Alright, here we go.

I was leveling up my Tentacool,
Lemme stop you right there. Tentacool? Really?

But seriously, this is a fairly common occurance. In pretty much every modern Pokemon game, there's some sort of running Pokemon that can basically only be found with the Pokedex. They're quite a pain to find, and catch, IMO.

And for most games, I just play through without using the Master Ball for some reason. Takes away the validity of some catches.

Hey, now, it evolved into a Tentacruel.

What? Haven't you played the original? Of course that's natural. Entei, Suicune, and... the other one randomly show up throughout the world. If you see them, they run away in one turn so you have to either use an attack that keeps them from running or get incredibly lucky with a random pokeball.

On the bright side, now that you've seen Entei once, you can track 'im. Every time you go to a new route, he moves to another route. You have to keep moving around till you're both in the same route, then you have to search around in the grass till he appears and then you can attempt to capture him.
The third one's Raikou, and in gold I actually managed to catch him with a normal pokeball (on VERY low health). I have a feeling that it won't be that easy to catch him in my soul silver this second time round though...

It's Raikou. :p

And OP, yes. The Entei encounter is normal.

Suicune is the only one that sticks around for a fight.
Really? I thought that all three of them ran for their lives immediately.

Btw I gasped, "Nitty!" when I saw you here. I visit the Vault regularly, so I've seen you there plenty, but I had no idea you were an Escapist.

But you couldn't get a more badass Pokemon? I'm over here workin' my ass off to get a Tyranitar, (sp?) and You're over there using one of the most common Pokemon in the game.

Just sayin'.

Are you somehow implying that Tentacruel isn't badass?

Besides, I'm only at Gym #5.

Why yessir I am. It's pretty much the furthest thing from badass I have ever seen in my life. Have you seen the actual episode of it on the anime? It's something like 99.8% water.

Lame.

I just got Surf, and I tried it out for the first time in HeartGold. First wild Pokemon encounter while Surfing: Entei.

What the hell, Game Freak?

All three ran away in Gold and Silver, but HeartGold and SoulSilver are basically Gold and Silver melded with Crystal. Ergo, moar focus on Suicune.

Also, yes. I'm the owner of the Fallout Fans group here too.

I was leveling up my Tentacool, running around Route 39, hum de dum, battle a Magnemite, hum de dum, faint a Raticate, hum de du - WHAT THE FUCK ENTEI?!?

Seriously! An Entei! Of course, I hit it with a Surf from my Tentacool, and then it ran away. The fuck?!?

So, two questions. One, is this Entei encounter normal? Two, have you ever been in a Pokemon encounter and REALLY wished you had a Master Ball?
what is an entai?wait is that a new legendary?
How the hell could you not know what Entei is? Have you never had a gameboy?

OT: Yes it's normal after the tower, just put him to sleep and catch him.

Yes the Entei encounter is normal (after doing the burning tower) although he moves around the map and for the second question....yes
Hey. just out of curiosity, how do you find Eniei/Suicune/Raikou (depending on starter) on leaf green.
you're asking the wrong guy, I've never even played Leaf Green

Simple answer: use something with Mean Look, Block, or a Spider Web, to stop the thing from running. Next, level up something with False Swipe; now, you can work it down, round by round, to a minimum health without the risk of killing it. Then, just paralyse it or put it to sleep, and pokeball away. WARNING! Keep track of how often it has used its attacks in one fight...if it runs out of PP, then it's stuck using Struggle, which will kill the rare cat off.

use scary face man!!! oh well at least now you can use the pokedex to track him :p
1. You're thinking of mean look, not scary face. Scary face just slows them down in combat.

2. You can already track Entei/Raikou with your pokegear once they start running around.

OT: They wouldn't be so hard to catch if they didn't have roar....

The legendary... whatever-the-heck-they-ares are always a pain. I'm still glad I was so lucky in Sapphire; I beat the Elite Four, flew somewhere, Surfed, and literally the first wild Pokemon I encountered was Latias. Boom, Master Ball, save myself all the trouble.

It's a giant monster jellyfish. That automatically makes it cool.

I just got SoulSilver, so the stuff I'm training is also a little less than impressive (although Beedrill is great in the early game, and Gastly is awesome [if it learned special attacks before like level 30]).

I just masterball'd Raikou.

Then I made it my HM slave.
Which speaks for how epic my team is, that I use a legendary as an HM slave.

Ah yes, the three legendary dogs (Suicune is more of a cat but whatever), they were fun to catch. Raikou was my favourite and helped to balance out my party, HoHo and Lugia were strong Fire/Water types (except Lugia wasn't really water, was it?) so I didn't really need Entei or Suicune but they were cool to have around.

I loved how I would blast through the Elite 4 with the three dogs, the two birds and either Alakazam or Mewtwo and Lance as well as everyone else would congratulate me for not resorting to only using strong pokemon. I would say that 99% of players favourites just happen to be the most OP.

Ha, Entei was the first of the legendary dogs I came across in Silver as well. Since silver was my first pokemon game, I didn't really understand that there was only one of these guys, and that they move around. I spent about an hour walking around the same 9X9 square patch of grass trying to find another one after it ran away, before checking its location through the pokedex... >_<
