Happen to know a woman who shook her baby out of frustration too...nasty thing indeed. Still, she managed to cool herself off with a short stay in the psych ward, got out again, went through all kinds of self-discovery about how her impatience drove her towards it and well...she seems to be doing better as of late. Even starting to be the kind of person I'd like to know.
It can happen all too easily and as the consumer culture grows more and more impatient to 'get their money's worth' I expect it to increase even moreso. And no amount of seething and wishing that this woman gets 'shaken' and beaten in jail for this thing will decrease it from happening even moreso as time goes on. Facing the elements that contribute to such impatience and inability to raise a child (a very painstaking task to be sure), on the other hand, will.
This bit of news however really does make me pose a question to any Escapist reader that might be willing to answer. I am curious...if it meant that this woman managed to avoid her sentence on the grounds of a game 'making her do it', would you be okay with it if it meant that Zynga would, as a direct result of this, begin to collapse?
I am honestly curious which vendetta gamers feel would take precedence. That over a company, which engages in dubious business practices and has become known for many as a mockery of gaming...or against a woman whose impatience drove her into a fatal mistake which she, at this point in time, tries to vainly justify with a defense, that has earned the scorn of most gamers as well?
