lets see, i refuse to say a game is shit due to person opinion so... heres what i reckon, and the reason.

Brink. we were promised so much more then we got. it was laggy, it was a little unbalanced, and there was about half as much content as the previous game by them Quake Wars.

DNF. yay tits. now im going to go sell it. multiplayer wasnt too immersive, and since i hadnt played the original DNs i got no nostalgia from the actually rather short and easy singleplayer.

Bodycount. I havent even played the full game, but the demo told me enough about the spastic controls. shame the guys who made black seem to have gone downhill here :(

Mound and Blade: Fire and Sword (think came out this year), so much taken away just for a gun.
Yeah, I was pretty disappointed in that game as well. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible but they took out a lot of the things that made Mount & Blade special with that game. And honestly, the guns were more of a nuisance more than anything.

I'm extremely tempted to say Duke Nukem Forever because of how it inevitably ended up being just another FPS that added fuck-all to the industry.

Red Orchestra 2 gets a special mention for having a singleplayer campaign so buggy it wouldn't even advance past the artillery tutorial for the first week when I bought it. And of course being cover-based and void of multiplayer classes (they only dictate what weapons you have, not if you get to be a medic).

Isn't that three disappointments?

Or are two of these considered only half-games (which is pretty spot on digging at the current state of the games industry-what, no disappointing DLC, CryTek? Don't worry, EA will show you how.)

Well, I can only comment on the games I've played personally and since none of them have been horribly broken It's really going to be most disappointing games. I'd give it to either Alice: madness returns or Hunted: the demons forge. I honestly don't know what I was expecting with these games but what I got certainly wasn't it.

Wow, I'm glad I've never touched any of these games yet. I'll have to go with Yahtzee and put my vote on for MindJack, but also Duke Nukem Forever for being quite possibly the biggest letdown in the history of gaming. (13 years and they ruin Duke, apparently)

Duke Nukem was the only genuinely bad game I played this year.

Red Faction Armageddon wasn't bad as such, but it was vastly inferior to Guerilla.
I agree with both these statements.

On top of that there's Brink. I raged over the game because I should have been enjoying it, but the immensely bad AI and crappy online play made me very sad. Splash Damage have a lot to answer for, but I'd rather just move on.

Now it's up to me to review the review. Or something like that.
The overall style seems like something Yahtzee would say if he still did those fake award things with really fucked up names. And was also drunk. And high. On glue.
The actual 'awards' seem weird, because uh...how do I explain this? OK, for example Duke Nukem Forever. It's listed in multiple categories and that makes you contradict yourselves. So apparently it's both a turd under a turd and a turd under a diamond and a turd under a turd UNDER a turd and the Carebears raped Ronald McDonald and etc etc.
The choice of games seems awkward as well, like for example(again) Duke Nukem Forever. I mean, it wasn't good but it wasn't exactly terrible either. It was just bland and forgetable. Atleast it wasn't anything like that Kane & Lynch 2 shit that still gives me nightmares.

My personal list of WORST GAMES OF 2011:

No.5: Saints Row: The Third
No.4: Saints Row: The Third
No.3: Saints Row: The Third
No.2: Saints Row: The Third
No.1: Skyri-nah just kiddin', actually it's Saints Row: The Third.

The SR series have been infamous for copying the GTA sandbox-crime-and-stuff-thingy style, but some people actually liked Saints Row 2 for filling in the supposed 'gap' that GTA IV left because instead of being unrealisticaly fun(like San Andreas) it decided to be more 'realistic'. I do like GTA IV though, if you ask me. Much better than SR2.

My personal list of BEST GAMES OF 2011(not in any particular order):

L.A. Noire, Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City,...does Minecraft count?

Hmm. According to the list I keep handy, these are the worst three games I've p[layed this year:

Rage - I was all set to like Rage. I've loved the majority of id's output, and what they were saying about the game had me excited. But in truth, I found it boring. They had all this great technology, but didn't build an interesting world with it. They claim they had a writer on board, but the plot was a poorly paced mess and the ending was a massive plot hole. The 'open world driving' was only there to funnel the player from one shooty corridor level to the next. Disappointing, at best.

Bulletstorm - While I appreciate the humour of Bulletstorm, juvenile as it is, it wasn't enough to save this game from mediocrity. Points for effort in trying to make a shooter that does something different to the norm, but when it's easier to play as a normal shooter, just popping off headshots, your balance testing has failed. I tried to get into the spirit, but the skill shots just kept putting me at moree risk, reendering them ultimately pointless.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Oh dear, the controversial one. If I want a cinematic experience, I'll go to the cinema. When I play games, I expect to play. Ever go to a friend's house and have him excitedly shove his wonderful toys in your face screaming "Look at this! No, wait, look at that!"? That's what Uncharted 3 felt like. Rather than being in control of the game, I was funneled/dragged through various 'exciting' cinematic sequences, with the game autocorrecting my jumps, so I wouldn't die and have to wait a little longer to see its next toy. Combined with a short story, with nearly as many plot holes as Rage, and it led to a game experience that was middling, not worthy of all the accolades it received.

