Family names and titles have little meaning to me.

I am a bastard that was born out of wedlock, I have never known my father so I was given my Grandfathers last name, which my mom also has. The name is of little importance to me.

I am also the last person to carry that name, if I do not have a child the name will die with me as my mothers sibling never had a child and I am an only child.

If ever I got married I would be fine with taking my lovers name if it meant that much to her, I would even suggest the idea. I have changed my first name and I REALLY hate my middle name. So if my last name changed it would feel more like a new chapter in my life. I think I would enjoy having a different last name.

And be the nameless one? funk yeah that'd be aweso...
Oh... you mean last name.

I ono, Baker is kind of common. So maybe. Don't care really.
2 EDIT I thought it'd be cool to have the 2 over the B buttt escapist won't do it
Couldn't write B^ though, which would make me sad. Unless wife had a B last name of course.

I wouldn't expect a woman to take my name, I probably wouldn't take hers. But my girlfriend has said she'd take my name if and when we get married because she'd want the same name as her husband and kids.

No, because of the other three children in my generation of the family (three cousins), one is a girl (and not a stubborn one either) and two are boys, but born to my aunt, so they've already abandoned the name. I'm the only one left, and I''m a guy.

That said, I used to think my name was boring, but at least people pronounce it most of the time.

I do like my last name and I would like to keep it if possible but I don't know if my spouse would like it. My last name is "Kennerknecht" and it's a pretty long German name and some people I know don't like how long it is. I would prefer to keep it but I would also be open to change it if my spouse and I decide to go that route.

I wouldn't mind the idea of my spouse not giving up her last name. Of course I don't see myself giving up mine. You never know though.

Really don't care about my surname in the slightest. She can keeps hers. Hell, if it weren't for the social crucifixion I'd take hers if she did all the paperwork. The only thing I'd really have a firm hand about regarding surnames is that any kids we had would under no circumstances have one of those dumb as shit hyphenated surnames that take too long to write out.

It would depend on my spouse's last name. All my siblings gave up theres and it is important to my family that our family name be passed on, so no under any circumstances, she could still keep her origional last name but the FIRST child will have mine.

I never understood the whole "I'm a man so my wife takes MY NAME. NO DEBATE" point of view. Its just so stupid and archaic. Who the hell cares what your damn name is? Even if you're name is Jefferson Assfart I wouldn't judge you based on your name, I'd judge you based on your personality. If I get married or even just in a serious full time relationship I'd change my last name depending on the circumstance. I don't care for my last name to be honest.

Talking about coincidences.
My wife didn't give up her name. No big deal, and to be honest nobody seems to care. And that's the way things should be. ;]

Most likely neither of us will be willing to give up our surnames. But then again, surprises happen.

depends what hypothetical spouse wants and what their name is. my mum kept her name, and my surname is from my dads double-barrelled name, so giving my kids triple-barrelled names is insane. i guess if she wants to keep their name i wouldn`t mind, but i would only take her name if it was a really epic name.
like flex plexico.

Words cannot describe how jelly I am of your name, sir. o_o

OT: I am strongly against following a set of values based solely on tradition. The traditional cultural expectation for women to take their husband's surname reeks of sexism. I would not expect my spouse to take my surname, and I would not expect to be pressured into taking hers. Ultimately, I would leave it up to her to either keep her name, take mine, or take a hyphenated surname. Although I don't have any strong feelings about my name, I don't see myself changing it. Unless hers was something really cool sounding.

It depends on her name and how long i think the marriage will last.

But i kinda like my name its really scandinavian, though i dont think anyone beyond scandinavia can pronounce "Juul" correctly. But "Petersen" is quite easy to pronounce, i think.

Not sure if it has been brought up yet, but if I ever get married (I'm a guy), I intend to change my name to something we both like BEFORE we get married and then she changes her name to it afterwards, so basically we get to pick our own cool last name.
