You know, I would contribute another name, but all of the main ones on my metaphorical bingo board were already hit. Bravo Escapist, you make me proud.

That overated crap Ghost In the Shell has a stupid bimbo robot taking her clothes off to work. I saw that, then said, FTS! and left the video.
Except in Ghost in the Shell (the movie) it's not sexualized at all. There's nudity, yes, but it's not for the sake of titillation. It's actually very sterilzed and cold. Kind of like a mannequin or robot.
In the film, at least. In SAC, it was really jarring to see the Major wandering around the office without pants on. And no, I don't buy the excuse that in the future, nobody really cares about modesty standards in cybernetic bodies. She's the only one who really does it, and there is no reason other than to show off her legs. It also doesn't help that her tactical armor looks way better.
Still better than inexplicit peadophilia. It was like Kojima wrote that episode...

But I have to agree with you. The leotard was the one strike I had against SAC, and luckily the Major wore other, more suitable clothing.

I guess this term, "fan service" usually applies to Anime and I think the worst offender is Najica. The only bit of Najica I have seen was a fight scene where dozens of identical placeholder girls in schoolgirl outfits kept getting knocked down in the most contrived way to give as many close-up panty shots as possible.

Outside Anime, I'll give it to True Blood. A recent episode opened with a steamy sex scene between two of the more attractive male leads. It turned out to be a dream (not that that wasn't completely obvious from the outset), added nothing to the plot and was clearly just there to please the fans who've probably been shipping these two for years. I don't begrudge them that, it's a really stupid show and why not have some fun in the last season. Apparently the actors (Ryan Kwanten and Alexsander Skaarsgard) were only given the direction: "You have a sex scene together. Go." and what they came up with was pretty excellent (though as a straight dude I found it more amusing than erotic).

The worst examples of fanservice is when fanservice actually GETS IN THE WAY of what otherwise could have been a great story e.g. Highschool Of The Dead. It's when you expected something interesting and amazing but ended up being disappointed by too much fanservice that made no sense and felt out of place.
It is NOT when you knowingly walk into something that is obviously built ground-up around fanservice and then express surprise when that's exactly what it turns out to be. Accusing fanservice-driven manga/anime for having too much fanservice makes no sense, especially ones that aren't even trying to hide it (e.g. Sekirei, Queen's Blade, etc). That's like accusing gnomes of being too short, or water of being too wet. Or for a more relevant example, walking into a strip club and then complaining about the naked women.

But when I saw this [http://www.mangareader.net/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi/574] today when I checked out the new chapter out of morbid curiosity, I knew I couldn't hold it in anymore. I mean Jesus Christ, even the dumbest, horniest, most stereotypical 13-year old shounen target audience member would be insulted by that image, not to even mention what follows when you read the chapter onward. In fact that chapter is on the meeker side when compared to something like this [http://www.mangareader.net/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi/564/3]. HEY AUTHOR, I DON'T THINK HER TITS ARE BIG ENOUGH! WHY DON'T YOU MAKE THEM THE SIZE OF TRACTOR TIRES!
I'm probably missing something here regarding History's Strongest Disciple (I haven't read it), but just looking at the front cover:

And quickly glancing over the VERY FIRST CHAPTER reveals that it's full of panty-shots, leg shots, tiny skirts, exaggerated tits/ass and pretty much all the other signs of a fanservice-heavy manga/anime.

So it seems a bit weird for someone to break the door down at the 500th chapter saying "omg fanservice!". How did you even make it past the first chapter??

Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC

It's not sexualized like almost everything else shown here but it is still blatant fan service. Cheesy plot, all your favourite characters, lots of jokes (many of which break the fourth wall), all around silliness, you even host a party for everyone!. Yeah it was pretty awesome. Made purely for the fans.

The Citadel DLC is fanservice (and DLC) done perfectly: I fucking loved everything about it, from the Normandy's crew arguing the merits of the Hammerhead vs the Mako, to the NPCs on the Silver Strip complaining about problems you find in multiplayer, like the godawful random rewards system (NPC to supply officer: "You're the reason we're losing this war.").

OT

Sucker Punch: Yeah yeah, gratuitous panty and cleavage shots - get out of the fucking way, you're blocking the steampunk Reichswehr zombies!

Also F.E.A.R 2: It's not particularly offensive, but it is quite noticeable how the entire squad is fully armoured bar the single female character, who just has a sleeveless shirt and flak vest that exposes her midriff.
She is bad in Fear 2. She's out of place.
And it's especially bad, when all the other females, apart from adult Alma, are fully dressed.

That said, the rest of the squad is not well dressed, either. It's just they have a bit more on, so you don't notice as much. They are all wearing tshirts under flak jackets. It's just the males have long tshirsts, not too short ones.
If memory serves, she was only assigned to the squad as an expendable communications specialist through shenanigans on Armacham's part, in order to better realize their psychic experiments, which could serve as a good handwave for why she's comparatively under-dressed. But even then you'd think her superiors would say something about the dress code.

