Worst level in a good game.

Yeah, but that wasn't the most frustrating level in that game for me. For me it was the level where you had to capture and defend some building in the middle of the snow. For some reason that level was always a pain for me.
The reason why I remember that level specifically was because it autosaved a second before I died as I was zoomed in on a sniper rifle so every time I loaded it I was zoomed in on a sniper rifle and then died. Took me about 15 minutes to get past that one spot.

I recall the second mission the Saints Row 2 'Corporate Warfare' DLC. The first half of it was you and about ten rent-a-cops against about 200 gents in heavy body armor equipped with assault rifles and backed by APCs. Once you've done that, you are put into a helicopter to escort a series of trucks containing nuclear waste. This would seem easy at first glance, considering the helicopter has a machine gun turret and guided missles with infinite ammo. However, you not only have to kill the incoming vans carrying three of the aformentioned gents each, you also have to take care of rocket ambushes along the road before the truck gets there. Rocket ambushes will take about 1/3 of the truck's health, and the combined firepower of assault rifles and high-speed ramming from the vans will do about 1/8 health per second. I managed to finally complete the mission by playing co-op with a freind, so that I was in the truck, and therefore able to better evade and fight back against rockets and vans.

Water Hazard in HL2, that level sucked! But it was near immediately followed by We Don't go to Ravensholm so it balances out a bit... I guess...

Isn't it always the sewer level, in any game?
I actually can't think of any really bad sewer level off the top of my head.
I think I hate the Ice levels in platformers more then sewer levels in FPSs

Any escort level in a game to me is the worst level in the game.
I second that. People who need escorting die way too easily!
Flashback missions also tick me off at times. How can I die in a flashback? It has already happened so therefore there should be no way to fail a flashback mission.
You have obviously never played prince of persia.
Yes I have actually.
I didn't mean that in a mean way or anything, I was just pointing out that that game was technically all flashback, since its being retold by the prince to some one eles. So every thime you die he say "no no, thats not how it happened" like for a seconed hee actually thought like he jumped into a spike pit and died.

It seems to go without saying that any level of Halo with the flood in it was pretty crappy.
Sums it up for me, was the first thing that came to mind when i saw the thread title :)

if i ever play that game again i'll enable infinite ammo cheats for those sections to get past them as quickly as possible!

The second half of Halo 1 - God damn those identical corridors. One time I ended up going the wrong way because the Monitor had already flown through a gap in the doorway and I spun around one too many times dealing with the Flood. So I ended up with no idea where to go, seeing dead Flood everywhere with no memory of killing them because my mind was focused on staying alive and how many shotgun shells I had left. After about an hour and a half I eventually ended up in the right place, though.

But yeah, the second half of Halo 1.

I'd like to hear him reading to kids :p
"And then Bilbo got his head chopped off by the spinning blade.. oh wait no, that's not what happened, he jumped over the blade but fell off the edge of the platform to his death.. wait that's not right, he actually..."

I'm amazed at the lack of Water Temples in this topic.
We prefer to pretend that water temples never existed.
Come on guys, it wasn't that bad. True, running around in circles to control the water levels was annoying, but it wasn't the confusing level of doom everyone makes it out to be.

The Escort Level in Bioshock was annoying too. I turn around to kill a splicer, no enemies attacking in worrisome numbers, and I turn around to find that the Little Sister is being torn to shreds while I stand there, watching helplessly. I make it through with the Little Sister barely alive, and i can't heal her. That was the worse part.
I share your absolute hatred for that part of Bioshock. I mean seriously, was there really a need to tack on an escort mission to the end of the game. Why not just skip that part and get to fighting Atlas? (Granted, I didn't like that part that much more, either, but escort missions in general are a pain in the butt, so why bother?)

Side note: does anyone here really like escort missions? Just curious.

Exactly, just a case of carefully exploring and memorising where things are.

Only annoying bit was the whirlpool river.

Xen was just terrible level design. Also, the second turret defense in Half Life 2 was long and horrible.
Agree with you on the first, very muchly. The second... well, I didn't have THAT much trouble, after I figured out to barricade myself in the room with the health/energy dispensers and place the turrets behind boxes so that grenades had less of a chance to knock 'em down. It turned it from aggravating to mildly annoying.

But Xen... ugh. I hope the Black Mesa remake does a better job of Xen. Cool concept, terrible execution. You could tell Valve were kind of rushing it at that point.
Maybe I should try that with the turrets. Good advice, I'll just have to test it.

Also, from what I know, Xen was the part of the game that wasn't play tested, explaining the sheer absurdity of the enemies and platforming.

And I am greatly looking forward to the Black Mesa mod. Remaking Xen alone would make it worth the wait, not to mention the many other improvements (coming out of the tunnel to the outside in the trailer was just beautiful).

Pretty much any water level and any escort mission sucks balls no matter what game you play. Worst escort mission ever was is in Psychonauts. One of the best, most imaginative games I have ever played and they put a fucking escort mission at the very END of it. God awful water levels have to go to Kingdom Hearts I and II. It like the developers of both those games made those levels when they were extremely hung over and wanted to share their pain. Okami( which I LOVE and is perfect in almost every way) has one of the most annoying digging mini-games ever.

Dark Link was hard, though. There was some secret to beating him, but I forgot it.

Mega Man 2, Heat Man stage.

Jesus Christ, those disappearing blocks were impossible without Item-2. It's a level hazard you might expect from a ROM hack, not from an actual video game.
