I like this change. I don't think you guys understand how stupid some people can be. For instance, one of my roommates was trying to play Fallout NV recently. He skipped all of the dialogue, randomly selected his responses, and then was incredibly confused when he had no idea what he was supposed to do.
Then there's the people who love the story of Mass Effect, but can't seem to handle the combat. Like my dad. He enjoys the occasional sci-fi story, but he can't move and shoot at the same time to save his virtual life. He might enjoy the dialogue, but too much combat would put him off.
Then there's the RPG selection, for the rest of us. Seriously, as long as that's still there, what is there to complain about?

So, this news is going to turn of how many people from buying this game next March?

If this was an "unintentional" leak, they would have waited until the 12th or 18th to drop the ball.

Fine, if you must. But I can't think of anyone who would actually play on the "Action" setting. Mass Effect isn't Gears of War, it isn't even Uncharted(Thank god).

Bioware needs to accept that nobody will ever be a better TPS than a pure TPS. Bioware make better games anyway, IMO.

I've never shed a tear at a headshot.

I can't believe that this is how it'll be upon release. Automatic replies? What the hell use is that? Someone who doesn't want to sit through the story isn't going to enjoy the game more because they turn the diolgue into cutscenes. Some of those dialogue trees are long, like 20 min long. So they make them skipable by pressing X, then what? You have a narative driven game that jumps between locations with no indication of what's going on.

No... this isn't what the games going to be like. Probably the game setting were just for the devs so they can access different parts of the game without cutscenes/combat getting in the way of whatever section they are bug testing.

So long as they didn't sacrifice the story for those more accustomed to GOW or COD I can't really complain. I get their trying to make the game more accessible to a broader spectrum of players but it seems really unnecessary, I feel its time and resources that could've been spent on extra side missions and for those who don't like the idea of dialog and choices having a real impact on story, have a plethora of games geared towards them.

Increase hype? Sir, you will not be able to see the hype from the size of the shitstorm the Action Mode be conjurin' up. Unjustifiably so too, since nothing is being cut out and the people who are buying for the story (ala 90% of people buying) have the RPG mode. But, loads of people will ignore this, and there will be much excrement whirling about at high velocities.

Note: I do not condone people who skip the story of mass Effect. Those people are rather unintelligent.
Dude, trust me, calling people out for crying over ME changes that don't actually affect them and only give other players options is like trying to have a go at birds for flying.

Especially on this fucking forum.

But I have to say, you've clearly never played through ME on a speed/achievement run if you feel entitled to label people who skip ME scenes as 'unintelligent'.

Why not go whole hog and have: "CoD playing retard," "filthy casual gamer" and "basement troll" settings?
And just when I thought maybe a ME thread would happen without people assuming CoD players(all several million of them) are sub-human and that casual players should be sent down the mines. Le Sigh.

In fact, what was the point of this post exactly? Where the hell are the mods when you need em?
I was referring to people who buy Mass Effect and don't care about the story from playthrough 1. If players don't want story, just action filled fun, good for them, it's their own game experience and I harbour no ill will towards them. But if one of those people buys Mass Effect just for the combat, and skips through dialogue right away, that's just stupid, there are tons of other games with better gameplay which isn't heavily story orientated. Apologies for the confusion. I think CoD players and whatnot are as equal intellectually as everyone else.

People who don't like the RPG elements in Mass Effect shouldn't play Mass Effect
Yes master we understand master I will spread the order master.

I mean really? If they include an action variant then action players can enjoy it.

OT: That's actually pretty cool, I think I'll try all three modes.

So long as there's a difficulty setting independent of this I have no issue with it. Cause really normal mode is ridiculous in these games. Although my dream is that Bioware will actually improve the AI for the higher difficulties instead of just giving every goddamn mob 6 layers of shield. That may be harder Bioware, but it not fun either, just tedious. Also i dream that the difficulty setting effected the dialogue... you know, the whole reason i'm playing the game?

Well that seams ok. At first look I was a little scared that the 3 modes would all be different but if it is basicly, story time, combate fun or both that is fine. Looks like I will be enjoying the best of both worlds.

Sounds like bioware knows that some people want action and others want the slower pased story stuff, nothing wrong with that. Although If you played the first 2 you already know what you want, and I have a feeling it is going to be a feature not many will notice...until someone selects wrong and is wandering where the text parts are or why the enermyies are so easy.

and if they do advotise the feature not sure how they will...Love the last 2 games but wish it was all action and no talky boring bits we got you sorted, or Love the story but hate the battle machanics well come on in we got you sorted.

People didn't like having the dialog options? Well, I learned something new today.

I like the idea. It will make other play throughs to see story twists easier without having to do the same combat over and over. Not sure I'll use it tho, sounds like RPG (the actual friggin game) for me.
If you can look me in the eye and say that 99.6%+ of the people who played the game didn't just pick all Renegade or all Paragon dialog choices without regard for what was actually being said, YOU LIE. (With the sole exception of some Renegade people blowing up the Collector Base)

The dialog option just tells me 'Yes, we know that our alignment system is shit. We're sorry. Here's an option to just automatically give you alignment points.'
Actually, I just make a character and personality, and play through with that. Tends to take mostly one way or the other, but certainly not always. I've thrown a few people out of windows and busted some reporters in the face with mostly Paragons when it suited them. I've saved lives when practical with some Renegades.

Ah, I love this forum. So predictable. News post related to Mass Effect 3 pops up and the posters are ranting about how this news is proof that Bioware is trying to appeal to too many groups and is abandoning its true fans. It's like clockwork. Sun rises, sun sets, people ***** about Bioware.

Actually, this news seems to be taken fairly well for this forum. As far as my feelings on the news...well, it is a bit odd to be giving choices like this in the third when they weren't put in the first or second. However, as long as they still have traditional difficulty settings, I'm all for it.

And count me in the .4% that actually read the dialogue options and think "What would my Shepard do?" With three exceptions. That mook is always getting pushed out the window, Tali will get a hug, and the Collector base will be blown up.

I don't think there is much wrong with this, granted I kind of find story mode a bit weird. I would usually go RPG mode, but if the coop is fun enough and I get to playing it a lot, I could see going to action mode eventually.
I say this because there could come a point when every possible dialogue option has been chosen (multiple times possibly), and I might just want to go coop with team mates. Granted, I don't know how long the missions are or how many there will be so this is all just assuming they are fairly short missions of coop. Maybe not, it might be long enough or interesting enough to always use RPG mode all of the time.
