That's exactly the case for everything that's popular where people complain about them. Think about it. In any industry, anything that's successful would have started out as nothing, in which case they would have been spotted early on by someone who helped them become big (publishers, music moguls, talent scouts, etc.). So that person would have spotted the talent, or possibly, big bucks to have been made. If something's crap, it's not successful. And don't anybody mention Twilight, it's not necessarily crap just because you all think it is, it's just aimed at a particular group of people who read it and decide it isn't crap. The only problem I personally have is that the group in particular tend to become screaming fangirls. Except the haters are actually even more idiotic and worse anyway...Marter said:I think it just has to do with how "same-y" their music is.
Also, I think it's a vocal minority that hates them. The majority of the population must like them, as they are quite successful.
But I digress. In the case of Nickelback, a talent scout or music industry bigshot would have heard themat some point and decided they sounded good. If they were indeed crap, they never would have made it big in the first place. No matter how 'same-y' their music is, they still have talent. That's one reason I hate the audience always booing Simon Cowell when he criticises stuff on Britain's Got Talent or the X Factor - he's spent his whole life in the business, surely he's more qualified to judge someone's singing abilities than a bunch of average joes off the street...
So yeah, Nickelback are not actually crap. They are very good, it's just that some people don't like them, and because those few are more vocal in their hatred (as is the case with everything popular, sadly), the idea that everyone hates them is born. The fact is, that just isn't true. Most people like them or are indifferent. There certainly isn't a 'hate culture' springing up around the band, that's for sure. I reckon the people who do hate them, though, aside from the relative few within that group who will have actually heard them and not liked them (which is fine and those people are entitled to that opinion, having given the band a fair try), are just jumping on the hatewagon because it's 'cool to hate popular things'. And that's just simply wrong.
