Noobs are people who jump right into the Multiplayer and all I hear is: "What makes you melee?" "What makes you jump.?"

Then you start to get pissed and you cant boot the fucker then you notice he/she is 0/0/20.
Then if you are playing MW/MW2 you cant kick them b/c you are in the lobby and there is that ONE guy who is friends with the noob so you cant kick him in the game so you end up killing the fucker accidentally and he/she takes it personally, so i play Hardcore mostly on Games like Bad Company 2 and MW/MW2. Now Halo3 was a bit easier b/c most of the time the noob kills me...well guess what?! X to boot MF!

Noobs: 1. A newbie who cant play. 2. A annoying person who cant play 3. A person who thinks he knows all but is always wrong.
E.G.: A guy comes in to play Halo: Reach Beta with me and my friends (there are three of us) We were winning, Then this 'noob' shows up and starts to tell us: This is how we are goin to win this. - We lost b/c the idiot followed his plan, and we did our own thing. We lost by 3 b/c he kept running in alone and yelling at us for not joining him on his suicide mission....

They often do not play the game the way that the pros play. This upsets the pros, as they expect everyone to have roughly the same style of play.

I don't.. in fact I more depise everyone who has been playing their chosen game for ages and is able to manipulate all the bullshitty glitches to their advantage. Noobs make games fun, whilst oldfags ruin it for everyone

When they ask "How do you shoot?" in a squeaky 10-year-old voice, they're just asking for some light-hearted abuse from me.

What we have is a term misunderstanding.
I always figured it like this:
n00b: An annoying person within a game.
Newb (Or Newbie): Someone new to a game.

n00bs are bad.
Newbs are fine.

That's the way I always thought it was, anyways.
This is essentially what I was going to say. It's the general ass-hattery of n00bs that people hate.

realy i see no reason to hate the players who have just started playing i dont get it.....
It really just comes down to this mate: http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20060823.

But I don't question that there are too many people out there who don't know the difference and treat both categories with equal disrespect.

that comic is pretty much /thread right there, regardless of your thoughts on the CAD comic you have to admit that this particular comic accurately illustrates everyone's point.

Its all about how much effort a player is wanting to put into understanding the game's mechanics and its comunity.
In my terminology a noob/n00b is someone that refuses to put effort into understanding it. And not only the game itself, but also the social rules in such a game.

Pour example:
- Someone who doesn't master the general spoken language in such a game and refuses to keep foreign languages into private groups or parties. If you know that you can't read/speak english (or the game's language to keep it more general), you should realize that a game in that language with all terminology referring to it, will result in a shiny bunch of graphics, where fck all makes any sense. Abit like playing in a sandbox, where you deliberately create your own piece of sandbox inside it, only to be inhabited by you. Or putting up a tent in a random person's yard without asking and still act surprised if you are usually not-so-politely asked to take a hike.
I mean, you don't see me try and play a russian or korean game if i know i'll be a single player trying to multiplayer, while you eventually end up getting mutual hate from everyone arround you because you can't communicate properly.

- In you refuse to even slay 1 monster to see how the economy works and instead go pixelhumping everyone's leg that has more flashy pixels then you and spam every possible channel with "Gief gold plz!", "I ned monny! Oly 1000 gold plz!" or "Itamz?!?!?!?!?! NAOW!!!", while in the total ammount of hours you wasted by begging you could've found enough items and/or crafting materials to sell for a usually overpriced price, not to mention the complementary cash aforementioned baddies dropped themselves.

- As mentioned above by a previous poster when playing an FPS: Shoot/press all visible buttons first, ask questions never. Shooting on anything that moves, regardless of friendly fire or bunnyhopping circles arround a teammate's hiding place like an ADHD-kid finding someone during hide-and-go-seek which results in 2 splattered brains on the back wall or frustratingly worse: only yours, to find the n00b still prancing about like a gay guy who just recieved his My Little Pony Playhouse.

- Using profanity, CAPS, or as many exclamation points you can force into you chatbox to show you are truely worth having attention, let alone help.

- Asking "should-know" questions like "How do i move forward?" or "How do i attack stuff?" and such. Now this point is debateable as i've played games where even common sense failed to solve that issue, but the most basic of basics are usually explained in "THE Manual", which is either a booklet or pdf accompanied by your LEGAL bought game, or a page on the game's website in the case of F2P games.

If any of the above is applied towards a specific player he is considered a n00b, twat, idiot, retard or in some cases (when a game has been about for quite some time) a troll or a flamer trying to get the worst from those responding, in my book.

New people (or newbs/rookies) are ok, especially if they explain why they don't know the answer to their question and what they tried to find out. I usually end up giving those people a shitload of cash and/or items & some tips for easy leveling (if you hadn't guessed yet i'm kind of an mumorpeger).
And in most cases they end up being more badass then i'd ever want to be or would become, which gives a warm tingly feeling inside..... ok nevermind that *ahem*

Soooooo where were we? Ahh yes, i'm off to play Freelancer again, that way i avoid abovementioned n00bs, or the rare occasion to be called one myself *whistles*

I like noobs, they make me look like a decent player and they are funny. Noone hates noobs, because all of us have been noobs. It's just idiots that discriminate on players for being new at the game, don't worry about what they have to say, it really isn't important

You're thinking of "newbs", OP.

If you don't know what you're doing and act like an asshole about it, you're a noob. A newb simply doesn't know what he's doing, usually due to being new to it, and doesn't mind helpful advice.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily apply when you're just playing for the lulz or experimenting with new and unlikely combinations.

That's like arguing that it's more fun to watch 2 middle schoolers push each other around then an MMA match.

I'll admit, when it comes to multiplayer games, I am a newb, and considering I don't play them very much, I will most likely not get above average. I also cannot work with a team, just doesn't work BUT *pre-emptive flame shield* I then choose not to play the team-based matches and go enjoy the every man for himself. Which I'm good at. So yes I suck at team based multiplayer and am therefore very Newbish at it, I do not ruin anyone's playtime and still do fine at random-frenzied-deathmatch-thingies.

That is my 2 brand new cents worth.

I get the noob/newbie thing, I actually get a little annoyed about people not being patient enough to find out which one they're playing with. I recently let my sister use my live account to play left 4 dead 2 online since she only has silver. It was her first time on versus, and she got really confused with spawn mode. Within a minute the other players voted her off... Now, she's pretty good on campaign so I think it was awfully unfair to kick her before she settled in. Noobs= bad, but make sure it is one before launching the attack?

Newbs are people who just started playing. Noobs (or n00bs in 1337 speak) are any player (regardless of how long they have been playing) that acts like an obnoxious jerk and is generally unlikable.

I hate noobs on the modded arcades that let you have infinte gauge bars and only perform special move after special move and counter each time they block an attack.

Fortunately Im good enough to beat most noobs selecting random characters but if the noob is good enough at being a noob he will defeat me a couple of times before forcing me to select my good characters, and then is time to chew bubble gum and kick noob ass, and im always out of bubble gum.

There are two different types of nOObs. There are the Newbs who are new to the game and welcome help from experienced players, then gradually get better.nOObs on the other hand, complain about things being overpowered and not fair. They tend to call everyone that kills them a noob and never consider themselves a noob. When an experienced player try's to help them smart off or say that they are noobs. I can't stand noobs but my girlfriend is a newb at CoD:MW2 and I try and help her and i tell her to ask for help while playing. Her gamertag is adreabri. Mine is Biscuits16
