Is it just me or does anyone else like to pretend in shooters, like CoD4,that Soap is gay?
Also I would play it.

Screaming, flamboyany gay guy who can't do shit=NO! THat is offensive.

Admireable,strong-willed,gay commander=YES!

Would be fun to play a game where you play it to the ned and suddenly realize that the main character is gay.

Uh...sure? I'm pretty sure we have at some point. Hell, Lara Croft, maybe? Could be that's why she tosses men out so easily. I kidd, of course (unless I'm right, in which case I so called it). Maybe a few others, right under our noses. Not like a big glaring 'Hey! I'm Gay!" badge would change the gameplay (although, the dialogue/scripting in said game would be fuuuuuuucccked), which is really what it's all about. No fun, no play. Characterization is just one ingredient, but lets not forget that it's an optional ingredient. Like, say, almonds.

As long as we didnt have to have sex or anything.

A good point is, i played GTA:SA with a black character. Im not black, and i had no problem with it. So why not a Gay guy?

If you woke up tomorrow and suddenly 90% of the world was gay and said that straight people were going to hell for their choices, made fun of them constantly, and didn't allow them all of the same rights that it allowed the gay memebers of society, wouldn't you have something to say about it? I'm not trying to say that changes need to be made now, or that straight people have to accept gays, because they don't. It's just something to think about.

All of that being said, I would have to agree with the majority of you. If the game was good, and the sexuality asspect of it wasn't shoved in your face, yeah I'd play it.

i present this to you

Yeah sure, why not? Sexuality is a real non-issue in video games because most of them are not concerned with relationships and if romance is involved it is usually a skippable side feature with the ability to choose sexuality. The sexuality of the main character is about as important as their hair colour, mabye less so as bad hair can ruin cinematic moments and be distracting during game play, while sexuality usually isn't.

If romance is the key part of the game however, like a dating sim or whatever, than I would not play it. I don't want to take part in a virtual gay relationship, or any virtual relationship for that matter. Maybe if it was an RPG of some sort more concerned with telling a good story in which the main character's sexuality and relationships are the main focus, than I might check it out, but it would have to be a damn well told and interesting story. I'm not going to touch a vapid dating sim with a 50 ft pole though.

Although I have been trying to get hold of the Persona games and from what I've heard the main character is gay and maintaining relationships with other people is important. Are they vapid dating sims though? Hmmm.

I'll tell you what I would do though, put this thread in the correct forum. It seems that threads last a bit longer here, they pick up more momentum. I wonder if other people have realised this.

...it depends. Simply being gay wouldn't bother me, and if the gameplay was good I doubt I'd care, but if they made an effort to match the stereotypical flamboyant drama queen gay profile, it might irritate me too much to put up with.
Ditto.

Well, would it effect anything the person does? Lol, no. Probably not. Seriously, in most games you don't even find out the person's sexual orientation unless it has something to do with the story line, so for all we know there's already a gay video game character! Haha Thinking outside the box!

I probably would, as long as you note that not all gay people are 'fabulous' and not all 'fabulous' people are gay. They might overlap sometimes but not all the time. If the main gay character wears a flowery shirt, a jumper like a cape and talks like Paris Hilton, then it's just degrading.

A good example of prominent gay characters are Jack and Ianto from Torchwood. They play out like any other office couple - teasing each other, having arguments and even get caught gettin' it on in an office. The only difference is that they're both male.

I would, I would be a bit bothered if the game had a gay sex scene but if the main character is just gay then I don't have a problem with it. It could be the makings of a great plot twist in a video game and it would be interesting since I have not seen it done before.

=P he carries around a gigantic wooden phallos that he uses to cave people's skulls in..

If he/she constantly blurts stereotypical gay mannerisms then no. Otherwise, sure, why not?