I love people on this thread. Most people are like SKYRIM and MW3 or BATTLEFIELD.

And i shant deny its FINE to say these games dont appeal to you. But the WORST game of the year? You mean if someone made a game this year called "lets paint with human waste" it would STILL be the WORST game of the year? What we are actually debating is, whats the worst of the huge releases. Lets at least get that right.
I'm honestly scrolling down waiting to find someone claim one of those games are terrible, but no one has really claimed any of those yet.

Now going off this, the worst game that I actually invested some time in that was a big release would probably be LA Noire. I played the entire game before realizing that I really didn't like it.
That wasnt sarcasm... i honestly love people on this thread for not stating those as the worst game of all time. When thats just factually wrong.
I'm well aware that wasn't sarcasm (unless I'm not reading this correctly, which may be the case), I'm agreeing with you.

I think I should have added that I believe the proper title would be "Big Blockbuster Game disappointment of 2011", because that's what everyone is going to answer with. Mine was LA Noire. By no means a terrible game, it just wasn't that good.

However many hours of driving to different positions and rather broken and unimaginative detective mini-games. It made me appreciate the rift between games and cinema.
La Noire was the biggest disappointment of the year for me.

I thought it was going to be fantastic, but it was just average, and it took me ten hours of play time to realise this.

XIII-2, then.

What? It's gonna be released in Japan on December 15 of this year, it counts!
Hey, I'm not going to argue as I haven't even played it yet. I may end up getting it for my sister for Xmas, though.

But the formula is going to be vastly improved!

I nominate Call of Juarez: The Cartel

Judging from the Extra Credits and the Giant Bomb Quick Look, this game is probably the Kane & Lynch 2 Dog Days of this year. Ugly graphics, terrible shooting, cutscenes while you're getting beat up, sloppy subtitles, unfinished menus (seriously, look it up), plus the alleged disinformation about Mexico.

The demos for DNF (pretty bad) and Bodycount (flackung horrendous) were the worst things I actually played this year.

Brink... oh lord, Brink.

On paper it was meant to be the game that would finally punch Infinity Ward in the face and tell them what a REAL FPS was meant to be like. Unfortunately Splash Damage seemed to have forgotten what they were doing since they announced the game and sat on their arses until they released an unfinished mess that barely resembled the masterpiece it was meant to be.

However I'd still recommend it more than MW3. The game industry has apparently forgot what the word innovation means.

My worst game of the year? Definately Dungeon Siege 2.
I assume you meant 3 ;) I really liked DS3 personally, although it is very different from the others and I can see why some people can't stand it. A lot more streamlined than the others so you don't have to worry about a massive party or inventory management, I personally thought it worked.

For me it'd be the Playstation Move party game pack. I didn't look that closely at what I was buying, thought I was getting the PS3 version of Wii Sports. I guess it could be fun if you were about 12 and were having some friends over but I wanted the sports one... :(

Know it hasn't been released yet, but I've played SW:TOR beta, just a rip off everything memorable from the movies (new and old) like ship and character designs. Few original ideas have been implemented; they are even push the "loving someone will lead to the dark side" angle, kind of surprised I didn't hear midichlorians (?) or a Jar Jar rip off in there.
Honestly, that's all they're allowed to do. LucasArts gets really, really fussy when people try to add anything that George didn't already do first. And just like with most Bioware games, the premise isn't all that original and the gameplay is weak, but it's the details that set it apart. (In this case, I think it's one of their weakest games that still settles in at "above average," unlike Dragon Age 2. And some of the class storylines--Imperial Agent and Trooper--are superb, while others--Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular--are dreadful.)

On topic: I haven't played many games this year but of the ones I have, I'd say Dragon Age 2.

Also, your friend needs to understand that adding dirty words doesn't add instant funny. That blog made me cringe.

Mass Effect 2
The Witcher 2
Battlefield 3

They're all pretty bad, but at least I was able to struggle through the QTE that is BF3. I was bored of ME2 by the 3rd mission, and just said "no" when I stumbled and missteped my way to the first ridiculous button-mashing mini-game in TW2.

I tend to not buy games that I know will be bad, but I did play the demo of Dragon Age 2, and it was even worse than the first one, which is saying A LOT.

As for Homefront, Brink, Red Faction Armageddon, and Duke Nukem Forever, I loved all those, especially the last two.
