Might i ask, what the hell is the point of acheivments/trophies? They don't do anything, just make you look like a big ol' fat retard (parden my french). "Ooooh, look at me, i've got an acheivment for getting this many points in a round of Halo, everyone get on the ground and lick my balls."

The only thing that acheivments/trophies should be good for is for Online Usage. Say, instead of them being little space wasters, why don't they give you points varieing on how hard the actualy acheivment was? Then let you buy stuff off of Xbox Live or PSN.

I myself am a Playstation lover (i got a PS2 for my Birthday when it came out). I now own my own PS3 and i love it cause it won't brick itself just like my friends 360 did twice in a month. Just thought i'd mention that
That only happens if you get cocky about them. I do not think achivements or gamerscore are a sign of skill. Their have been harder games in the past that did not have achivements. But it is a nice thing to have to get you motivated to do things you would normally not do. For example, without the achivement system, I may never have tried veteren on CoD4. Some levels were a real pain, but eventually I got my Mile High Club achivement and it felt great. Achivements are really for the people like me who take pride in their video game accomplishments. If you dont care about them, they dont exactly hurt you, so it works both ways.

Well Mass Effect was one of the first games of this gen. that I saw which had actual in-game effects when you completed achievements, I think we're starting to understand how to use achievements effectively and not just as an e-penis extension - but for the most part it will just be a "to-do list" that will add onto your epenis, depending on how much you've completed.

-and for what it's worth, the Trophies system has a few minor changes but for the e-penis factor they do seem better, since gamerscore just has one huge bundled up score, meaning that someone could have completed a lot of easy achievements, or a few hard ones, but the PSN card shows how much of each difficulty you've completed.

Also I was going to post a pic. of that 360 kid that says "It isn't just beating the games, it's showing everyone online that I did" but I can't find it ;_;

EDIT: Oh, an example, lets say CoD4 gets "trophies" - completing the game once will result in a "bronze" trophy, but beating it on veteran and completing Mile High Club will result in a "Gold" and "Platinum" trophy. I still think they should have in-game effects like a lot of other games do though >_> that's the real motivation for me.

OK well that's a little ridiculous though, just because the majority thinks something is better doesn't mean it actually is. Remember when almost all of Germany thought Hitler was awesome? Popularity of [something] =/= Quality of [something]

Thats not fair. You aren't allowed to quit when you're losing.
Give me a break. You can't lose when it comes to opinion wars. And whats to win? Self gratification? I got those Crackdown achievements I don't have yet for that.

I didn't have any issues with Sony until I had to deal with their customer service department. Their first task was to try and tell me I was wrong and that there was no problem, when I convinced them there was INDEED a problem they proceeded to blame me for CAUSING the problem and began to berate me and try to get a credit card number for the cost of the phone support. Their customer support is pisspoor to begin with and as you go up the chain it get worse and worse.

Well, what or whom do you suggest one should like about Sony? They are a faceless moloch. They do not have someone like Miyamoto and they do not have truly likeable characters. And they lie to their customers. Isn't that simple enough???

Sony isn't the only one under criticism, but it is yet another victim of Microsoft.

Oh, IBM, why didn't you take DOS when you had the chance?

Because I was there when Nintendo and Sega were happily scrapping until Sony came along, with your retard mate Microsoft, and joined in, crippling Nintendo and killing Sega completely. You rotton bastards! I will never forgive you Sony!

On a more serious note, I think the reason for Sony hate is that there was a lot of mediocre tripe that came out with it (PS1 this is), and this was harming companies who produced more original games. It seemed to be destroying the 'noble art of gaming'. I soon stopped thinking like this when I was seeing more and more milestones in gaming history turn up on the PS (Resident Evil, Final Fantasy 7, MGS, etc.), and knocking Nintendo down a few pegs is genuinely a good thing in terms of the games that both sides will produce.

^Ok that is the most muddled uninformative thing ever but screw it *POST*

To be fair, no customer service is any better anyway.
