In CoD:WaW, blowtorch and corkscrew.
Waaaaay too many mg nests.
I estimate I died at least 12 times on the first one alone.

Also the level in prototype where you gotta hijack the tank to consume the guy inside, I don't remember the name, it was like the 2nd to last level though.
Waaaaaaay too many guys with missle launchers.
not to mention they respawn like 2 seconds after you kill them.
To the first part, yeah, the part with the Spider Holes in that level was really hard. The rest was doable, it just took time to get the rhythm down.

To the second, I assume you mean the part where you have to consume Tiggart. Yeah, you have to follow him and kill his escorts, you're just blown off the tank if you try before Alex makes some comment to the effect of "now!"

The Escort Level in Bioshock was annoying too. I turn around to kill a splicer, no enemies attacking in worrisome numbers, and I turn around to find that the Little Sister is being torn to shreds while I stand there, watching helplessly. I make it through with the Little Sister barely alive, and i can't heal her. That was the worse part.
I share your absolute hatred for that part of Bioshock. I mean seriously, was there really a need to tack on an escort mission to the end of the game. Why not just skip that part and get to fighting Atlas? (Granted, I didn't like that part that much more, either, but escort missions in general are a pain in the butt, so why bother?)

Side note: does anyone here really like escort missions? Just curious.
It depends. I think they can be done well, they just usually aren't. I can't think of any examples of a good escort off the top of my head, as I'm tired, but I know I've played some.

In the original God of War there is the level where you are swimming and it turns to side-scrolling and you have to dodge the spiked plates and time your swimming just right. For some reason the timing for that just will not click in my head. When I originally played the game I just gave up because after 2 hours I couldn't get past that level and I sold the game. Later on I bought a used copy to see if I could finally get through it, NOPE. I had to have a friend do it for me (he got it in one try, just like everybody else I've talked to) so I could finish the game.

Another horrible level: the first one in the Blood Harvest campaign in L4D. I hate the number of trees in that map.
I liked that level, it made it intense when you are surrounded by trees in low health and then you suddenly hear a boomer.
The driving sequences in Mass Effect.

i'd have to say one of the driving missions in the 24 game was god-awful, particularly when the cars/vans that are driving you off the road can drive faster than you and shoot at you. i must've played that mission 10 times before finally putting a hole in the wall next to me. of course, it was my very next play through of that mission that i got 100% rating :p

I'm amazed at the lack of Water Temples in this topic.
We prefer to pretend that water temples never existed.
Yes. I have always wondered why it's always the water temples that "suck". But for me the temple in Twilight Princess where you go to the flying city of the Ooccoo people (or whatever they are called) was the worst

the first few times i played the water temple in OoT were a pain in the ass, but like the 3rd or 4th i preatty much remembered where everything was and it was actually not that bad. not enjoyable mind you, but not frustrating. also the sewer level and the cargo ship level in star wars: shadows of the empire were a pain in the ass. especially the boss of the sewer level. already awkward jet-pack controls mixed with underwater boss is a recipie for disaster.

Meat Circus in Psychonauts, definitely. It was so difficult compared to the rest of the game, and really fucked up in general as well.
Yea, compared to all the other levels, that was really broken and just not fun. The Bioshock escort mission was also rather tiring and monotonous, and it introduced a "gamey" element which really sucked the immersion out of it. The boss fight of the same game was also rather disappointing (I wanted someone wearing a top hat and quoting Atlas Shrugged dammit!).

Cortana Level in Halo 3, FUCKING SUCKED
Came into this topic to post this. It was literally so bad that my friends and I literally turned the game off and went to sleep.

Kurast of Diablo 2. God those little bastards annoy the hell out of me.

Operation Anchorage from Fallout 3. I hate it so much, but it gives me indestructible power armor and the gauss rifle! Meanest DLC ever.

Cave of Rhone from Dragon Warrior 2. Imagine that place (if you've ever seen it) when you are about 11 years old, and didn't have a computer/internet (not that it was even that useful then). It took me 3 and a half months to figure that cave out.

The surface of Malacor V, where you meet Bao-Dur. Not that fond of Bao-Dur and I always find this level annoying to have to replay when going through the game again.

I know other people have mentioned this also.

I really didn't mind it that much! It had nifty music and visuals, and it wasn't THAT bad.

I still think it's better than the majority of levels in modern action RPGs or whatever genre Zelda is.

The 15th or so Oblivion gate you attempt to close.
YES! lol. Hate Oblivion gates. On one of the oblivion gates, theres a random world you go to with six towers surrounding a seventh, and there are four gates that deny access to the main tower (the one with the damned Sigil Stone). Took me forever to get to all the towers. I literally spent four hours on that ONE oblivion gate.

After about the first half hour I went in private chat with a friend to see if he knew how to solve this one; he didn't of course. I finally figured out which tower it was, but whenever I found a similar Oblivion gate i turned right back around and left saying "Oh no, no, no. Fuck that shit..."

Shinobu's level on Bitter mode in No More Heroes. Its OK on any other difficulty but Bitter is so unforgiving.

(Honorable mention goes to About 3/4 of The Way Through Any Trauma Center Game but it's disqualified for being an Atlus game an nobody beats Atlus games.)
