[sub]Weird, I'm writing a paper over this very topic as we speak. Hooray for free choice when it comes to topics like these![/sub]

Considering the fact that in Digimon it is one human "Tamer" to one creature, and the fact that the Digivolution system is very different from the evolution system of Pokemon, I would think that they are very different. The way I see it, Pokemon's popularity is what propelled people to believe that it is "better."

When it all comes down to it however, they are both respectable franchises with their own fans and games. Any true fan of either can respect that, and choose to not compare the two. I for one, love both of the series, what with Pokemon having the better games and Digimon having the higher quality anime. I do however, have a few favorite Digimon games that I consider to be quite fun. In the end, I suppose it doesn't solve anything to say one is better than the other.

What's important is that they are both fun to enjoy. To me, that is all that matters.

I wouldn't be even the slightest bit surprised if Nebuchadnezzar wrote a story about a little yellow creature that comes out of a red-white ball and continuously chants a part of its name and shoots lightings. Or if Mozart wrote an unreleased Bulbasaur-symphony for that matter. The fact is: pretty much every man-made thing (especially anything in any ways related to the context of entertainment industry) is either plagiated in a way or based on something previously created/invented. "The first story ever told is the only original story to this day".

I remember the old digivice that I got when i was young, kinda like a pedometer so when you walk enough you'll hear the noice and you'll be fightning some random digimon.

On case in hand, Pokemon was in its high day when Digimon was around, pokemon was also more frequent in comparrision to Digimon.

5.Pro's Con's of Both

Pokemon
1.First of the Two so It had Initive
2.Had 150 first off, which was a set number of the two
3. 3 evolutions was set for them
4. Had a more Open World feel
5. Due to 4, you could basicly meld a simple story from it.
*1. Now its become broken, when you create god you offically should stop making more
*2. The plot of pokemon isn't really that all deep as to Digimon is.
*3. Repeticious
*4. Now you have just a lot of pokemon with more unoriginallity
*5. Character Development isnt...noticable.

Digimon
1. Second of the two which then it had more time to meld
2. Had a lot of digimon which were both original and unoriginal
3. It had balance
4. Its plot was more driven
5. Likeable Characters and Unlikeable Ones as well
*1. Lots of ways to digivolve. this is kind of good, but hard if you wanna memorize the combo's
*2. Sometimes in few FEW places it got cheezy for a bit.
*3. It was linear plotwise, but had side offs like a tree.
*4. Because it came second, people did start seeing it as a redo of pokemon
*5. Some people probably couldn't handle some of the designs of the digimon

Pro's and Con's are of my opinion. Some Fact, Some Opinion.
Con's I've listed can also be used as pro's if you change the viewpoint.

For Now, To Summarize, Respect both franchizes as they are. Digimon is Driven, Pokemon is Open World.

We should ask the Gobots.

If you don't know who I'm talking about don't say so and make me feel old.

i TRIED to get into digimon (as a poor man's pokemon) but it just wasnt happening... it was too similar

Because each franchise is functionally identical to the other and Digimon came after Pokemon. I actually suspect Pokemon was simply an extension of the various simple portable electronic games of the mid to late 90s (Tamagachi's or whatever the things were called), and it is likely that Digimon attempted to do something similar and the resulting similarity between the two was because of a shared root idea.

Ive talked about this with a few people on here, Digimon makes a better show, Pokemon made for a better game, Im sick of people that ***** about this, Dont say digimon copied pokemon (NOt directed at the OP, jsut saying) there different in a lot of ways, so just shut up, and go on with your lives, Ill stick with Typhlosion and my Digimon partner Zero, because there both awesome (But Zero will be more awesome to me)

Maybe it wasn't whole-scale plagiarism. But, to believe that Digimon didn't rip-off certain elements of Pokemon to cash in on its popularity is just naive.

(notices thread, bursts out in laughter.)

People think it is a copy because it is, and it's an intelligeant one. Even if it was in production at the same time, it was only successful off the back of a similar program that had already made a fortune. It was a direct copy and an intelligeant one, it made the company a quick buck.... unless it's still going too... then flamed out and survived on mervhandise. The producers would have known that it wouldn't have been as successful but it would have peaked from launch and lasted at least four seasons.

Did all that make sense? It's 5am.

Well, February 27, 1996 in Japan, is when the first Pokemon came out, Red and Blue then a year later in June 26, 1997, so no Digimon didn't copy it, but may have had plenty of ideas, eg Eggs (Digi eggs or Pokemon eggs). But over the years my favorite has been claimed to Digimon.

I remember as a kid, I loved Digimon, probably more than pokemon. It was much easier to make up digimon and pretend they were real, because they never had static video games like pokemon to remind you your ideas were not worthy. I just went out in the backyard with my friends and we had imaginary digimon adventures. Good times :) But now that I'm older, pokemon seems to be the one that's stuck to me. Hm...odd.

The 'mon's at the end.
The fact that they 'capture' and battle their digimon/pokemon. That's about it...

Of course it's very different from Pokemon and Digimon.

Probably because the Pokemon anime came out a year earlier. At least, I believe that's how it went for North America at least.
Pokemon aired 1997 whereas Digimon was invented in 1993 as a male alternative to the Tamaguchi.
