Wait wait wait! Are you saying roided-out macho man from a "sport" watched primarily by white rednecks has racist tendencies?!
Well fuck, next you'll be saying that about NASCAR fans and Klan members.
There can only be one Macho Man. And he is the 'cream of the crop', as said by himself.

Damnit I freakin' love the Macho Man.
Sucks that he's dead.

On Topic: I couldn't care less who they include or not include. After the crapfest that was WWE 2K15 they need to try really hard to get my loyalty again.

I'm seeing a weird kind of double standard, maybe it has to do with who's been in this thread, but...why is it that Donald Sterling hangs in the court of public opinion for saying racist shit while unknowingly being recorded, but when it happens to the Hulkster he's getting fucked over and it isn't fair? Is there a statute of limitations on saying racist shit in private?

These aren't rhetorical questions, I'm honestly trying to understand. First famous people are getting fucked over by their twitter conversations, now it's things said in private...maybe we should just learn to speak exclusively in Newspeak so that nothing incriminating can be found 10 years later and cause doubleplus ungood things happen to our life's work.

It's a crazy world we live in. A recording of an 8 year old conversation can ruin a guys life. A person can be a whole new person in that time, their opinions drastically changed. While I don't find racial slurs acceptable at all when it comes to people I'm around, if someone says something behind closed doors and does not translate into some kind of action, I don't see why it should matter now. But that is just my opinion and I couldn't possibly blame anyone for being offended by it.
The thing that is really weird about this to me, is if you even listen to the recording, it seems pretty obvious that the guy is self aware that his opinion isn't necessarily a good one. He's just stating out-loud thoughts that a lot of people have but never voice. Hell, most people I know are xenophobic to some degree or another, Hulk's not wrong when he says, "I guess we're all a little racist." I kind of agree with that, I think pretty much everyone has xenophobic or racist or sterotyping thoughts. It's a pretty unavoidable part of being a human being. What really ought to count is how you act on them...

Really, his biggest crime is being secretly taped while being truthful.

One other thing I've noticed is that as someone who is not white and has experienced actual discrimination (not just people being salty with me and slurs) I find myself in the odd position of being way more forgiving about this kind of behavior than an enormous amount of white people on Twitter. It's really a strange kind of madness that seems to have overtaken mostly white middle class people. I don't know why.

Well I think the fact that Donald Sterling employed black people and (correct me if I'm wrong) discriminated against blacks, telling someone not to bring them to he's games.

Hogan said what he did 8 years ago but has never been recorded actively discriminated against someone who is black.

What Hogan said was racist, and WWE is right in detatching themselves from the media storm this could cause. Still worries me that someone can get punished this much for something they said behind closed doors, 8 years ago. Ironic that "Hulkamania" was born in 1984.

Words cannot describe how little I care about this. That being said, even if the official reason was the private conversation almost ten years ago, I don't think they would kick him out just because of that. There must be more to it.

I hope people may see where this PC BS is leading.

Guy does shitty thing and can't just repent and apologize anymore. Now guy must be utterly destroyed by the thought police.

We can see the seeds of a totalitarian regime 1984 style being planted right now.
I love the idea that the totalitarian age starts with the Hulkster

OOHH BROTHER THE TIME OF 24 INCH PYTHONS IS OVER, THE GOVERNMENT HAS US IN A CAMEL CLUTCH NOW BROTHERRR, THE ONLY THING WE CAN DO IS CHALLENGE THE GOVERMENT INTO A YAPAPI STRAP MATCH BROTHER.

A lot of people seem very forgiving when it comes to themselves, but there also seems to be no limit when they are offended for someone else. Most of the guys I know are like you, just basically a bit too busy with their own lives worry about what someone says about their race. Maybe you're like me in that when someone is sitting there insulting you one way or another, I just kind of feel sorry for them. So much time and energy devoted to something like that feels wasted to me.

I also happen to have a black and white picture from 30 years ago of a younger Hogan kicking a dog.

The man must pay for his crimes, shame, shame, shame!

Don't you just love how they say "Offensive language and slurs" without ever saying exactly what was said? Thus allowing everyone to assume the worst, some kind of hate-filled screed, thus guaranteeing all the twitter trolls and the easily offended will riot when it could have been a stupid, out of context joke. But we can't know so we cant make a reasonable judgement.

I'm getting sick and tired of seeing things presented this way
Then why didn't you post something for context? Did you actually look it up before complaining? It was pretty easy to find stuff even before it was posted here.
You miss the point. My complaint is about news sources using general terms like this to start a shitstorm. Whether or not i could find the details elsewhere is irrelevant.

To put your mind at ease, this is (one of) the thing that got his ass shitcanned.

I don't know if Brooke was f***ing the black guy's son.

I mean, I don't have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f***ing n****s. But then when it comes to nice people and s***, and whatever.

I mean, I'd rather if she was going to f*** some n*****, I'd rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n***** worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player!
Its no all mexicans are rapists and murderers, but its definitely in the "this shit is racist as fuck" camp.

Thanks but i knew what he said. I'm just pissy about how this stuff is almost always reported in a way that never makes clear whether it was (as it was in this case) something real nasty or just a dumb remark

While I'm no fan of firing people for their beliefs, this doesn't really bother me at all. It's not like he was some random nobody working behind the scenes on some project who is valued only for skills, he's a fucking wrestler who makes absurd amounts of money on his name and public persona. This is just a case of "live by the sword, die by the sword".

As to how long ago it is and whether or not it was private, that doesn't really matter. It's not like WWE are some altruistic charity, they're a business, they're distancing themselves from him because there will be a negative PR situation regardless of whether or not he said it today or eight years ago. The same goes for whether it was public or private. While they really shouldn't have released the transcripts, people aren't going to just stick their fingers in their ears just because he didn't know he was being recorded. If some politician said in the privacy of their own home that they think Hitler was right and we ought to have a new holocaust, will you just shout "nope, doesn't count, he doesn't actually support Hitler because he didn't mean for us to hear it"? People are mad at him for being racist, and regardless of the ethics of recording someone without their permission, what he said is racist whether or not it was intended for public hearing.

For me, this had the opposite effect; I actually assumed it was far more tame due to the never ending stream of people in recent memory who've been raked through the coals for remarks that aren't really that bad, and in some cases, aren't even racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic/whateverthefuckelsephobic. It was actually somewhat of a shock to see someone being pilloried for remarks that actually are rather detestable. Let's face it, its not like he made a slightly racist joke that people are now twisting to suit an agenda, he outright admitted to being racist and hating black people.

While he may have changed over eight years, I'm not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Although, on a related note, I do think it's rather ridiculous that the WWE are now scrubbing him out of their history. His actions seem like, at most, a reason to cease dealings with him, but removing him from their records just seems like an over reaction.
