They just BEAT YOU TO DEATH -.-
Thats not really a noob combo, but it just frustrates me.
When your gettin' meleed, you can't run.
Your stuck to your faith.
Or when your trying to knife someone in any COD,they shoot you to death.
You find that a lot on COD4 for Xbox Live.
But yeah...
Those aren't really noob combos, but they frustrate me to death.
I have a real noob combo now though:
UberHeavy and Medic.
They should shoot you when you are trying to knife them. I don't know how the knife works in COD but far to often the melee attack (chainsaw, knife from Turok) are overpowered and really steal the fun from playing online. It is one thing to catch a guy off guard and use them. It is another to run all over the map hoping to cheap out an opponent.

This is of course based on a normal match and not one where everyone agrees to have a melee only match.

The reason is I got caught off guard, and it was a last resort to try and survive.
Gotcha. I thought you were crying foul cuz you were running around trying to knife everyone and someone had the nerve to shoot you. It just amazes me ppl get pissed when that happens.

Starcraft:
Turtling with photon cannons, then spam out carriers. Hey, I used to do it, I sometimes still do it, and I know how to deal with it, but DAMN it's cheap. It's just a matter of going through the motions, and an excellent example of a n00bm00v.

Also, zerg rushes. But I kinda like those. :)

I always hated people with the extra grenade perk on CoD4, when you got killed by them, you'd see on the killcam how they simply threw their grenades randomly into the air and you got hit by one out of pure chance.

I hate snipers in Halo, which is ironic because I myself prefer to snipe enemies from a distance...

This is a blast from the past...In Goldeneye, the golden gun on multiplayer in the level with the bathroom. Two people with golden guns can camp out indefinitely.

Basically the golden gun or other one-hit guns in general.

Gormers1, it just depends how you play. You just have to get rid of him early, when I play stock matches I just kill what I can and keep out of the way with my cypher. Then take on the last man standing. Plus Marth's attacks can one shot people if you time it right so he has to be slower.

Problem you will constantly face in COD is bickering like: "you killed me with x perk, x perk is for n00bs" or "you killed me with x gun, x gun is for n00bs."

The AWP in CSS. It's like having an insta-kill gun.
That happens to me all the time. Martyrdom in COD4 and I think COD:WaW is a common contender for complainers but I don't mind it. RPGs in COD4 annoy me so much, as does the barrel mounted grenade launcher, no skill at all.

AWPs in Counterstrike as well.

I just stopped playing CS:S because of the AWP. have people stopped using that thing yet? I swear almost every single time I was headshotted I looked at how he was doing it and he was shooting my finger, except that my finger was five feet from where he was FUCKING AIMING!!!

COD series - because people always hide around the corner with a auto shotgun, either that or knifing you
Because taking cover is a bad thing and everybody should just like up in the street infront of you. Check your corners more often.

I see that alot of people are commenting that "noobs are the ones who complain about *insert weapon/ powerup here*" and though I can understand your view, there are scenarios where you just think, "damn, that was cheap" and I believe that is the crux of this thread. For example, Martyrdom has been mentioned alot and though it can be avoided when you know its there, when I see a blip on the radar and start sneaking up on the target only for some other guy to kill him without my knowing, I walk over a live grenade with too little time to jump my slow ass out of harms reach or throw that bugger away. The result is an untimely death and a frag to some undeserving bastard, that seems cheap to me. The same thing goes for grenade spamming, "Oh so you chose the three grenades perk? I like that one too, but how about you use it to flush out campers, god knows there are enough hiding next to staircases in this game"

I think the whole V.A.T.S. targeting system in Fallout 3 is noobish. I know I would be pissed if a Super Mutant suddenly shot four laser blasts in less than a second.

And you can cheat it - if you think you're going to die, just start cooking a grenade; when killed, you'll drop it.

Martyrdom is unnecessarily infuriating - it kills team-mates on FF servers, and with speakers off there's no way to know if one's right beside you. It requires no skill whatsoever. So even if I spend a minute (which is a long time in a multiplayer game) trying to kill someone, they shouldn't be able to kill me near instantaneously without pressing a button. Last Stand at least requires some skill, but I'm against both of these stupid perks.

I hated the Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle from Halo 2. Drops you in seconds, works at all ranges, and is almost impossible to miss with.

Mind you, they fixed it for 3, but in 3 the melee is retarded. There's almost no point to the shotgun or any other close range weapon, you can destroy anyone up close in two swings and a lot of firefights end with whoever hit "melee" first.

EDIT: I also freaking hate the rocket launcher. The second tube makes it go from "deadly when used right" to "you get free kills". I liked games like Star Wars: Battlefront where the game's rocket launchers were anti-armor weapons, and anti-armor weapons alone.

Every noob tactic has even easier counter if the game is balanced.
Good point. It's annoying when people cry about Martyrdom in CoD4 when it can be so easily avoided.
Martyrdom annoyed me because you get a kill through circumstance alone. There is no skill or strategy (and when there IS a strategy, it's generally a poor one since death comes swiftly in COD4). In a game so brutally fast paced, the need to constantly check your forward momentum to make sure you don't hear the tell-tale sound of a grenade drop breaks the flow nicely. When I first started, it seemed as though EVERYONE was using the damn perk, meaning each and every kill was accompanied by an explosion, and often secondary kills and more explosions.

Last stand was far less troublesome. For starters, you are given better indicators - until the person is well and truly dead you don't get any experience and they clearly don't become a corpse, but instead prop themselves up on one arm. Just as important is the fact that the player on last stand must use a degree of skill to even hope to get a kill as generally speaking you might get off a shot or two before you're put down.

When I'm killed by a martyrdom grenade I'm annoyed that someone profited without effort. When I'm killed by someone on last stand I usually curse my inattentiveness (and sometimes I am even willing to grudgingly admit that I was simply outplayed).

MY favorite noob tactic of all time came from Team Fortress Custom (a mod for Team Fortress for the original quake). Essentially, instead of having classes you purchased a variety of skills, items and equipment and created a custom class. As players of the old TF games know, the engineer used to be armed with the EMP grenade - a weapon that by itself had no killing power. Instead, it's leathality was derived from exploding any grenades/rockets/shotgun shells (nails didn't explode), and since each class usually had large amounts of both it became stupidly lethal. What's worse, if the grenade went off and activated on a backpack of ammunition (or person) that person would explode with a similar EMP explosion, often leading to huge chain detonations. Using the custom set, some players would opt only to carry a few emp grenades, a fast set of legs, a fair amount of health and boatloads of ammunition. They would then clutch said EMP grenade to their chest and run screaming into the ranks of the enemy. No matter what the outcome, it was rare that such a move was anything other than devastating.

In one instance, on a map called rock (based on the movie the rock), there is a large courtyard on both sides that acts as the focal point for most of the combat. There are usually a number of defending players, countless dropped ammo packs, and at least a handful of turrets (and in the quake days those sentries were staggeringly lethal). In one suicide bombing, a single player with a single grenade managed to utterly annihilate the entire area, racking up a half dozen player kills, and multiple sentry gun kills.

What makes it a noob move is quite simply once the player made it into the room, nothing they could do would have prevented the hellstorm that ensued. Killing the player dropped the grenade which exploded the backpack which sets off the deadly chain reaction. Ignoring the player allows them to have better placement for their deadly cargo. Running from the player was useless, because the very fires of Armageddon are unleashed and the explosion was not blocked by anything other than distance (EMP Grenades ignored obstacles and LOS). In a game of personal combat, giving a player the equivalent of a suitcase nuke was so dramatically imbalanced that it was impossible to really be angry at the result - inevitability is at least somewhat comforting like that.
