This.
What other games have blizzard released since WoW expansions since WoW came out?
To a lot of gamers WoW represents one of oldest and most respected game developers selling out, they have stopped producing new games and seem to be content to charge people top dollar for, what is now, a very dated game.
Don't say they've stopped producing games when both the new Diablo and Starcraft games are under development.

Personally, I'm a WoW-player, but I'm still looking forward more to the new Diablo than I did to Wrath of the Lich King.
They announced both in 2008. There was a good 4 years when there was no non-WoW related project announced.
Seriously?

The RTS team started work on SC2 right after Frozen Throne shipped. Diablo 3 went through no less than THREE revisions after LoD came out before they settled on the one they announced.

Announcement =/= work on a game, especially with a company as perfectionist as Blizzard is.

Simplest answer:

This is life. You can find haters for anything, even more so on the internet. And the bigger the target, the easier it is to find such hate.

You all know this to be true.

I would imagine, making a good game would take time, no? But if people would rather see Blizzard spew out a neverending stream of poor quality games, I guess that's their problem. I'm sure, when SC2 and D3 are released, we'll see why they're taking time to get done.

But clearly, all of us should go back to playing Pong and everyone would be happy.

People didn't know that blizzard was working on other titles. The perception was all they were doing was WoW. I was explaining why people hated wow, not saying that I agree with them.

GW updates of note are about once a month. Skill balancing is still supported and some content for holiday events but no new game content now (though that was never really the model anyway, game content coming through chapters such as Nightfall). Updates were more frequent before work on GW2 started.

I hate having WoW shoved down my throat. I don't hate the game, just it's religious cult warshippers' preachings. We sociopaths don't do well in multiplayers & make terrible guildmates.

I dislike wow for the simple fact that it hinders any real progress of MMORPG genera.

Beyond that i just simply don't care for it because its not all that exciting. You see I'm a relatively busy kinda guy, and i love playing games, so the time i can spend indulging on good games is limited. So if I fill all my "game playing time" with a game like WOW (a very time demanding game)I have to miss out on all the portals, and little big planets of the world.

I see it as a cause and effect situation, and just like Machiavelli " The ends don't justify the means"

The reason why people bash has probably been said quite a lot in here by now, but its just that well, its true it can ruin social lives but its a highly overrated concept, I don't play anymore but I knew maybe one, two people who stayed on 30+ a week. The average is like 3-5 if I can remember right.

So you leveled to level cap AND experienced high level arena + high end raids as a fresh player in four days?

Don't make me laugh. If you were a player of about a year or two and you made a big essay whining about a game, then fair enough. But you have played an MMO for 4 days and claim you've seen it all? Completely false.

And btw, was it on a trial account? Because I'm fairly sure they can't level over 20...

What I'm going to say as probably already been said but...

I played wow for about 3 months. Mostly because me and some friends had a habit of coop play and wanted to try something new in MMORPGS.
And it was fun, its not a bad game.
But, is it a life waster?
I think all MMORPGS are because you are paying to play for X amount of time. If you spend it on something else its like your money being thrown away. For the first two months I had a good time, spending a bit more time than I should playing but it was a new game being played with friends. On the third month I stopped playing. I mean, I played a lot less, spent two weeks without touching the game and I realised, it was money being thrown away.

Its hard to make a point here on what side I want to be, but the fact is, that in a personal opinion there's only one MMORPG that I enjoyed playing and it was GW. WOW just felt like a money waster to me, yes it was fun but lacked the feeling you get when you beat a game and find your journey come to a conclusion.

I bought Hellgate: London and right now I'm going to play Tabula Rasa, because the first one has single player and the second is now free right now so there's no feeling of "I could have bought a lot of ice cream with that money".

In short... if you like the grind pvp and such then maybe MMORPGS are things for you. But some people don't like it, especial when a game like wow is known to turn people into bedroom-dwelling trolls.

Come on guys! there's lots of bridges out there for us to live in!

If a game bored the hell out of me in 3 days (this is how long I managed to play it), why should I assume the rest of it will be better?

my brother was funny yesterday, and he always is playing it, and when we got in a fight that I wasn't into that thing he said: 'Then get a life. I have a life, cause I have a lvl 80 Death knight.' I never stopped laughing.

Endless amounts of grind in a never-ending game? I'm out.
It's not all just grinding. People who make this claim obviously didn't actually delve into the game much.

