that's a good point. While I am a fan of the Halo series, i'll be the first one to admit that they should have used Halo 2 to introduce features that expanded beyond the core gameplay of the original.

I don't really hate it, but I felt that compared to PC shooters it wasn't anything special. But I do recognise that it's a important game for the consoles.

I enjoyed 1 & 2 (Never got to play 3) but I hate the fanboyism it generates. Most people I seem to meet compare Halo as "the father of console shooters", and that every shooter needs to be more like Halo, and that Halo is all etc etc.

Just to burst the bubble, Goldeneye 007 on N64 was iirc the first real FPS on a console. ;)

The only two things I really dislike about the Halo series is the storyline and the character development. We learn very little about Master Chief in the Halo series. All that I really remember about him is that his name is John. There is little to no character development in the games. I feel that if I have to play as a certain character through three games than it would be nice to learn more about that character. It would have been nice if they would have shown his face in Halo 3.

Halo: ODST did seem to have an ok story with a bit of character development. Plus, I think the music in ODST was the best out of all the Halo games.

The "cool to hate" argument is more often than not a strawman offered up by apologists. I'm sorry, but even if the reasons are not good, the concept of "cool to hate" is rarely true.

People might as well admit the only reason they like something is that it's popular if they're going to deride the detractors as hating it for the same reason. Anything else would be completely disingenuous.

Bad script, bland characters, bland gameplay, bland art design, even the setting is made bland and generic by... bland and generic scenery. I don't think I need to mention some of the bugs that crop up.

Graphically the game is not bad. Overall, the game isn't bad or good, its just common. What is mind boggling how people flock to a game that brings nothing to the table. Forge is about the only feature worth a damn.

It suffers from the same problem GTA does, its just not fun unless you're building ramps to launch cars and bikes off.

Halo haters don't hate Halo. Halo haters hate Halo fanboys. Halo fanboys make Halo out to be the end-all be-all of FPS's and worship Master Chief as a God. The reality is that Halo was a pretty mediocre FPS and there were many superior shooters on the PC when Halo came out. The more hype and praise that Halo got, the more irritated those of us that have played better games got. There were a lot of things I hated about Halo (the stupid story, the vehicle controls, the dumb attempts at humor, ect.) but it's far from the worst game I ever played and I wouldn't say I HATE it. I do hate Halo fanboys, though. I hate them with a passion. Not as much as I hate Blizzard or Apple fanboys or even Star Wars or Star Trek fanboys, but Halo fanboys are definitely in my top 10 list of People That the Earth Would Be Better Without. I do believe that the Halo franchise is the absolute most overrated franchise in video game history. Moreso than the Final Fantasy franchise or Mario or Zelda. They just aren't that great. There are much better FPS's out there.

I used to hate it then I played through the series. Now I think far worse of it...

... I just don't care about it.

I mean hate comes from fear, fear of competition, fear of marginalisation, fear of some great change. But Halo there is nothing, it is a very serviceable shooter with a fairly good space yarn. It's not amazing but it's not so bad that I am offended by anyone considering it good. Over-hyped, maybe, but definitely not the most over-hyped thing in this industry,

You can be a lot of things and I think it's a lot worse to be unremarkable than hated.

Yet at the same time, I did play through all the halos fairly amused, they ARE playable, there IS enjoyment to be had and the developers knew what they were doing.

uh... what?

Fast-paced is a relative term, and relative to most shooters Halo is slow:

In CoD(or MoH or blank.blank.blank.) it takes at most half a clip of an assault rifle to take someone down, and that is with terrible aim, recoil and body shots.
In Halo you would be lucky to take down an opponent's shields while shooting him in the face with half a clip of an assault rifle.

As for the Halo haters: Are you sure the haters are really hating and not just pointing out the series' flaws when the fanboys are wanking off about it? In addition some people get tired of being fed the same damn thing for a decade, can you really blame them for that?

I don't hate it, I'm just not very good at it...at all. I don't tend to play games where I can't find my niche in, but that doesn't mean I won't play it a friend's house or something.
