Why Halo is called innovative?

Halo 1 was innovative(at the time)...now calling halo innovative is like calling pinneapples helmets...while one could argue the point one would look like a reaching jackass with an odd obsession for fruit...
Issue is, why it is innovative back then.
I guess if I really think about it the only innovative thing about it is the grenades...

obviously not , becuase you dont have a social life if you think no other FPS has a better story line...big fanboy saying. fanboys always say they have social lives...and if you had any common sense you would know that, and half-life series, deus ex, System Shock 2, Bioshock, Call of Duty (all) shit even unreal tourny 2 had a better story line
First of all, what the hell does having a social life have to do with knowing other FPSes with storylines? And secondly, Unreal Tournament 2003 (if that is what you mean by UT2) had the dumbest storyline ever. If you honestly think it was better in story content than Halo, I really can't do anything but shake my head in shame at such stupidity. (Another thing: Put periods at the end of sentences, and use spell check. It is shameful for you to use lower-case letters when mentioning the great Half-Life and Deus Ex series.)
The definition of Innovative:The term innovation means a new way of doing something. It may refer to incremental, radical, and revolutionary changes in thinking.< This my friend, just isn't Halo.
I never said anything about innovation in Halo. And in response to your previous post, it is called Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict. That one had a better storyline, but it still is merely decent. Whether it is better than any of the Halo games' storylines is debatable.

Your honour, I rest my case.

To quote:

There are certain shows that you can safely assume most people have seen. These shows were popular and considered fantastic when they first aired.

Now, however, these shows have a curse (and lots of Hype Backlash) upon them. Whenever we watch them, we'll cry, "That is so old" or "That is so overdone". The sad irony? It wasn't old when they did it. It wasn't overdone when they made it up. But the things it created were so brilliant and so popular with other show writers that they were not only copied, they became woven into the fabric of that show's genre ? to the point that they are taken for granted, and endlessly repeated. Although they often began with the intention of shaking up an existing status quo and saying something new, they in turn through a process of over-exposure and imitation became the status quo, and are thus subject to accusations of being Rule Abiding Rebels by later generations who aren't aware that they did it first.
PS: As for Halo 3, Forge and Saved Films makes it innovative enough.

Great article :)

About games with undeserving hype backlash.
"Among the PC Gaming crowd, Halo itself may count as well. Doesn't help that the first two games were ported to the PC about two/three years late, in the light of other FPSes (more often than not sharing or even outperforming certain aspects of the Bungie title) that came out to the PC. "

Okay, since I was stuck with a PC that had trouble playing Soul Reaver 2, I mainly played games as Quake 2 and 3, the original Doom and Half-life (that was until 2004), I tried to check out this "Halo" game everyone was making a fuss about. It can't be really bad if everyone seems to like it, right?

Anyway I tried it and since it ran at the speed of evolution at the time, I stopped playing it and decided that I would play it when I get a brand new PC. After the Rapture, I found myself playing Halo again, to only find I was actually playing a bland, pretty boring game that ripped off pretty much any science fiction element to date. Even the design of Master Chief looks like Doomguy with a full body armour.

And so, evertime I hear of a game that is incredibly hyped I assume it's shit, until I play it and enjoy it (and no, I'm not copying Yahtzee's philosophy, since I played the game 2 years before ZP even had started).

What halo brought BACK was fun doom style "shoot before you think" gameplay.
And guess what doesnt get carried over to the sequels?
I hate that they removed the live system...
