Yahtzee-Do you take him seriously?

I don't treat any of Yahtzee's stuff as actual review. If I was considering a game, his would be only one review I'd look at. And I'd look at more than 5 others before I made up my mind.

For me, Yahtzee is mostly just comedy. The reviews I love most are the ones where he shreds games I really enjoyed - because I can then relate to a lot of the comments he makes. When he reviews a game I've never heard of, it's still a bit funny, but nothing like for a game I've actually played!

I usually only watch Zero Punctuation for the giggles, but I do take some of his points into account. Especially on games that don't have a bad word spoken about them, Yahtzee will still pick out the bad points.

Useful for a different perspective. Better for a laugh.

Yahtzee seems to be quite interested in the narrative of a game. He's always criticizing story structure for its integrity, characters for their consistency, and atmosphere ... well, atmosphere is more or an overall result, but that too.

Given the fact that most games have terrible writing, or the writing just doesn't seem to stick with what the game is going for, it's very usual you'll find Yahtzee skull fucking most releases.

He may pass off as being opinionated, but if you look at it from the perspective of "oh, he's mostly after the story ..." then you may be on the right track. So yeah, I tend to take him seriously.

Well for most of the people who can't figure it out for themselfs he said it himself: everything he doesn't judge is good, he is a critic not someone who can't stop clamping on the game (check gamestop ppl for this)

Ok... I don't understand why you need a rating system. Can you not listen to what he has to say? Take Dark Void for example. That game has its really good parts, but there are so many stupid design choices, the regular gunplay is mediocre, and some of the levels drag on for about twice as long as it takes for them to stop being fun. How am I supposed to grade a game like that when I really enjoyed it at some parts but at others hated it? And considering I only bought it for 10 bucks, I probably would have graded it more harshly had I spent more money on it. What he does is makes jokes and points out all the worst parts of the game which is his job. There are some games he tears apart and then says he likes (Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood) and sometimes points out some positives... I don't take him seriously, but I do think about what he says when buying a game. I think "Ok... the game is heavy on dialogue and can be confusing... I can deal with that." The thing is, it seems like more recently he's been just trolling... saying a game must stand up on single-player alone is a completely flawed statement, because how do you explain Team Fortress 2 or other similar games? Playing 5 hours of Final Fantasy XIII and writing off games before he even plays them like that... I'm taking him less and less seriously, but at least they're funny which is what they were always meant to be.

Yahtzee is to a video game review as The Colbert Report is to Fox News
Untrue, because a video game reviewer actually plays the games they're reviewing and knows what they're talking about.

Yes, but his rants don't always make me rejudge my opinion. His review points out alot of flaws in games it's true but sometimes people need to be shown the bad side before they can appreciate the good.

Yahtzee offers a lot of flaws in all of the games he reviews in Zero Punctuation, but without a ratings system and constantly looking over the positive things, it's hard to feel like he's told me enough about the game for me to go by his word. I don't take Yahtzee seriously.
Do you?
Ratings systems suck imo, but each to his own. Also, I don't think anyone takes yahtzee at face value.

I honestly find many of my opinions coinciding with his, on most points.
He demands higher standards, in ways that do not cost a fortune, as do I.

Totally 100% seriously .. of course not. But he does bring up good points from time to time. And seeing as how I have a similar critic streak, as well as similar feelings about the game industry as a whole right now. Hes doing better than most reviewers available.

Respect, like an internet connection, is a reciprocated thing. Does Yahtzee respect his audience?

I listen to him yes and take on board what he has to say and weigh it against other reviews I consider trustworthy and decide myself.
