There's been a lot of betrayals in the game world. DRM, Day One DLC, the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3 - all of these injustices have come, incited the wrath of the gamers, and then slowly faded from our minds.
But not this one.
Here and now, we must make a pact. A promise to be remembered in the days to come. And that promise is, no matter what happens down the road, we will never forget the injustices the Xbox One has committed. Mandatory online connection, locking games into the system, the blocking of used games - all of this could fade from our minds if we let it. But now, we make a pact to remember all the evil that has transpired, to never let ourselves forget what Microsoft has done against games. Because if we don't - well, they'll just do it again.
Now, place your right hand on the Internet and chant, as one:
By the power of the Internet, by the persistence of Success Kid, by the anger of Youtube and the cruelty of 4chan, and with the strength of a thousand Redditors, I shall remember the injustices of Microsoft to the end of time.

EDIT: Sorry about that, guys. It's late, and I wanted to shout at the internet for a while. Maybe just write a little reminder down on a post-it note.

Calm down. It's not that serious. If you want to buy an Xbox One, buy it. If not, don't. But dont make some sort of religion out of it. Videogaming isn't a cult.

Internet pacts are pathetically useless. Also, it doesn't block used games, or fully lock games into the system. A lot of it is limited like Steam is, though I wish the Xbone had a solid offline mode like Steam does. The Xbone is a bit of a disappointment, I'm not too excited about it like I was with the 360, but I'm getting really tired of people acting like it's the single worst thing made ever. I certainly hope changes are made post-launch, but I'm not going to feign righteousness and go "I shall boycott!" when I know for a fact I'm going to cave eventually. Not going to be a day one adopter, but I know I'll end up buying it after price drop or if I find a good deal with a bundle.

By the way, most of your points are incorrect, or at least subject to intense hyperbole. 'Mandatory online connection' once a day, 'blocking of used games'... actually, I can't remember MS's current stance, it changes so much.
Anyway, I was thinking of getting one. It has better exclusives.

Best exclusives trumps your call for action lol.

Particularly when it's not nearly as bad as what you make it out to be.
Well really, it's only not as bad if you're in the US and have good internet connection. Games are debatable (different strokes, etc). For everyone else, it's quite bad. Also, who makes a pact with random strangers on an internet forum???

Well, to each their own and everything. The stuff shown at the PS4 reveal was miles more interesting, imo. I liked the look of MGSV (multi-format) and Titanfall (out on PC, too) looked OK. Nothing else grabbed me, though. Ryse, in particular, stands out as looking truly awful.

Still, if the DRM in the One isn't an issue for you, and is not something which bothers you, then I don't see why you should boycott it on everyone else's account. Personally my low funds and the fact that I have to cancel and uncancel my internet every few months make the Xbone is unusuable for me. It seems like all of it's media hub features, except for the cable box integration, will be available on PS4 and PC, too. And personally, I'd rather use a remote to swap to TV than the Kinect.

I was thinking of Sunset Overdrive and Spark, but PS4 doesn't have any exclusives I find that interesting. That said, because of the price I will still get a PS4- I posted that comment before it got to the part in my stream about price. And the Mad Max game.

I'm not gonna make a pact, I'm just not gonna buy the thing. Even ignoring the DRM the PS4 is £80 cheaper, has more exclusives I'm interested in and has better support for indie developers. It's a no-brainer for me.

I don't need to make a pact.

I'm just not going to buy the damn thing.

See? That wasn't hard was it?

And with 99% less melodrama.

Calm down, people. Microsoft hasn't done terrible things to your dog. They're a COMPANY. They don't know you exist.

You don't like what they do, don't buy their stuff, but don't try to whip up some sort of "boycott" or make a "pact". You can only speak for yourself.

I just won't buy the fucking thing.
WHOA SHOCK HORROR SOMETHING LOGICAL ON A GAMING WEBSITE

Of course I will shit-talk it whenever possible, and hope that some M$ exec sees my post and decides that yes, they are giant fucking idiots and decide to remove all the DRM, put the price down by $200, and get some more interesting games on it.

Shall we also do some sort of group cult dance that will cast a terrible curse on Don Mattrick too?

Seriously though, we don't need to make some sort of "pact"

Not going to pay £419, which is over $650, for something which adds so little to my living room, seems dumb.

Don't need to act out an overly dramatic performance alone at my computer to not buy something, seems... weird.

I understand your feelings on this but your manner of expressing them is a bit odd, tone down the drama a little, its bad customer service for an entertainment system, not slavery.

A pact lol yeah whatever. Im not getting an Xbox One though, I have managed to not cave into Steam and I am sure I can easily manage to not cave to the Xbone. Now if they release the remake of FFVII as an Xbox One exclusive then I may have a conundrum I suppose I would have to marvel at their stupidity for doing so and then watch a lets play video on youtube.

A pact!? Really!? Why?

I am not going to get one, because I am in the military and often don't have internet, so am already excluded from their customer base. What I am not going to do is kick up a stink about it, or sign anything saying I won't get one... In the future my circumstances may change, and it may warrant me purchasing one, but at the moment I am going to stick with the PS4.

And so what if you can't get second hand games... You can't buy a downloadable game second hand, and this is exactly the same!

People saying better exclusives than the ps4 what... halo 5... are you serious? The games on xbone look awful like beyond terrible, the only good ones are coming out for the ps4 as well

You see, whilst I totally agree that's how business works and that there has to be an element of cuthroatness and detachment which comes with that, Microsoft have a duty of care to show it's customers the respect they deserve, and repay them for giving them such a foothold in the console market to begin with.

By investing in Microsoft these past few years the gamer has funneled funds to them which could have gone elsewhere, and in doing so have placed trust in them to use those fund for the good of the industries future - not just themselves.

As you say, we can take it or leave it, but people should feel pissed off at how Microsoft have acted - most people do what they do (graphic designer, fisherman, architect etc.) out of an initial passion for their chosen field, whereas Microsoft just have a passion for making money. That's fine if they stick to that passion and back the creative types, giving them the platforms, backing and freedom to create great things and fulfill their own passion. However the passion for making money has actively stifled that, and if all gamers were to take a bit of a stand it would be the quest way of re-addressing the balance IMO.
Nope, Microsoft doesn't have a duty towards its customers. They have a duty towards their shareholders.

I've been watching MS mess up the X-Bone reveal 82 ways from Sunday and all I've been thinking is, "wow, have they just fired all their marketing people and gotten a lobotomized Proboscis monkey instead?". They've been incredibly arrogant and condescending towards their own customer base, trying to sell something that nobody's wanted since the first release of Windows Media Center back in the day, but that's their prerogative.

It's our prerogative, however, to vote with our wallets. Don't start acting all hurt and agonized because Microsoft has "betrayed you". They don't know who you are.

They made a decision to do this, and the ONLY way to let them know they've messed up is to hurt their bottom line and not give them your money.

I'm in . But it has to be a blood pact . With sacrifices and everything .

So what we need is . A knife , a virgin , a lunar eclipse , some black hoods , some candles , and a bag of oreos . Because everything is better with oreos.
