North Korea and South Korea should have annual Starcraft matches!

This doesn't really surprise me, we're all gamers deep down.

If he LIKES gaming, then you can get THROUGH to him with gaming. Send me in with a copy of CoD:4, maybe some Mario Kart, chips, and a shitload of Dr. Pepper and they will be democratic in a week...
...Or I'll be dead. But it's worth the risk, no?

If the little dude can avoid the pitfalls of the average evil dictator, maybe something good might come out of it.
Going by what we've seen of him, he would most likely be the best option, given his father doesnt really like him, wheras the other two are being raised by daddy to be dictator. Plus any pictures I've seen of the little guy, he actually seems well....happy and jolly.
so did Mao... that didnt turn out too well

Ok, this can't be right. Everyone knows they don't have electricity in North Korea.

OT: I can see this becomming a B grade success story movie. Just imagine it, the disenfranchised son of a despotic ruler loves to play Starcraft, and so he moves to his father's sworn enemy to become a champion in his own right. Who wants to buy the rights?

Woah, so just because he plays to much video games, he's not fit to run the country?

I've always thought that Kim Jong il seemed to be a fairly interesting person, and besides him being a dictator, I really don't know of any human rights violations. His family seems pretty interesting too.

Let's all hope Johg-chol doesn't decide to pick up a copy of homefront.
Kek! I am sure it'll be his favourite game soon enough, though it'd have to include the option of fighting for N. Korea too. But good catch.
I just figured he would figure out how to invade The United States based on the beginning of the game. Then he would put down any sort of Wolverine-style uprisings based on that game.

Oh my god, it makes perfect sense!

Don't you see? Kim Jong-chol is preparing a secret North Korean Starcraft team that will trash the living bejesus out of the South Korean ones! The proof is right here for all to see!!
My god...

I think you're onto something.

I don't know about you but when I play Tropico and Civ I'm a right nasty bastard, let alone other types of games, so I don't know how I'd feel about someone raised to power who plays those sorts of games would handle it :p

I have a sinking suspicion this guy ALWAYS choses to nuke Megaton.

That said, they SHOULD have a hardcore PC gamer in there as the top dog. Any PC gamer worth his salt would look at the situation, crack their knuckles, and say 'Let's gather some serious frakking resources'. Within ten years, he could have a Civilization or Empire worth defending, and his Craft, be it to wage War or to elevate his people to the Stars, would be well honed.

North Korea has hundreds of conventional artillery pieces pointed at Seoul, a city with a population in the millions. Seoul can be pounded into gravel at any time with no warning and no way to stop them.

Just regular people. You know, school teachers, store managers, factory workers, grumpy teenagers, old people. Don't even give a shit about N. Korea, just want to go about doing regular people things.

Hilarious.
Your wrong. Airstrikes from the S. Korean airforce and US airforce would prevent the city being levelled. There have been contingencies about this in place ever since the ceasefire in the 50's.
Also your flippant remark is wrong. No one in South Korea, especially Seoul dwellers, could ever be described as 'not giving a shit' about North Korea.

If the two Koreas want to battle it out to see which one's better, don't drag all of us into it... just duke it out in Starcraft!
I think only South Korea is big on Starcraft. I'm probably wrong though.

He already has the tactics down...

Think about having an army behind him. *shudder*
In real life, marines can shoot while running.
In Starcraft 2, you have to stim them then spam right-click stop.

What's he gonna do, tell them to RETREAT SHOOT RETREAT SHOOT RETREAT SHOOT?

Wrong as usual, Tom. He is groomign Jon-un to be his successor.
It's been well known for a while now, about Jong-un, right? I was thinking the same thing. It must be because I read news at least once a month.

It would seem that attempts at witty banter from the peanut gallery or more important than political accuracy.

I was going to let this post go (not like it's my job to TOTALLY SCHOOL armchair generals), but your use of the word flippant is so forced... it has made me physically sick. You are trying to hard to sound like an intellectual.

I have a marine buddy on base in Seoul. They say S. Koreans wonder why, in the face of abject poverty, N. Korea FLIPPANTLY continues to threaten everybody instead of just combining back into Korea. Which brings me to another point: Why do you think, in the face of such FLIPPANCY, that S. Koreans should just bend over backwards and let N. Korean aggression define who they are and how they go about their daily lives? You think they are weak or something? How FLIPPANT of you.

I call you an armchair general because you have no understanding of actual military logistics. To you, it's as easy as AIR STRIKES AND BOMB THE ARTILLERY PIECES. I'm not an armchair general because I have an understanding of what something like that would entail: How many planes would that take? What kinds of planes do I use? How much fuel will I need? How many air fields will I need to launch from? How many will be available? How fast can I launch any given plane from these fields? How many bombs would that take? What kind of bomb do I use? How many men would that take? How do I simultaneously launch hundreds of planes so as to bomb the targets in concert with the other planes? What defenses will my men be up against? Do I need to escort the bombers? If I can't bomb all the targets, will the remaining targets commence an attack? WILL I HAVE ENOUGH FUEL TO ATTACK HUNDREDS OF TARGETS SIMULTANEOUSLY WHILE DETOURING AROUND KNOWN DEFENSES TO ATTACK IN PERFECT CONCERT WITH OTHER PLANES THAT MAY OR MAY NOT MOVE AT THE SAME SPEED OR LAUNCH QUICKLY ENOUGH FROM THEIR AIR FIELD? WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE ARTILLERY PIECES FIRING PREEMPTIVELY BECAUSE OF THE APPROACH OF HUNDREDS OF BOMBERS? WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT THE VERY ACT OF POSITIONING ALL THIS HARDWARE WITHIN OPERATIONAL RANGE causes exactly what I've said over and over again.

To anybody who read this far, and who thinks I may be over-reacting a wee bit... well sometimes you feel really strong about something. I had to lay into yonder quotee's opinion because it was freaking, incredibly, absolutely ridiculous to believe you can just bomb the Artillery emplacements.

flippant
Attack me and call me names all you want. You are still wrong. Simple as that. Feel as strong as you like, again you are still wrong.

All the questions you ask are accounted for in the contingencies. Every answer is of course contingent on how the strike comes about. The S. Koreans have spent 50 years preparing for exactly that kind of event and have planned their response if he happens. I don't claim to know exact details but it stands to reason that any nation in S Korea's situation would plan for exactly that kind of attack.

I called you flippant for your off hand comment about the S Koreans 'not giving a shit'. I disagree. Quite profoundly.
