Not the "worst" sequel, in fact its a really amazing game, but I'd say Freespace 2 was so damn amazing that it practically killed the entire genre of space-combat games.
With regard to this Freespace 2 isnt considered bad because it is bad (it isnt), its considered bad because of its poor horrible sale rate. It told the industry that the majority of gamers didnt want games like the Freespace anymore, so most of the developers packed up and left the genre.
Interesting. And now my rebuttle:

Why are we using quotes stolen from an old early 80's foreign movie called "Rage War"?

And as for it... Skyrim.

It hasn't come out yet.. and from screenshots, their bragging points, etc.. I can tell Bethesda has fully given up, said "Fudge it! Lets just rape our own lore and bring the dragons back AND make them bad guys" genirced out the world, and made Gothic 6: Skyrim.

Knights of the Old Republic 2

Three reasons I hated it

1. Holy shit, the beginning mission. I mean. Goddamn. It took like five hours to get off of a fucking space ship. Probably the most boring opening mission ever, but it was like my headache went away when I finally left.

2. What? The next part is even worse. From what I remember, it was some dark Corasaunt type planet, but it was boring. Jesus, by the third hour in the first one it had some serious steam. You had a lightsaber, and you could use the force. Incredible.

3. Re-using some of the original characters. They had the mercenary with white hair, and that little service droid. Come on. That's so unoriginal. Use your own characters.
ill give you #1... i tried playing the game again like a year ago and couldnt remember how to leave the first ROOM. and i recall just how insanely difficult it is to leave that ship.

but i liked the rest of the game. still wasnt nearly as good as the first one, though
Honestly, what was worse, those Fallout 1 and 2 losers-er... I mean Obsidian, made that AND NWN2, two games where they both pull "All your friends died, enjoy!" in KoToR II they effin kill ALL your favorite characters OFF SCREEN. OFF BLOODY SCREEN. in NWN 2 (Yet another bioware game Obsidian ruined... Realizing a pattern here with them and ruining other companies franchise's/games ?) you end the game with "Rocks fall on your party and you all are buried and killed. THE END!

I'm pretty sure you can skip the whole escaping the ship part of kotor 2. I remember I liked certain parts of that game better, and the general updating of the game mechanics were good, but the story was just weird to me.

Modern Warfare 2, in my opinion, it was horrifically handled for several reasons;
1) Campaign lacks the same immersion; sure it looks pretty, but I really disliked the plot; it lacked the plot twists of CoD4 (come on, Shepard was way too obvious; he looks and sounds evil) and skipped around too much.
2) Multiplayer was as unbalanced.
3) Spec Ops was really badly handled; there was a lot of potential in it, but they copy-pasted far too many maps. Plus it could have easily been 4-player.
4) Most of my other reasons can be found here, in this rather humorous video -

Edit: Also every Pokemon game since the series moved onto the DS: I don't know why, but they just don't feel right anymore, plus I hate the DS's shape because it makes my hands stiff.

Final Fantasy 12- This game is basically an MMO that decided at the last minute that it wanted to be an offline RPG: The two lead characters are so bad they make me wish i was playing as Tidus (And he's on my list of most Despised characters ever, so that's pretty damned bad) with neither of them having absolutely no fucking motivation for sticking around with the party to fulfill the main quest (Every other party member had a reason or motivation for carrying through with the main quest, Vaan and panello just seemed to tag along for no reason other then the fact they got bored), the setting is completely uninspiring and bland, the plot is...dull to say the least as is the lead antagonist, the combat seems more like a fucking MMO then a Final Fantasy game.

Overall: It had some positive points, but the negatives let it down to the point i couldn't even finish it.

Every Silent Hill game after The Room. Even The Room itself is debatable.
I really enjoyed the room, it provided a what most sequels need, a change from the previous game. I'd probably view it as 'meh' if I was playing through another game like 2 or 3 just because it showed they were afraid of new ideas.

The backtracking is bad sure, but The Room itself was a genious concept. It gives you a place that acts as a safe haven for you when you're scared, albeit a claustrophobic and creepily silent one, then the game turns it on its head as the game worlds bleed into the apartment via the hauntings.
/endrant :3

On topic: The worst sequel I have played was probably Far Cry 2. I didn't know about crysis at this point (mainly a console gamer until recently), so when I bought it I was expecting an actual sequel to the first game. I was expecting another action packed adventure against mutants and stuff, instead I found myself playing a very dull, very brown fps with added malaria.

The dark side, "you fly away from the planet ending" was worse for me.

I'm not one to jump onto bandwagons, but having finished Dragon Age 2 about an hour ago I have to say it was the worst gaming experience I've had for years. Sure, Origins had it's flaws and to be honest I've never really liked the gameplay, but still it managed to keep me interested for well over 50 hours. DA2 not only failed to keep me interested, it actually made me feel more and more unentertained and at certain points (Anders, I'm looking at you) just outright annoyed.
A-fucking-men.

I've heard a lot of people saying its the shift in gameplay that is DA2's deal breaker, but to be honest, the lack of character development and the godawful plot ruined it for me.

A Grand Theft Auto styled RPG could work (set in one city, building your reputation and funds etc) but this was simply not how to go about it. There's little overhanging story- in fact, the main conflict at the end of the game is little more than a footnote through the early parts and is tied to the earlier part of the game so clumsily, I nearly stopped right at the final battle.

As for Anders.... well... how absurd do you think that fucking plot element would've been if Hawke had been in a relationship with him for 3 years, and was living with him?
It all hinges on the game banning you from asking what the fuck he doing.

You just might be the only person in the world who cares about Pre-Morrowind Elder Scrolls lore.

On topic: I was going to say Mass Effect 2, and something about how dumb the Collectors were, but some of these other candidates made me put things in perspective...

Deus Ex: Invisible war - "Shifted more to action-gameplay" my ass, it was just horrid, from the pointless level-design, over the dumbed-down and nonsensical "decisions", to the 20 bazillions of loading screens and the utter violation of the story of the original.

Kotor 2: My thoughts while playing (in no particular order): Okay, here I am. What am I doing here? Whoa, got a lightsaber already? Wait, wasn't I supposed to be in a hurry? Who's that guy? Guess I know him, if he tells me so. Did I miss something? Nope, guess I'm supposed to be clueless. How did she by the way follow me? What the hell is going on and why should I even care? WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FACE? (<- slightly related Plinkett-reference, should you wonder)

Every Call of duty, Battlefield and Medal of honor ever made since the 2nd part. Yes, you can tell me all things about graphical and gameplay-improvements all you like but for the love of god, if a gaming franchise starts to resemble a James Bond-movie-collection minus the changing protagonists to be able at least at a minor level to distinguish the several parts, it kinda loses all meaning.

And just because I found it amusing that so far it's the only game named here, were people immediately jump up and defend it (poorly, as I may say):
DA2: Didn't play it, but mainly because everything I saw, heard and knew about it smelled SO MUCH like EA, I decided that I love my money more.

Having just completed it myself, I had the exact opposite experience in regard to story and characters. And my Hawke was in a relationship with Anders, and I thought it made that plot element better. I saw as speaking to the depth of his convictions and slipping moral compass.

The twist before the final battle was dumb though. I agree with that.

This game is so curiously polarizing.
