I think you mean Dead Rising my friend :) So much Dead around these days. Good post thought, I've yet to find anyone that LIKES Otis.

EDIT: Damn, you people are quick ^

"Hey, listen?" Does it ring a bell?

No?

The annoying fairy in Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. How about now?

Everyone's saying Sheva, which I would normally agree with...but after beating the game on Amateur, and playing the game on Normal AS Sheva, I have to say that Chris is a MUCH more infuriating side character than Sheva. Used ALL of my First Aid Sprays (I had at least 3) in a fight against a couple majini because he wouldn't freaking shoot them.

The little girl from Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Shows no emotion, ruins EVERY cutscene and needs to stop saying "kay"

Ive always been endlessly annoyed with Donald and Goofy in kingdom hearts. Not only were they useless. They were also annoying as hell.
Agreed. Frakin Donald was never in party if I could help it, but they were both equally annoying...

And Navi haunts my nightmares too, I swear I hear her in other games...

Some of the companions in Fallout 3, especially that fucking Paladin. Here I am, sneaking around, backstabbing opponents with nary a sound to be heard, and Miss Leeroy decides to charge head-first into the 5 or so sentry bots armed with miniguns and missile launchers.

I'm going to say the bots in Left 4 Dead.

Oh sure they provide reasonable enough back-up, but they just seem to suffer so many AI malfunctions it's hilarious. Ignoring you when your pounced, smokered. Healing at inappropriate times, staring at witches with the flash light on, and deciding the best way to deal with tanks on No Mercy 5 is to run up to it, on the pipes, with their back to the air.

Saying that though, half the people make the bots seem stellar by comparison.

I'm going to go with Tails and Navi. Sure, tails can fly, but he's just a mini sonic that can fly and just is kinda there. Navi... I don't think I have to explain.
No, what was worst about Tails was that he'd follow Sonic onto the water bosses. You hit the water, you die instantly, regardless of rings. Unfortunately in the 2D games, if you hit the boss, he'd become untouchable for about half a second - if you jumped towards him you'd just fall straight through. Now add that he's suspended above a deadly pit and that Tails could hit him too (generally just under half a second before you did). Now think about that one for a second and take a deep breath...

I'd also add a shout-out to the marines on the roof in Half Life 2. Generally the NPC AI was very good (Alix must be one of the best support characters going), but these guys wouldn't stay in cover when the striders / gunships were attacking, even though you were the only one who could hurt those enemies in the slightest. Watch them jump out, fire their puny machine guns at the gunship, and get cut down for their efforts, even though you'd told them to stay indoors! I'm not sure whether you're even SUPPOSED to keep them alive (as opposed to using them as decoy targets for the gunships to aim at while you're blasting them with a rocket launcher) but damn, it's annoying and near-impossible if you try.

I was talking about the 2-D games, I never realy got into the 3-D ones except the good ones, sonic adventure and sonic adventure two. Also, I cannot agree more on the marines. They were shooting at a strider with pistols.

Farah from Sands of Time. Despite her actual human behaviour, she can't aim to save either her pixellated life OR yours, all her arrows either miss or hit the Prince somehow like they've got human-homing tips or something. Then she leaves...and dies. Oh nooo spoilerrsss!
she was in my line-up too. she was in it simply for that battle in the lift. *shudders*

I don't get the Sheva hate. I thought she rocked, so much so that i used her for normal, veteran and professional over peanut on a brick chris. In all my playthroughs with an ai partner, i've always found that when i needed my partner to heal me they did and when they didn't well i didn't really care, it just made more "oh man, i need to not get hit again!" Simply Chris or Sheva under ai control is decent, more decent than any other ai partner i've ever had.

All the support characters in Clive Barkers Jericho where awful, Dom could be a pain in the neck (if they even had necks?) but the gold prize winner for most annoying character has to be louis in left 4 dead for me because for some reason he just can't leave the witch be. I recall a beachball throwing guy in final fantasy x that i just never ever used but would keep popping up in the cut scenes, Mac in Lost Odyssey was fairly useless for me.

Dom on insane in Gears 2. Caused mutliple fails.
To combat that, I never feel as epic in Gears as I do when Dom gets his rear handed to him early off and I get to singlehandedly take out the rest of them. Gives me the inspiration to keep going and all.

However, the fails far outweigh those situations. Too bad GoW just wouldn't be the same without him, eh?
