I'm not one to jump onto bandwagons, but having finished Dragon Age 2 about an hour ago I have to say it was the worst gaming experience I've had for years. Sure, Origins had it's flaws and to be honest I've never really liked the gameplay, but still it managed to keep me interested for well over 50 hours. DA2 not only failed to keep me interested, it actually made me feel more and more unentertained and at certain points (Anders, I'm looking at you) just outright annoyed.
Don't worry! It's worth it in the end because you can
[HEADING=1]MURDER HIM!!!!111!!!1!!!one!!!!111![/HEADING]
tell him how annoyed you are with him and try to resolve your problems diplomatically.

Knights of the Old Republic 2

Three reasons I hated it

1. Holy shit, the beginning mission. I mean. Goddamn. It took like five hours to get off of a fucking space ship. Probably the most boring opening mission ever, but it was like my headache went away when I finally left.

2. What? The next part is even worse. From what I remember, it was some dark Corasaunt type planet, but it was boring. Jesus, by the third hour in the first one it had some serious steam. You had a lightsaber, and you could use the force. Incredible.

3. Re-using some of the original characters. They had the mercenary with white hair, and that little service droid. Come on. That's so unoriginal. Use your own characters.
ill give you #1... i tried playing the game again like a year ago and couldnt remember how to leave the first ROOM. and i recall just how insanely difficult it is to leave that ship.

but i liked the rest of the game. still wasnt nearly as good as the first one, though
Peragus... that place still gives me nightmares. Stuck on that deserted rock with the evil *****, a whiny carth clone and a murderous droid with no personality. Ye gods above, I've never played a worse starting mission. That said, the rest of the game was kind of enjoyable, if not up to the standards of the first one.

I'm pretty sure you can skip the whole escaping the ship part of kotor 2. I remember I liked certain parts of that game better, and the general updating of the game mechanics were good, but the story was just weird to me.
You can, but I think he means the space station on the asteroid after.

Red Faction 2.

My argument is unbeatable. Granted, The first Red Faction had mixed reviews, but was truly a great game both multi and single player in my eyes. Hell, if Gordon Freeman was in it, the blind reviewer masses had given it a solid 100.

But Red Faction 2 is probably the worst pile of steaming manure I've ever touched. Except Call of Duty 5.

But IMO, Call of Duty Modern Warfare was the only good CoD game, so I can't use CoD 5 as my choice in this discussion - although I really, really want to.
CoD 2 was pretty damned fun, and imo, still better than the rest of the series :p

Having just completed it myself, I had the exact opposite experience in regard to story and characters. And my Hawke was in a relationship with Anders, and I thought it made that plot element better. I saw as speaking to the depth of his convictions and slipping moral compass.

The twist before the final battle was dumb though. I agree with that.

This game is so curiously polarizing.[/quote]

Fair enough if that was your experience, but I can't relate to it myself. Personally I found the only real change in Anders was that the other characters, like Varric, perceived him as being grumpier- in my own dialogue with him, he didn't really change much- I certainly didn't feel there was a sense in "decline" that was leading towards the end.

I think the thing about being in a relationship with Anders, is that Hawke is supposed to be emotionally invested in his condition- after you complete his final side-quest, there is zero follow-up, which simply would not happen. This means that its literally a dialogue failing that makes his actions at the end of the game possible.

My husband tells me that by not following the romance options in that dialogue that you can confront Anders about what he's doing- his response is just to say "tough, you have to help me and I won't tell you why".

Quite frankly, I couldn't side with Sebastian quick enough.

NUTS & BOLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rape my childhood will you? AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

I WANT A PROPER EFFING SEQUEL!

It's a completely different game with Banjo's face on it. Kazooie was pretty much non existent. The opening cutscene was kinda funny but then it goes straight to crap. It's an auto-mechanical creativity toy masquerading as a Rare platformer. *RAGE RAGE RAGE*

If it wasn't associated with banjo-kazooie I probably wouldn't hate it nearly as much.

Wow, blinded by the originality here guys! Other M? Dragon Age 2? I could never have seen those responses coming! Some serious thought and consideration was put into those answers. Oh, and Final Fantasy XIII, This is totally the first time I've heard someone say they didn't like that game!

