Hmmm, possible child support, or finding some deranged kid saying "are you my daddy?"
Is it actually possible to get child support from a sperm donor? Seems like an absolutely ridiculous notion; which means that some crazy ***** in the US has already sued for it.

I'd go for it. I don't see much harm in doing it, and I get paid.

My genes are utter garbage, so I wouldn't.

Supposing that I had high-quality genes, however, I probably would. It's all just protein, after all, regardless of where it came from.

The bigger question seems to be whether the fact that the sperm came from you makes you the true "father" instead whoever raised the child. The latter is true in my opinion.

If I was paid for it yeah, although if they find me I may regret it.

Well yeah, probably.
Then I'd bribe someone employed at the spermbank so I would know when offspring are produced with my genes.
Then I'd wait until the kid get old enough track him/her down and do my very best Vader impersonation.

hmm, I could never say no to earning money out of just..."my nightly ritual" but in a cup. But I don't want to be anonymous unless the parents or child (when he's 16) wants me to be. I think they deserve to know where the genes are coming from and what kind of person I am

If I was in need of cash, sure. It's just a biological function... and I've got pretty good genes, so I'd potentially be doing humanity a favor. I just want no part in raising children. As long as that's not asked of me, I'll artificially impregnate any woman who is actually capable of raising a child. Far better to empower one who has planned for the kid than another Idiocracy-inducing accident.

Being a woman I wouldn't feel comfortable with receiving a stranger's sperm. It could be some dirty hobo off the street. Just no. Makes me feel dirty. If I'm going to have children it would be with a boyfriend/husband. And if I dodn't have one then none at all I guess. I'd rather adopt.
Well they don't just let random people off the street. They're pretty selective. And you can't lie about it, they test you. Or.. Go by obvious things.. You can't say you're tall if you're really 4 feet tall. The people working at the sperm banks DO have eyes.. Sperm banks are required to test for a slew of diseases like cystic fibrosis and other blood disorders, and STDs. Donors also have to provide a medical history of the family that is minimally four generations back (it must be spotless). They deny people the opportunity to donate based on an in depth physical examination, an examination of the semen, an examination of the penis and testicles, their test results on the various medical screenings, and such. Sperm banks are so strict that sometimes they won't let men donate if they're bald! And babies born from donated sperm are affected by birth defects 1/5 less of the time because of the rigorous screenings the men go through (and when you take into consideration how many babies are born, that's a lot less of a chance!).

So there's nothing to worry about.

Good luck spreading a recessive gene...

OP: No, I don't want some douche raising my line.
What makes you so special?

OT: Since I'm gay I "would" use a sperm bank since.. I'm gay... But I'm highly afraid of getting pregnant, and it's probably not a good thing for me because my mom almost died giving birth to me due to "complications", and my girlfriend doesn't want to give birth because her mom gained a lot of weight from giving birth and never lost it. Also, there's the whole "giving birth permanently changes your anatomy" thing.. So there's a slew of reasons from vain to biological. But needless to say I'll be adopting. I kind of like the "what you see is what you get" aspect of it.. Because no matter how perfect your genes are and the genes of your sperm donor (be it husband, boyfriend, or bank) are, there's always a chance you could be the one with the one eyed baby (or worse!). It'd be a horrible thing to go through all that trouble of giving birth and then having a miscarriage.. So at least if I adopt a baby I have a 100% guarantee that it's alive..

Also, the world is over populated.. So I'd like to do my part to not.. Populate it.

Possibly.
And if the kid tracked me down and said I was his father?
Reaction: "Congratulations." *closes door
If I wanted to raise I child, I'd do it in a relationship. If I was tracked down, it would be a rather depressing episode of that show. Obviously, I didn't want the idea of raising a child then, what makes you think I want it now?
In a relationship, I'd have a child (if we both wanted it) with that person.
Outside a relationship, it depends on my mood. Not really any problems with donating sperm (the 50% of my genes I contribute is random anyway), unless they track me down. Then I'd get kind of creeped out.
"You seriously spent X amount of time looking for your genetic father when you had a/two parents who raised you? That's messed up."

No never, I would never set foot in one of those donation centers.

That's primarily because I'm female, but hey, we'll roll with it.

if i got 50 bucks or whatever out of it, hell yeah i would.

if the kid found me or whatever when he/she was 18, it'd go two different ways

A) if they wanted money and all that bullshit from the past 18 years i wasn't there supposedly, then they can fuck off

B) if they just want to know me and what im like, then thats cool, ill talk to them and be somewhat of a godparent for them or whatever.

I would do that. Getting paid to fap? count me in. Also i would not have any problem if 15 years from now a kid would walk up to me and say that i was his father.
and what if hes asking you for money? think about that

anyway, i wouldnt be willing to do it because i wouldnt like the idea of knowing i have a kid or multiple kids out in the world, but not know who they are.

You'd chop off his hand, try to kill his friends, and wait to tell him his sister is his sister?
you sick, sick person.

Only if I could be guaranteed total anonymity from any resulting offspring and total the prevention of myself from accessing the information about the offspring, otherwise I would end up seeking out the child. If I could simply put it out of my mind, knowing that I could never meet or contact the offspring in anyway, I could deal with it, but if it was possible it would haunt me.

Getting paid to fap is just great. It might get a bit weird later in life knowing I'd have so many little mes running around, but, I think I'd get by no problem.

While I gaming just now, I was watching a TV show out of the corner of my eye, with children (now adults) who had been conceived with sperm from a spermbank, searching for their original fathers. When you donate sperm you do so anonomously I believe, but with the technology today, it is still possible to find almost anyone.

And that got me thinking, if you had good quality semen and was paid to donate, would you do it regardless of any possible consequences? Why would(n't) you?

And if the women are feeling left out: If you were at a stage in your life where you reached a certain age without having a boyfriend/husband, would you consider artificial insimination with someone else's sperm?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that there could be a little "me" running around out there, I didn't know about.
As far as consequences go, you don't have to worry about it legally, I'm sure there is no possible obligation to a child conceived from sperm you donated.

But I wouldn't do it, if I have kids, I want to know about it.

Also, with all the options of donors at a sperm bank, who the fuck would choose MINE!? Sure I'm intelligent, but there are some crappy things that run in my family.

I actually went and wanted to donate, my sperm quality was fine and all, but it couldn't handle the freezing.

Helping someone else out is a good thing in itself. Being able to get a few coins for it too, only better.
And if I should get sought out 20 years later? Well, I would just have to explain it to a complete stranger.
