Guys, I think we're overlooking the obvious:

She hates Zynga so much that she is willing to kill a baby just to bring it down.

Holy shit that comment about her in prison was dark man. I mean like not professional journalism dark... wow.

It's sad that this happened due to an obsession/addiction and I wish things like this wouldn't happen.

"Oh my god, I wanted to plant sweet potatoes, not regular potatoes!! FarmVille makes me rage!!!" ::kills baby::

...there is absolutely no ounce of relevance or sanity in that excuse!

There is no excuse for killing your own baby, people like her shouldn't be allowed to breed or look after children.

Okay, that chick deserves to be shaken to death and buried in a farm. IRONY!

OT: Seriously, that has to be the worst parent ever. Blaming Farmville is an act of desperate stupidity.

No where in that article does it state that the woman herself is putting the blame on the game. The article says that the woman pleaded guilty to the crimes.

Honestly, some of you people either should start looking at source material or start reading thing more carefully.

but I mean... it's fucking farmville! A game like Farmville driving people to do stupid things? I had a feeling something like this was going to happen...

Is this maybe a result of the casual game audience getting too "hardcore"? what about when a casual gamer gets into the hardcore and then gets "hardcore" over it?

could these bring rise to similar behaviour? Will they have the nerve to blame us, rather than their own lack of self-control?

No, it's not the games fault. You're just a evil *****, and I hope to God that something horrible happens to you. Because you deserve it.

Happen to know a woman who shook her baby out of frustration too...nasty thing indeed. Still, she managed to cool herself off with a short stay in the psych ward, got out again, went through all kinds of self-discovery about how her impatience drove her towards it and well...she seems to be doing better as of late. Even starting to be the kind of person I'd like to know.

It can happen all too easily and as the consumer culture grows more and more impatient to 'get their money's worth' I expect it to increase even moreso. And no amount of seething and wishing that this woman gets 'shaken' and beaten in jail for this thing will decrease it from happening even moreso as time goes on. Facing the elements that contribute to such impatience and inability to raise a child (a very painstaking task to be sure), on the other hand, will.

This bit of news however really does make me pose a question to any Escapist reader that might be willing to answer. I am curious...if it meant that this woman managed to avoid her sentence on the grounds of a game 'making her do it', would you be okay with it if it meant that Zynga would, as a direct result of this, begin to collapse?

I am honestly curious which vendetta gamers feel would take precedence. That over a company, which engages in dubious business practices and has become known for many as a mockery of gaming...or against a woman whose impatience drove her into a fatal mistake which she, at this point in time, tries to vainly justify with a defense, that has earned the scorn of most gamers as well?

The most ridiculous bit for me was "Had a ciggarette, then shook him again." WHAT, not only did you shake him once because you were angry (which isn't exactly good parenting) you then smoked which generally relieves stress AND THEN SHOOK HIM AGAIN! The best legal defence I've heard

Video games are unjustly blamed for making people go insane.
But, that's not the case. If it was, then we'd have millions of murders being committed by the hour due to the sheer mass of people who play these so-called games, which now it turns out don't even have to be violent to make people snap...

Although I'll admit that maybe games are partially responsible for bringing out the worst in physiologically challanged people. They're the problem, and if it were someone sane in that situation, they would have either gotton up from their precious farm, or coped with the baby in a different and nonviolent fashion...

I almost feel sorry for that woman, assuming she cared for the baby. There is high chance that maybe she didn't, bringing up the fact that she shouldn't have even had custody of the child in the first place...

That or she was insane, furthering my point.

These stories keep coming up from time to time, and it never gets any easier to stomach.

I have no words. I am ashamed to be a member of the same species this abomination is.

Let this sack of shit rot in a cell for the rest of her life (even that is too good for her, I'm normally not that harsh about people, but she deserves it for what she did. Don't try to blame your actions on a shitty facebook game, how stupid does a person have to be? More fuel for corrupt journalists to use for their anti-game crusades.

This is one of the worst stories I've ever seen on this site, if not the worst.