There are thousands of quests, and a lot of the new ones are really original and fun. (That's not to say that the old ones aren't fun either, they are.)

There's plenty of stuff to do if you're in a good guild. It's even better if you can manage to play with RL friends.

However, like ANY game that requires you to level your character(s), there is going to be SOME form of grinding. It's a trick of balancing it with other things to do. Which, if you know anything about WoW at all, you'd know that there is a good balance of both.

At any rate, if you don't like MMO's, fine. That's totally understandable. And if you like MMO's, that's also fine. People are always going to complain about anything and everything. You can safely bet that whatever they're complaining about, they have a negative experience with it in some way, and therefore they want everyone to agree with them to make themselves more assured in their assumption. Which is okay too. That's life.

I'm neutral on the subject. WoW has some appeal to me from time to time but I'm not an avid player.

This is exactly the one sided stuff I'm getting at. Essentially different games appeal for different reasons to different people.

Personally, I find shooting the same half dozen or so types of zombies over 4 maps to unlock achievements pretty repetitive and more of a grind than wow, but I refuse to judge the game or those that play it with the multitude of offensive superlatives thrown at my game of choice. I think it's partly because I respect others' choices and have no need, or desire to berate someone else for something which is meant to be fun for them. Call me an adult or something.

Damn, I mean even CoD4 (the counterpoint example I choose in this case) has a level cap, achievements and better gear to entice you along and keep you interested. That is essentially wow. The promise of seeing more content with a better player character with better weapons.

And now to amend your quote for this example so that it reflects the above:

Abedeus said:
If *CoD4* bored the hell out of me in 3 days (this is how long I managed to play it), why should I assume the rest of it will be better?
And to answer that as CoD4 player I'd say, You'll miss out on unlocking the tasty weapons, different abilities and achievements. You might also miss the chance to make a new buddy / girlfriend online, and all the social interaction that may stem from that.

Feel free to substitute CoD4 with any game that you don't see everything within a few hours of playing.

A WoW character that has been played for a couple of days will miss similar stuff. Stands to reason, yes?

If you don't like the genre or a game, that's cool, but it's absolutely bewildering that some people dedicate *any* amount of time to talk bigoted nonsense about wow [or players] when it doesn't interest them and shows their lack of complete knowledge on the subject.

Notice I didn't say "teh" once.

You know, I'm on your side, and I want you to be right. Hence my explanation.

More ways of getting bored isn't a solution to boredom.

I love MMOs. I love grind that has sense (Ragnarok Online), because when you get to level 80+ in RO, you can finally PvP on equal ground.

In WoW, you do get to PvP, but the main focus is on PvE.

Also, achievements exist in almost any new game. For people like me, it's a great way to extend the life of a game. It's extremely fun to try and get "Hot on your heels" achievement in Team Fortress 2 or "Lenin a Hand".

But if 3 first days of a game is boring, repetitive grind where you just press 1-2-3 as soon as you get in the range of spell cast, why should I assume I won't do the same thing 70 levels later?

I KNOW I can't change your mind, I'm fine with this. However, what you are describing is basically a single unsocial player in World of Warcraft. The game thrives on all its multiplayer bits (and to be fair, they do allow decent PvP balance by only having 10 levels at a time in there, though I still am not that interested in it) and by playing only single player you will not get to experience that. In 4 days you should be high enough to get to one of the early level dungeons, and that is the thing that really changed the game for me.

Additionally, the whole string of spells/attacks things goes right out the window if you play as a tanking or healing character intended to eat up/undo the enemy's damage. You need a whole different strategy, which to me is another place where the game shines.

However, it all comes down to the fact that if you don't want to play, you don't have to. And it sounds like you don't. Sooo... That's how it goes I guess. Just saying there's a lot more to it than the grind which is all that a lot of people see.

I never said I saw it all. But as long as you've seen a little of everything, that should be enough to convince me of how the rest of the game works. Especially when a lot of the information I had filling in the blanks were from players of the actual game.

A friend of mine played the game for roughly a year and by the end he was so bored of it he told me everything else I needed to know.

He spent the last hour of his account just shouting in Stormwind or whatever that city is called, saying "World of Warcra[ft] sucks". People were telling him to shut up and they were blocking him all over, but through the whole hour he was annoying people, no GM or anyone kicked him off. He just got bored and went offline lol