Yah! Another chance to share the "not technically porn but you probably shouldn't watch this on your work computer and you'll feel a little dirty right afterwards" video!

Yeah...that just happened. The entire show is basically that. It's actually a really cool idea for a show but I feel like it's doing a disservice to itself with all the freaking fan service in it. I can't really recommend this show to...well....anyone really unless I know them well enough that they know I'm not watching this show all day with my pants off...
Everything about that scene is stupid. Even IF you ignore the blatant fanservice.

First of all, why the hell did he need to pin that girl to the ground to use the gun? I get that it's tied to her, but even IF he didn't want to take the time to remove it (which probably would have taken all of 5 seconds), why did he need to be on top of her to use it? Why not next to her?

Second, that guy can't shoot for crap. I'm willing to concede that firing a gun is more difficult that it appears to be, but if you're CONSTANTLY firing over the head of your target, AIM LOWER, you jackass.

Third, why in the FUCK is he aiming his shots directly AT the other girl? Bear in mind, we've already established that this guy has horrendous aim. So he has to be SPECIFICALLY aiming the other girl when he's firing, since he can't possibly be good enough to aim those shots to miss her like that. And while we're on that subject, why is she just LETTING herself be shot at? She HAS to notice all those bullets flying past her. I know I personally would say something like "Hey, stop shooting at me you jackass!".

And fourth, that last bit where the bullet goes between her boobs? That is not how bullets work. Or how boobs work. That girl has four bloody holes in her breasts. Period.

OT: Yeah, I have to go with HSOTD too. I couldn't even finish that show, partly because of the ridiculous fanservice. And frankly, fanservice doesn't bother me, but it was EXTREMELY distracting in this instance.

Yes, he gets his head split open by his own sword, but Jubei was only decorative in that fight. The guy's whole body (which Jubei was unable to scratch) starts falling apart because of the poison he absorbed by trying to rape Kagero. Jubei really only distracts him long enough for the poison to kick in, and he's as surprised as the rock guy is (though probably in less pain).

At any rate, my issue here was with "just walk right up and kill the guy, to prove he's a badass". Jubei gets his own arse handed to him and really only helps finish the guy off.
When you think about it, Jubei gets his ass handed to him quite regularly, and there's actually very few of the main baddies that he kills by himself.

- Tessai almost murders the shit out of him untill Kagero's poison finally takes effect.
- Benisato nearly kills Jubei at the hotsprings, but Dakuan interferes.
- Jubei again gets punked by Benisato at the shrine, but is saved by Kagero. Benisato inturn then dies due to one of Yurimaru's wires.
- And Yurimaru would've likely killed Jubei had Zakuro not sent in that rat suicide bomber.

I think the only ones he kills completely on his own are Shijima and Genma.

I browsed through the first chapter again to make sure, and to me the fanservice wasn't as blatant or noticeable as in the post-500 chapters I've checked out a couple of, or in the first chapters any other garbage shounen series I've checked out. I mean compare the first chapter to this page where a female character's ass literally takes up about a fifth of the entire page [http://www.mangareader.net/historys-strongest-disciple-kenichi/565/3]. Yeah, even the first chapter is obviously chock-full of fanservice, but compared to the chapters today it looks like it was made by 85-year old nuns.

I don't really mind cheese/beefcake too much. A little bit of male/female gaze attraction isn't anything to get upset about.

On the other end of the spectrum I have no real problem with gratuitous sleazy exploitation either. I may not be a big fan of High School of the Dead but I can't really get annoyed at it for knowing exactly what it is. (A burlesque show of gratuitous sex, violence and Id pandering.)

What tends to get on my nerves though is a show that tries to walk a line and just ends up writing a flimsy excuse to deliver the fanservice.

I started watching Sekirei on Netflix the other day, made it to the 3rd or 4th episode before I just couldn't deal with it anymore.

For the unfamiliar Sekirei is about a random anime protagonist who finds himself inexplicably the center of attention of a race of magical girls with huge tits who "comically" have a hard time grasping the idea of modesty...that's it.

That's a good point. If anything, I still think Jubei's a badass, but more because he survived than because it was easy.
The only one he seemed to defeat with any semblance of ease would be Reizo, the bee guy. After that there's really only faceless grunts and those mercs at the beginning.

It's been mentioned a lot.

I found Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture full of clumsy fanservice, of both kinds. Every cameo from Fatal Fury characters who weren't the power trio was forced and completely unnecessary. Their contributions to the plot (if any) were virtually irrelevant. Any generic character could have been used and achieved the same effect.

Mai and Panni are forever half-dressed. That's the fault of both the characters and the director; you get the feeling Masami Obari really wants to do porn (he directed Angel Blade and Viper GTS).

an adult acting that way is stupid and it makes her unlikeable (Same with Rob Stark)

So there's my example of bad fanservice dragging a show's quality down.
Actually, an adult who was royalty and raised as such until she and her brother fled the country acting like that is pretty believable. She's got the royal sense of entitlement, but none of the actual experience to lead. I'm not sure what's stupid about that.
