Xbox One Controller PC Compatible in 2014

I'll be getting one because of these reasons:

1: I like to game for long periods of time. My back starts hurting after a while over my K+M. I want to lounge back with a controller.
2: I don't already have a 360 controller. Since I'm not desperate for one, I'll wait for the newest model.
3: MS DID fix the stupid D-pad and improved the control sticks on the new controller, so that's a plus over the 360 controller that I don't have.

And that's also why I think I'll actually NOT throw criticism at Microsoft or get caught up in the Keyboard-and-Mouse vs. controller war this time. Godspeed.

Love how the Windows 8 hate makes it's way into every related thread. I wonder how many people who hate Windows 8 have actually used it for more than a few minutes. I have been using it since the beta and while it isn't perfect, it isn't as bad as people say. In fact, going back to Windows 7 on my laptop is a pain now. Windows 7 is slower.

Can't see much point in getting one, honestly. The games on PC that control better with a controller (which aren't that numerous) work just fine with a 360 controller, or I imagine with a lot of other third party controllers. Unlike consoles, PC users don't need to change keyboards of controllers with each upgrade.

And yet, people will go out of their way to get a more ergonomic keyboard or mouse. It's like there's already a built-in explanation within your example or something.

Wait, didn't the Xbox One have weird unique ports for all it's controllers, headsets etc. so you couldn't use any 3rd party peripherals on the machine? How will it plug into the computer?

Apart from that it's quite a nice thought, although I agree with the people saying it'll be a windows 8 exclusive, you just know it will.

If it plugs in at all, likely a USB port. The proprietary connectors are for the headset plugging into the back for "accessories," which has nothing to do with connectivity of the unit itself and should in no way impact PC gaming.

What possible benefits could this have on PC over a 360 controller? I have no issues sticking with a 360 controller....especially since I just got one the other day. Works great but it feels odd when I put it down and put up the PS3 controller.

Reduced dead spots on the thumb sticks, better response, a D-Pad that isn't complete ass, something about the triggers.

I'm not saying I'm upgrading, but I can certainly see why people might find these beneficial.

Unfortunately, my PC isn't online all the time, so I'll be sticking with my off-line capable 360 controller.

Love my Xbox 360 pad on the PC.
It getting old though (have been using it since the Xbox 360 launch).
I might need to replace at one point or another so this could be a nice choice.

However I have some requirements:

- Win 7

I wonder why professional Starcraft players use Keyboard+mouse, rather than a modded Wii U controller. Could it be something to do with macros and keybindings, perhaps? Or maybe they're just yet to recognise your genius.

Because all RTS games are Starcraft. One wonders what the players would choose if they weren't restricted by the rules.

No, but all RTS games use hotkeys. Unless they are made with a controller in mind, which tends to create a poor quality game.
Give it up, numerous games are better with a keyboard. Trying to reach even 50 actions per minute with a Wiimote would be one of the most frustrating things anyone could ever do. It would be like typing with the Windows 8 onscreen keyboard using your mouse.

I use my Dual Shock 3 when I need to. I saw the outrageous price that they're still charging for a wireless Xbox 360 controller and laughed. I'll deal with having to use motionjoy.

People have tried playing FPS games with mouse and keyboard vs Gamepads. Mouse and keyboard was and still is superior to gamepad or any other device. Same would go for RTS where you just don't have enough buttons for the game.

There is just no challenge unless we somehow can make a tool that allow you to use your entire brain to direct the game.

Well thank god you aren't overlord then. Personally I actually enjoy the RTS, FPS, and space sim genres, none of which work well with a controller .

OT: Xbox 360 is by far the best controller I have ever used, and this looks like an upgrade to that, so I might actually pick one of these up assuming MS doesn't go full retard and make the drivers win8 exclusive.

Meh. I heard the ps4 controller is the most comfortable thing ever. 6+ months for xb1 support? I bet by then there'll be a version of motion joy or some other program to use the ps4 controller on the pc. Not to mention it has a click able touch pad on it. Sounds like it'll be great for emulating a mouse on the desktop

That leaves some questions unanswered:

Will it work with X-input compatible games designed for the 360 controller?
Will new games designed for this one work with the 360 controller (There doesn't seem to be a difference in buttons between the two)?
Will this new controller provide better DirectInput support (making the triggers act like buttons instead of an axis)?

Doesn't yours gets worn out over time? I use an Xbox 360 controller (which I got almost 3 years ago) and the left stick's soft casing got worn out over time and now I come in direct contact with the plastic. I was going to get a new controller anyway and I'll probably go for the Razor X-input compatible controller.

No, not really, none of my gaming equipment really ever wears down. I've had my 360 PC controller for just as long as you have and it's still in near pristine condition, and I do use it quite frequently. The best explanation I can offer is that I take meticulous care of my electronic stuff; I don't even know how my stuff lasts so long.

The changes seem to be neat and reasonable from an ergonomical perspective, although I'm not 100% convinced about the wire/wireless implimentation. Maybe someday... because I regret having bought the white version of the 360 controller. The controller is great just that it gathers so much dirt and you see it all thanks to the white surface (°_°

From other sources on the subject, it appears they're doing what Sony did with the PS3 controller. A wireless controller with wired connectivity via a USB port which can likely also charge the wireless portion.

Which is weird, because it means Microsoft is still backwards.

RTS games would actually be better with Wii U setup.

I have not tried it so I cannot comment upon it, however it may come in use in a game like Supreme Commander as you can split the screen in that game.

Edit: Besides, many games cannot be played in any way with a gamepad.
