Being a woman I wouldn't feel comfortable with receiving a stranger's sperm. It could be some dirty hobo off the street. Just no. Makes me feel dirty. If I'm going to have children it would be with a boyfriend/husband. And if I dodn't have one then none at all I guess. I'd rather adopt.
Well they don't just let random people off the street. They're pretty selective. And you can't lie about it, they test you. Or.. Go by obvious things.. You can't say you're tall if you're really 4 feet tall. The people working at the sperm banks DO have eyes.. Sperm banks are required to test for a slew of diseases like cystic fibrosis and other blood disorders, and STDs. Donors also have to provide a medical history of the family that is minimally four generations back (it must be spotless). They deny people the opportunity to donate based on an in depth physical examination, an examination of the semen, an examination of the penis and testicles, their test results on the various medical screenings, and such. Sperm banks are so strict that sometimes they won't let men donate if they're bald! And babies born from donated sperm are affected by birth defects 1/5 less of the time because of the rigorous screenings the men go through (and when you take into consideration how many babies are born, that's a lot less of a chance!).
So there's nothing to worry about.

Good luck spreading a recessive gene...
OP: No, I don't want some douche raising my line.
What makes you so special?
OT: Since I'm gay I "would" use a sperm bank since.. I'm gay... But I'm highly afraid of getting pregnant, and it's probably not a good thing for me because my mom almost died giving birth to me due to "complications", and my girlfriend doesn't want to give birth because her mom gained a lot of weight from giving birth and never lost it. Also, there's the whole "giving birth permanently changes your anatomy" thing.. So there's a slew of reasons from vain to biological. But needless to say I'll be adopting. I kind of like the "what you see is what you get" aspect of it.. Because no matter how perfect your genes are and the genes of your sperm donor (be it husband, boyfriend, or bank) are, there's always a chance you could be the one with the one eyed baby (or worse!). It'd be a horrible thing to go through all that trouble of giving birth and then having a miscarriage.. So at least if I adopt a baby I have a 100% guarantee that it's alive..
Also, the world is over populated.. So I'd like to do my part to not.. Populate it.
