Why doesn't Yahtzee try Multiplayer very much?

Yahtzee is one of my favorite game reviewers and all around nerds, but there's one mistake he tends to make: He'll play a shoddy tacked-on Single Player campaign and review that and forget the multiplayer- which is sometimes the whole focus of the game! If you're going to play Battlefield or Halo or AvP or any other recent multiplayer game or whatnot for the singleplayer only, you are not going to like it very much at all. Why does he do this?
He probably does this because of all the 4 year olds with mics who seem to be taking over the online multiplayer. Seriously, i mute everyone just in case one of them might be a 4 year old. Or someone blasting rap in the background. Or someone who "gets jewed" every time he gets killed even though the other guy clearly had the drop on him. Or someone who thinks they are 100 times better than all their teammates, even when they have 10 kills to 28 deaths, and the rest of the team is 1:1 or better for their ratio.
Screw it, he doesn't play because of the mic symbol that shows up next to some gamers names.

if it puts on a singleplayer then it should always be the main focal point of the game
This as well, sorry about the mic rant.

Playing a game that's designed for Multiplayer and not actually playing the multiplayer portion of it doesn't make a good review. Example: Bad Company 2. It's a freaking Battlefield game and he didn't even touch the multiplayer.
Then why is there a singleplayer mode in it at all?
It's a crutch, a cheap excuse to lure the extra buck from singleplayer people. In other words - a useless cop-out.

Maybe totally writing off multiplayer all the time is a bit too far, but he's right, singleplayer should always outrank multiplayer in importance. Sure, Halo 3's multiplayer was damn good, but not good enough to excuse quite a disappointing singleplayer campaign, so it'll always be a 6.5/10 in my head.

If you really need to ask this question then you're obviously not thinking clearly enough.

Yahtzee is just one of those people who "review" games for what they really are. Games should have not have the multipaler dev team outnumber the fucking campaign dev team.

He's outright stated why he doesn't do this. He doesn't like people, doesn't have that many friends, and absolutely despises online multiplayer (quite rightly for most online communities in my opinion)

Also, he's made the point twice that a game should be able to stand up on it's own. If a game has a singleplayer campaign, that single player campaign should be worth buying the game for, because some people don't like multiplayer anyway.

I live in New Zealand, which isn't far from Australia. Neither country has very good broadband infrastructure (They're still rolling out ADSL2+ in major centres here, I believe it's the same in Australia, and forget about getting broadband at all in rural areas). Add that to our distance from anywhere else civilised (look us up on a world map, we're both just north of Antarctica), you get REALLY bad lag connecting anywhere. In NZ at least, we also have rather archaic broadband plans.

I can see why online multiplayer fails in Yahtzee's eyes. I personally disagree, having spent much enjoyable time playing Resistance: Fall of Man online (even though I do lose horribly). It does emphasise his point about people in onine though - they do rather suck (especially the "tag noob" accusations). Also, there's the argument of online-only games, like Warhawk and MAG - can anyone name another non-MMO game without single-player? Someone should talk Yahtzee into reviewing MAG...

Same reason that I don't like multiplayer: You're relying on other people for your 'fun'.

Har har, obviously, you don't know Yahtzee.

I believe his reason, which I agree with, is if the game can't hold itself up on its singleplayer, then it's not much of a game, now is it? And it's also his policy never to play a video game with a person that he is unable to hit physically, IE, online.

Perhaps Yahtzee should answer that question, and not everyone else? Then again, musing on why he does not is quite alright too.

Because he's not really a good gamer. I've watched ALL of his videos (even the ones on YouTube before he came here) and he's had a lot of trouble on levels I've breezed through. Online competition is tough and I assume he doesn't want to get frustrated.

Although it is annoying when he takes a game that has a wonderful multiplayer and completely ignores it. :\

Well I can understand, somtimes if you run int a bunch of idiots that will kill you to get your weapon, and then call you noob, MP can be frustrating.

EDIT: Sorry I had a bad MP match yesterday.

Say Yahtzee grades the deliciousness of jam spreads like he reviews games. He would rate them all based on how much like grape they taste, irregardless of the intended flavor.

Yahtzee: "BWA HAW, whine, whine, ::insert gay dick joke:: This doesn't taste like grape. THE AUDACITY!"

Jam: "but, but, I'm strawberry! I'm made for people who like strawberries! :'( "

Yahtzee: "Bullsnot! All jams, of all shapes, all sizes, all tastes, must stand on their ability to offer truly innovative and engaging GRAPE experience. It is all you other flavors that are the true problem with breakfast in today's world! ::insert gay dick joke:: (roll credits) please buy my book"

I'm sorry, but for me, Yahtzee has lost the funny. Where once he made funny and insightful critiques on the poorer aspects of major releases, now he just vomits a steady stream of horse manure punctuated by an occasional gay/sex/dick joke. Sure, some of the things he says are still kinda-sorta chuckle inducing, but only in the same way that some kid in your first grade class said "doo doo boogers" behind the teachers back. Most of the time I wonder if we even played the same games...

EDIT: Yahtzee gives me the impression that he is the sort of guy who plays Monopoly, or heck, Connect Four by himself. I mean, I don't recall either of those games having an engaging single player experience.

Probably because he doesn't enjoy playing against annoying american 12 year olds with a 200 ping advantage.
