Good evening/morning/afternoon Escapists. I created this thread to do a simple task. To pose a question. But let me start with some context.

So, it's about midnight, and with all my other friends gone to bed, which means I'm either going to go to bed myself - and wait the set 4 hours before I actually feel tiered and am able to go to sleep - or watch a movie. And heck. Movie it was! But having had a solid look through my DvD collection and skimmed the TV channels(curse you freeview!) I was left with no movie to watch. Crap. So, being new into this anime-malarky, I decided I'd ask a veteran of said animes to recommend me a film. Having only seen Laputa castle in the Sky and Spirited Away, I didn't really have much of a history. He recommended a movie called "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time". So, I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it looked okay. So, I googled the movie and found a place to watch it (Yes, I am a bad person, but this was a one off!) and off I went.

Wow. Simply. Wow.

This is probobly one of my new favorite films. It absolutely blew me away. I came expecting nothing, and after watching it I had chills over how good a movie it was. It was... well, amazing.

So, that brings me to the question I was going to ask. Simply, have you ever been so utterly blown away by something that it is hard to express via words?

Also. Go watch said movie. I ordered it straight after I watched it. Worth it.

ALSO ALSO. Damn, wall of text. Sorry guys.

EDIT: Doesn't have to anime, by the way!

Multi-part response:
1) Never heard of the movie. Will research and try to watch it.

2)As to your question, yes. A few times. First time I heard The Doors' "L.A. Woman." The first time I heard CCR's "Up Around the Bend." Every time I look at the Hubble Ultra Deep Field.

My words, for you sir, are:
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

I got sucked into the whole thing and it was as awesome as every told me it was, I was thinking that I'd watched every decent/semi-decent anime out there therefore this was nothing but a waste of time to watch, I was wrong...dead wrong :D.

Most recently, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

I fucking loved that movie to death.

I was pissed that the sequel was only released in New York City the day I left...

Yes I have. Though it wasn't an anime or movie, it was a real life revelation. A very good one...
Do you care in sharing it? I am trying to find one.

OT: In anime The Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22, The last OVA's of Hellsing Ultimate and the whole series of Serial Experiments Lain.

I too saw the girl who leapt through time, I think it was about 6 months ago and it was a great little movie. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites (that honour is saved for howls moving castle) but I've seen it at least 3 times now and find it great if your looking for something pretty light hearted and easy to watch.

One was definitely Pan's Labyrinth. It was a truly brilliant film, and it took me a long, long time (and another watch) to truly realize exactly why and how I loved that movie. But love it I did. So, so very much.

As for anime, Clannad definitely did that to me. At first I enjoyed it, and it wasn't anything too special; good, funny, emotional, but not too amazing. But as time went on it got better and better, and by the second season they did something I couldn't believe. The result was an immediate favorite, one of, if not my very favorite anime.

Crows Zero.

I went into it thinking it was a sweet fighting movie. I came out of it totally blown away.

Yes I have been blown away by something. It was Toy Story 3. It made me cry. Not tears of sadness, but tears of happiness.

The only thing that ever made me cry tears of happiness.

Also the revelation in Bioshock.
"Would you kindly?"

Also in KOTOR and Jade Empire

Revan in KOTOR and your master in Jade Empire

Just... wow.

The first time I heard In the Land of Grey and Pink by Caravan, Hotel California by the Eagles or Lord of Hypocrisy by Pagan Altar.

For movies In Bruges I knew nothing about it and saw it because it was on. It was the best movie I'd seen that year!

You know, I think it's been so long since I've been truly blown away by anything. Hmm, maybe I'll watch one of my movies and see if one of them blow me away.

Yet another example of why piracy is GOOD.

But off of that derail, no not really. I usually just use words lol.