But what's up with the people who said Dawn of War 2? It introduced an interesting leveling and wargear system that added a lot of depth to the game. It made you actually use units strategically where you could just power through the first game with the strongest units. Is it a multiplayer thing? The only multiplayer I played was The Last Stand, which is awesome, and the campaign mode was very different, but very good.

Devil may cry 2. Never played it but apparently it was so bad the PRODUCERS THEMSELVES decided to agree it never happened. So for those keeping up, the order is 3 (prequel) -> 1 -> 4. And now they're rebooting the whole thing because this wasn't weird enough yet.

final fantasy x-2. What a tragedy. The class system was actually really fun but the story... I never had any trouble with tidus' infamous laughing scene at luca in ffx but the cutscenes in ffx2 made me wonder if I somehow stumbled into a charlie's angels movie. Square-enix clearly also tried all sorts of mini games and odd ideas in this game and while I applaud their courage a lot of it just didn't work. Especially the chapter system. Also: getting 100% completion, or even the good ending for that matter, required you to find and do loads of tedious stuff (the commspheres, oh god those bloody commspheres). Rewarding exploration and experimentation is good and all but some of it was so arbitrary you could easily finish the game 50 times and still miss it. Hell even with a walkthrough you can still easily lose all chance of 100%. I could go on for pages on how this game could've been amazing with some changes but I already wrote way more than anyone is actually gonna read :S

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. Took everything about the first game (which was already "love-it-or-hate-it"), and screwed it up.

Kane and Lynch 2. See above.

Bomberman Act Zero. The second worst attempt to bring a franchise into the next gen. It made a hideous character design, terrible gameplay, and was what ammounted to just one giant middle finger to anyone who ever liked Bomberman (like me). And it's thanks to that game you never see Bomberman anymore...

Sonic 06. The WORST attempt to bring a franchise into the next gen. This game has become infamous, and for good reason. Terrible control, a story that even the lowest grade PS1 era JRPG blush with shame, and basically going to everyone who was willing to give Sonic Team a second chance after the horrid Shadow the Hedgehog "Yeah, we don't fucking care anymore...".

Other M. I think the worst part is that the issues I have with the story could be fixed with a few minor changes.

Dragon Age II springs to mind, I haven't played either but apparently people won't stop going on about it.
What? Dragonage II is brilliant! Characters have a deeper persona and better, more realistic interaction with eachother. Combat is fluent, without mayor delay. The classes have been balanced quite well since the first game and the story have much smaller, and less, holes than the story of the warden! The game is intriguing, and while it lacks something for being the middle child, it only adds to the feeling of the concept.

However every Sonicgame since they went for 3D is horrible.

Probably Mercenaries 2 as the first one was really good and the sequel was 1/4 of the length and the whole game was centred around getting a missile to blow open a door

Halo ODST, and in fact Halo 3 and Reach as well as they were just generic, cut-copy-pasted versions of the first two with originality right out the window.

Every Silent Hill game after The Room. Even The Room itself is debatable.
I really enjoyed the room, it provided a what most sequels need, a change from the previous game. I'd probably view it as 'meh' if I was playing through another game like 2 or 3 just because it showed they were afraid of new ideas.

The backtracking is bad sure, but The Room itself was a genious concept. It gives you a place that acts as a safe haven for you when you're scared, albeit a claustrophobic and creepily silent one, then the game turns it on its head as the game worlds bleed into the apartment via the hauntings.
/endrant :3

On topic: The worst sequel I have played was probably Far Cry 2. I didn't know about crysis at this point (mainly a console gamer until recently), so when I bought it I was expecting an actual sequel to the first game. I was expecting another action packed adventure against mutants and stuff, instead I found myself playing a very dull, very brown fps with added malaria.
Oh, I enjoyed it too. Particularly the moment when the hole closes off, to which your first reaction is "But I WANT to go back to the horrible nightmare world!" And then you realize the joke that's just been played on you.

But I don't think it should have been called a Silent Hill game.

My opinion on the whole series: "Oh, Silent Hill? That was a good trilogy. The creators made another game called The Room too, which is pretty interesting. Too bad there were no more games in the series."

Now I understand. Similar to my criticism of Far Cry 2, it would work better if it wasn't tied to games it didn't really relate to.
