I suppose he feels safe enough with more than 500,000 points under his belt that now he can give away his secrets.
I can pretty much tell you his secret.

He has no life.

I look at a gamerscore like an empty pail; easy cheevos are like filling a pail with turds, whereas harder ones like filling it with shiny gems. Sure his pail is fuller, but is it full of gems (Mirror's edge Speed Runs, 100% Ikaruga, other harder achievements) or with turds (Avatar TLAB, King Kong, most sports games, TMNT, etc).

Am I glib for saying it's not the size but what's in it (or how he got them)? I have to wonder how many people contributed to this.

Morale: If you're going to waste time doing something completely useless, endeavour to be the one wasting the most time and doing more of the useless thing than anyone else.

So is Wallace and Gromit any good?

Mines about 5600 but that's because I only really play games that I know I will LOVE. I don't spend that much money on anything substandard (a vow I made after buying ODST).

I admit, I'm surprised his name wasn't something like "xXN00bl3tXxXD3str0y3rXx." Still, I don't really see this as that admirable.

Mr. Stallion83, it looks like you-

*shades*

have achieved nothing.

Either he has a lot of money to burn... or he rents quite a lot. And that's what, 500 games at the LEAST that you'd have to play to get that score?

I just hate achievements and gamerscore, it just turns people into a bunch of mindless morons screaming "Look at my score, I'm so epic and 1337!" I'd much rather play games for fun and dicking about purposes.
I am in absolute agreement. Achievements are not something I focus on because I want to play the game for MY goals and what I want to get out of it, not what the developer throws in for "points". I don't need to whip out my e-peen to feel like gaming is worth my while.

Show us your Guinness World Record, or maybe you have an Oscar, or Noble Prize show us, in fact all of you calming he has achieved nothing show us what you have achieved. You all must have some Guinness World Record which you will be remembered for right?

Something
My sentiments exactly.

While he has certainly achieved...I'm not sure what it is. I for one would not want to spend nearly the amount of time that hes had to put into that score.

I sense someone's a little butthurt.

First of all, it's the Nobel Prize, not the Noble Prize. My inner Grammar Nazi minored in Spelling in Nazi Schoolen, and don't you forget it.

Second, when did I say I achieved anything? You have to achieve something significant to be able to determine if someone else achieved something significant? If that's the case, then what have you achieved that gave you a right to describe this as an achievement?

My comment was partially jocular, because he did achieve something, but that something was not significant. It contributed nothing to the world. It proved nothing of human potential. Also, I highly doubt anyone's really going to remember this guy one year from now.

By the way, are you placing the Guinness World Record on the same level of achievement as the Nobel Prize? I doubt that you are, but I want to be certain.

EDIT'd for spelling errors. Damn typos.

Wow, that is a lot of Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.
Oh wait... only some people buy that in as many languages as possible to get gamerscore >.>
Pah, I gave up with gamerscore long ago, after I started buying more games for my best friend than myself >.>
Gamerscore's kinda fun. I like getting Achievements, and I like seeing my Gamerscore go up. But there is a point where it just goes from "fun" to "silly," and then to "freaking insane."

Buying three or more copies of a game in different regions just to get easy Achievements is in the last category.

But hey, it's his money.

So he paid microsoft to give him not even a piece of paper with a meaningless number on it, but merely the digital image of said number? Boy, you got ripped off.
He did what now?

Where in the article does it refer to anything you are talking about?
A Gamerscore is a number. Numbers are important in out daily life, because they generally have some meaning attached to it. Gamerscore has no said meaning, besides "I have played (payed) many games." (Games that Microsoft generally can excepted to earn money with).

With many numbers in reallife, people often complain about them being meaningless. Like money just being pieces of paper, with said numbers on it. Or a school degress, just being another piece of paper.

The irony in this so called achievement lies within the fact that didn't even get the paper. All he got was the arbitrary number on some computer that will lose all it's fictive value or meaning the second Microsoft decides to shut down it's X-box support. Or decides to ban him for some reason.

Can you understand that now?

Edit: Something I should ad. Other numbers from our life, like money, earn their value and meaning by the trust, people put into it. Same can be said by gamerscore. It ist of some sentimental value to people, who "believe" in it's value. The only problem here is, that you have microsoft, who are able to pull the plug anytime they want. Money on the other hand will always be worth what anyone will give you for it, even in the worst scenarios, like a nuclear holocaust, because it only depends on people believe.

The only measure of someone's achievement, if it can be at all measured, is whether they affected people. This man, has affected more people than you ever will*. Interpret that as you wish.

*I mean, I don't know who you are, but probably.
