Why is Metal the dominant music genre on internet gaming forums?

Soon we'll be listening to Ninja robot zombie chef metal, an Oriental, electronica, fugue played on the electric guitar using a whisk like a bow.
Is it wrong that I think that'd actually be pretty cool?
It's very wrong.

Imagine playing CoD WaW to some poppy tunes...
Well actually, when I was playing the level in front of the Reichstag on veteran no less, my bro did start playing Billie Jean. It was hilariously surreal to say the least.

I always thought being gamers would make people more inclined to like electronic/8-bit music like the video below so I find this quite interesting.
I'm with you on this, I went through a metal phase when I was 15, but since then I've been listening to 8Bit and Electronica, and thanks for that song, I'm currently looking at various Crystal Castles vids, really good songs.

i was trying to find the article on it but i couldn't, someone did a study on the listening habits of geeks, specifically coders and gamers, and they did find that most of them listened to metal, industrial and classical

now there's a few reasons for this. first and foremost it's the construction of the songs themselves. those 3 genres tend to have overly complex songs, lyrically and musically. so that is one of the draws for why they liked it, it got their brain thinking and kept it active trying to follow the various melodies and harmonies found in the songs.

secondly with the metal and industrial crowds they tend to be more accepting of everyone no matter what. to get a look at the metal scene watch "Metal a Headbangers Journey" and "Global Metal" and do it in that order cause Global Metal won't make much sense cause he refers to the first movie a few times. so having a crowd that is willing to accept you and like having you around is very appealing. i mean at most metal shows if someone looks at you odd, just toss up the horns and say "WOOOOOOO" or something similar and they won't try to kick your ass and might offer you some beer. mmmmmm beer

there is also the fact that metal has a great driving force behind it and is more aggressive than other forms of music. this lends itself to getting your blood pumping and moving and wanting to do something. it also gets the adrenaline pumping in your system

as good as the original Public Enemy version of "Bring the Noise" is, it just doesn't get the blood pumping as much as the version they did with Anthrax.

there is also the lyric content of metal as well. a lot of metal songs tend to be about killing and battle and drinking and other such activities. so i think it will put you more in a mood to go kill stuff than a lot of other music does

Never heard of Gfunk, any you can recommend?
Behold, G-Funk:

G-funk stands for gangsta funk, which is essetially producers taking funk tracks from the 70s and sampling them in songs.

Is metal dominant? I always hear douchebags playing rap over the mic. Thank god for the mute button.

Gotcha, thanks for the heads up on that. Seems that songs like that will just crop up on regular albums now and again.
Pretty sweet though.

Ha, that was amazing! I couldn't stop laughing for ages. Yes, Crunk is another example, the emphasis isn't on the lyrics, but they tend to have a similar kind of theme such as above (or just nonsensical in general). The other genres would be G-Funk, some forms of hardcore hip hop, and a good deal of southern Hip Hop, but that's not to say all of it. I won't count mafioso and Horrorcore, because to me that seems like they are adopting a certain theme for storytelling or entertainment purposes, like pirate metal.

I have a certain dislike for sub-genres such as Pirate metal and the likes, I can dig folk metal but when you start throwing shit like pirates into the mix.
Soon we'll be listening to Ninja robot zombie chef metal, an Oriental, electronica, fugue played on the electric guitar using a whisk like a bow.

Glad you liked the mashup, it's awesome to say the least.
Hmmm, it's been a long time, and I tend to listen to mainly underground and obscure subgenres like Jazz rap and others(I seem to abuse one section, then move on, moving back every now and then), but I think this should cover it.

Cypress Hill, Nate Dogg, 213 and Warren G are commonly associated with G-Funk, they would be your ticket.

EDIT: BAH NINJA! I'll get you yet!!!

I think metal is good gamer music because it sounds violent...so unless your playing Pokemon (no offence meant) its good music to have on while your killing virtual people :)
