According to the Escapist article I heard this from, Killer Instinct is going to be a free downloadable game featuring a single fighter. $5 per each additional fighter, or you can buy 8 for $20.ZZoMBiE13 said:As I understand it, that is one way to get the characters if you want to, but not the only way. As for the point of this article and RYSE, well I wouldn't have bought that game anyway. But it's still pretty despicable.
Sometimes I wonder if Jim doesn't have a time machine, his predictions as to where the game industry is heading are often scarily accurate.AC10 said:This "fee-to-pay" system, as Jim so eloquently put it, is getting fucking out of hand.
It's just a money grab and it's boring. Games are suffering for it.
Multiplayer is now 100% about milking your customers like cows and making sure they're on the treadmill.
I remember when just making a fun game to play online, like Unreal Tournament or Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, was all it took.
I'm not going to tell people what they should do with their money, but damn there are better things than this.
Moreover, this system sounds like gambling to me. In Japan, they recently had to put an age restriction on games using similar systems to this as the courts considered it to be identical to gambling with real money.
I think you forgot something. You can't fail the QTE. I don't even hate QTEs (mostly cause the only game I ever played with them was God of War) and I despise the idea that it doesn't matter whether you press the button or not. You still kill the enemy.Vie said:Could the news about this game get any worse?
First its a quick time event marathon, now its a quick time event marathon with multiplayer (which one has to assume can't use QTE's or will be a question of "Who presses the button fastest" instead of gameplay) and micro-transactions.
Dose Crytek need to do a Tax write-off and want an excuse or something?
Also, I see we are still using that Captcha that requires me to guess which betting shop dose a special offer... ..classy.
That may be what you read, but it isn't what you said. You CAN buy them one at a time or you can bundle them up. And it's not like you buy the $60 game then buy characters, each purchase will net you every thing you can do with that character from online play to story campaign, etc.RJ 17 said:According to the Escapist article I heard this from, Killer Instinct is going to be a free downloadable game featuring a single fighter. $5 per each additional fighter, or you can buy 8 for $20.ZZoMBiE13 said:As I understand it, that is one way to get the characters if you want to, but not the only way. Check the original post of mine that you quoted...."You have to pay for characters." Bundle or one at a time.....you're still paying for characters. How is that not what I said?ZZoMBiE13 said:That may be what you read, but it isn't what you said. Well, for starters you don't have just the option of buying the characters one at a time, there are bundle packs and a disc version of the game. But to be fair, let me go back and check like you suggest:RJ 17 said:Check the original post of mine that you quoted...."You have to pay for characters." As for why I'm painting it in a negative light...are you kidding me? You don't find the very concept/principle of a fighting game in which you have to pay money to unlock the fighters to be disgusting? If you don't, meh, to each their own I guess. No real point in discussing it.

I really wanna know why Microsoft seems hell-bent on making their next-gen console so unattractive. Granted this one could be Crytek's call rather than Microsoft's, but still...that makes 2 Xbox Exclusives that are part of "THE GREATEST LAUNCH LINE-UP IN HISTORY!!!" that have thus far made themselves absolutely unappealing to (I'm guessing) the majority of the gamer market. So far, MS is failing to uphold that lofty "best in history" claim.
You're still being charged for fighters, and as I implied here:ZZoMBiE13 said:Snip.
It's the very principle of the thing that I find insulting. If you're fine with a game claiming to be "Free-to-Play" then saying "Oh yeah, if you want the rest of it you actually will have to pay for it." then have at it. Doesn't matter if it's cheaper than buying a full-priced game, the fact that they claim it's F2P in one breath and say they'll be charging you for full access to the game in the next makes the first statement just a bold-faced lie.RJ 17 said:You don't find the very concept/principle of a fighting game in which you have to pay money to unlock the fighters to be disgusting?
But you aren't charged for the base game. When you buy a fighting game, you're being charged for the fighters. I don't see why this is so hard for you to understand. Nobody was saying this game was gonna be an f2p game, they were saying you can play one character for free and just buy who you want.RJ 17 said:You're still being charged for fighters, and as I implied here:ZZoMBiE13 said:Snip.

Well then, enjoy your micro-transactions, sir. For the 3rd time I'm not trying to get you (or zombie) to agree with my line of thinking, so I'll just bid you good day.Benpasko said:But you aren't charged for the base game. Well said, good sir. Nothing personal about it, just a difference of opinions/principles. I wish you a most pleasant evening as well. :3ZZoMBiE13 said:Well it's been nice talking with you.RJ 17 said:You're still being charged for fighters, and as I implied here:ZZoMBiE13 said:Snip.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment.
Hope you have a good evening.
