Why is Neverwinter Night 2, one of the greatest games, shunned by so many gamers of this forum.

There are some hidden treasures of the past that goes unnoticed. Yet it doesn't seem to be the case with nwn2.

My theory is that people brought the game, played it for 30 min, then quit because there weren't enough explosions. To those I can only say you have cheated yourself out of one of the greatest gaming experiences you can have.

However I understand that it might be hard for some people to get into it. Here are some tips:

- Play for at least 2 hours before you quit. The game is very slowly paced in the beginning to give you a true motivation and background, this will ultimately make the game better at a later stage, so just try your best to enjoy it.

- Start with a fighter, if you don't want to wrap your head around all the dnd rules and such. Just play a fighter they are ridiculously easy and since its a party game then you will have plenty to do in a fight anyway.

- Play it in on holiday or over the weekend. This games requires you to play it for a long time and if you don't play it in one sitting then the story might become to hard to keep in mind. You will absolutely ruin it for yourself if you play it disjointed.

Some people tell me the game is totally bugged, this is not the case. At least not any more, it might have been the case when the game came out, but since I brought the game like 6 month after release then I never got to experience them.

Because of Neverwinter Nights 1. Its literally the same situation as the 2 KotoRs.

Because... Well, this may sound crazy, but stick with me here... Becuase, some people have opinions! They like/dislike what they want to!
It was a good game, I liked it. Some didn't, but I didn't delve into WHY. It's like me saying to someone else "You don't like Rugby? Let me tell you why you're WRONG."

Well.

NWN2 according to me:

-Stupid specs needed for such mediocre visuals
-Mediocre Visuals
-Awful inventory system
-Simply not very exciting story
-Meh

I don't think people buy games called Neverwinter Nights 2 expecting explosions. I think most of your criticism comes from fans of the first game and its expansions, which were not explosion heavy games.

6 months is a lot of time to get a game in working order, which would not describe how it was released.

I think a lot of people are stuck comparing it with the first one and new players might be put off by how outdated it looks. For me the camera for nipple-tearingly frustrating at first but I got around it, I've played it for about 30hrs or so (I'm around half way through) but deleted it to make room for something else a while ago. Then again I also like Kotor II which a lot of people don't seem to like. =\

Because I don't think people have given it a chance, to use your example. Its like if you don't like Rugby solely based on a guy with a Rugby shirt peeing on your fence.

Also if you weren't allowed to challenge peoples opinions on a forum then what's the point of a forum?

from what I hear about KOTOR 2 its not the game itself thats at fault

but more that fact that its rushed half finished and overall ruined because of executive meddling...a sad case of what could have been

that said I havnt played KOTOR 2

'cause its cool to be on the bandwagon of hate! Neverwinter Nights 2 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, are prime examples of such behaviour. Quite a few folks do it out of misplaced loyalty to BioWare (Hurr Durr, Obsidian you suck, scraping off sequels Hurr Durr), others will cry bloody murder over anything that seems even just remotely unfinished/buggy, and then there are people that just don't like it because.. they don't like it. Opinions.

I liked it and do not believe it warrants the amount of hate it is getting (much like some other RPG that was released recently). There are only very few games out there that are so blatantly BAD that they deserve to be hated.

The storyline was pretty poor, the characters never clicked with me, and when it first came out it was buggy as hell. I bought it again (I lost my originals) when it came to steam and had fun but it couldn't hold a candle to HOTU.

To compare E-Peens.
But back on point, yes, some people won't have given it a chance, but the way you're saying it comes across as if you're saying that ANYONE who doesn't like it just hasn't been bothered to try it, and they're playing it wrong.
I doubt that's what you mean, but it's the way it seems.

It had an absolutely horrible engine. You needed the most monstrous PC to make the game look like anything but arse, and yet it still tried really hard to look like arse. Also, the story didn't grab me at all, and the gameplay was glitchy as fuck. I was in the first main city for about 5 minutes before I got attacked by a group. I died because someone was attacking me from inside the scenery. That's why I quit.

Its a fact that KotoR is a very unfinished game. As for NWN2, it was just very inferior to NWN1, and when the new game is not as good as the previous...it in comparision is worse than a game thats just not as good. You dont buy a new game because you want to get LESS fun out of it than the one before. Its not a Bioware fan thing. DA2, made by Bioware, is getting alot of flak for not being as good as 1 in alot of areas, which was also made by Bioware.

Also NWN1 is a joke game compared to NWN2, sure NWN1 is playable but it feels more like a Diablo game with some dialogue then a true and honest RPG. Also I know NWN1 is mostly known for its online community but I never got to play that, only the single-player which is mediocre at best.

Because they didn't wait for more patches before starting it?!

BTW, that's my 1st rule when it comes to Obsidian... WAIT FOR PATCHES before purchase, they never seem able to ship game without major bugs!!!! But their stories are better then Bioware's most of the time (and Kreia was brilliant).
