I actually registered an account on the escapist to respond to this (I normally just lurk and read over the conversations that frequent the forums) *snip*

I don't think I've managed to enrage someone enough to join just to counter me before heh. Still, despite all your well thought out reasons, I'll still call australia the better country.

Here's a couple of quick reasons (I have stuff to do today, sorry I can't devote more time to this) Oz > USA

1: We have no KKK.

2: Our religious nutcases just spout to their flock, they don't go protesting at the funerals of homosexuals. They mostly get ignored in politics too.

3: Check out of our rates of violent crime. Many of us may not like the fact the government took our guns away some time ago now, but it has been a greater boon than hinderence to the majority of aussies.

4: Almost everyone around the world loves us.

5: Our beaches. 'Nuff said on that one really.

6: Our beer. 'Nuff said there too.

7: Down here, if you're an egotistical moron who think they're top of the world, we'll tear you down several pegs, not put you on a pedestal (celebrity culture being a little different here. Kanye West, for example, couldn't have claimed to be the "voice of this generation" if he'd been an aussie. Not if he wanted to keep his pride anyway).

8: George W Bush would NEVER have gotten the leadership of a major political party. He'd have had extreme difficulties in getting a ministerial position too.

I could probably go on and on and on, but I've gotta scoot, so enjoy. I'm sure there are plenty of aussies here who could flesh this out further, but I imagine that will need a new thread.

every nation in the world loves you? I know one nation that your nation hates without reason, except maybe because we've beaten you in most of the rugby world cups. Especially because you are descended from us! show some gratitude.

I don't think America is amazing because I don't like how they treat the British.
I went on American Playstation servers on my PS3 for Call of Duty 4 and in every game, everyone was saying things like, "Say hi to the queen for me," or "Isn't it time you went off and had you afternoon tea."
This really annoys me of how big headed some Americans are, and I was really tempted to say "Aren't you meant to be in Mcdonalds super-sizing yourself?" But everyone there was American so that wouldn't have been a smart move.
But I did it anyway. They got REALLY annoyed so I went away laughing.

But when Americans get funny, that's when it is funny, because half the time their Egos get smashed and it is funny.

Don't kid yourselves. Britain had to fight off Nazi Germany in the Battle of Britain on our damn own. (A little help from a few foreign pilots). America was happy to see us under a Swastika. It was only after Pearl Harbour that they felt it necessary to take the war to Europe, when they could gain influence over the severely weakened countries there. So NO, America has not lovingly leapt into the fray whenever there is trouble and don't even try to suggest that they have.

Well, what about all the shit we sent you? The military equipment? The destroyers? (Sure, we got island bases, but we gave you 50 freaking destroyers!)Furthermore, the British and French did much more to further the cause of Germany's expansionism than the U.S. did (good old Mr. Appeasement Chamberlain) and the U.S. certainly did not want to see the rise of Nazism (or can you provide me proof?)

And to "take advantage of weakened countries." How so? Our war foundries gave equipment to everyone, we banded with the British and helped get back France, we helped beat back the Nazis, then waited and let Russia have the honor of taking Berlin. Europe belongs to you guys, we didn't take any colonies from it (well, we got parts of Berlin, but it was given back) and we helped rebuild everything. How did we take advantage of you guys?

However, we did go drunk with power after WW2 and started attacking everything that moved. I'll give you that.

First off, Appeasement was not intended to start World War II, in fact completely the opposite - to avoid conflict. It was a mistake, sure, infact, kind of like the US's isolationism!
Secondly, the Battle of Britain was an aerial conflict and I don't see many flying destroyers, so the destyroyers that your country oh so generously "donated" (or TRADED) did squat to help against the Nazi's.
And military equiptment? The spitfire's and hurricanes we used are ALL Britain, baby.
And yes you did take advantage of Europe! Hence why you still have military bases in many of our countries (fair enough we are allies) and ended up at loggerheads with Russia (who won the race to Berlin fair and square - you didn't "wait for them" - you didn't want to get in their way and were worried after Market Garden)

Oh and remember the Falkland's war? We received no help from you then either. So, no you don't jump into world conflicts and rescue everyone and I just wanted to make that point clear.

The UK is the place to be. For a small place we more than hold our own on the international stage. The USA?s achievements are almost shameful when compared to what smaller countries achieved with tiny populations and less resources. America is shockingly incompetent and has achieved little when you compare to smaller countries who achieved many thing with less while Americas greatest accomplishment is possibly MacDonalds

If i break my leg in America i have to pay alot of money to get it fixed and if im poor then im screwed.

Break my leg in any other modern country, my taxes will cover it and get better health care all round.

Well, you've almost got it, but not quite. If you are below the poverty line in the U.S. then you are eligible for medicaid and the government will cover all of your hospital bills. The problem we have is if you make enough to be above the poverty line but don't invest in health insurance either because you don't think you can afford it or just think nothing will happen to you then you're fucked if you do get hurt or sick. It's not actually the poor that are getting shafted, it's the middle class. It's the same thing with the Universities. If you are very poor then you can apply for financial aid and the government will pay most if not all of your tuition. Only if you are middle to upper class will the government not pay for your schooling. So, middle class parents have to pay for their child's tuition and often they cannot afford to send them to the schools on that list. Really, we're not lengthening the gap between rich and poor we're keeping the middle class from becoming rich.

It is an easy circle that is working behind the america is awsome thought:
When someone from the Usa does something pretty nice (flying to the moon) he waves his flag all over the place while every American is hapy about it and constantly tries to tell everyone else how awsome they are.
Contrast: When most other Persons do something great they will be modest about it and thank the people who helped them. They do't smear patriotism all over the thing they acomplished and their nation doesn't act like there is a new national hollyday just because somebody did somethng great.

And now the mathematical aproche: the number of awsome things/people dividet by the number of us-citicens the rusulting number would realy suck...One a large scale in all those us-citicens there have to be some clever guys when you belive in darvinism
