They took out all the side missions or You mean I can't spray the city is crap anymore? -shrug- I wouldn't mind NEW side missions. Having the same old ones would make the game feel recycled. But if they flat out took them out. That would be a bummer. Still going to buy it though.

You forgot Portal and Saints Row 2, which he gave the best reviews for.

I should also say that he won't hate it, the bloody point of the series was how wacky and over the top it was, and they just built onto that. I think it will be something like Portal 2, its good or great but just not as top notch as the last one was.

Come to think of it, I think Saints Row The Third actually took a few of Yahtzee's complaints and fixed them. Namely, no more obligatory side-missions and they made it even more like roleplaying a supervillain.

And since when was Yahtzee a top reviewer whose opinion decided the success of games?

That would be the Super Smash Bros Brawl Mailbag showdown...

and the fact that I actually know that without looking it up before hand, shows me that I waste WAY too much time on the escapist o_O

OT: Really, why should he? I don't feel like he "murdered" Arkham City and his opinion was obvious: The game is too sandbox-y and sqly. and if you think that he'll criticise the game for its flawsin design choices,
WELL OF COURSE HE WILL. He's a freaking critic. That's his damn job.
Now that you mention it. F yeah that was the one x3 *we spend to much time on escapist highfive*
Besides, even if he likes it, he'll be the critic and cynic. I wouldn't wanna have it any other way to be fairly honest ;)

It did boost the sales of Painkiller by a lot, if I remember correctly... they even included the gun with tits & on fire in their next release as a kind of a thank You. So, yeah. A good review from Yahtzee may count for more than You think.

This is probably the least productive thread I've ever seen. There's hardly any discussion that's worthwhile, and OP is way too badly written and encourages no discussion whatsoever. Man, I am dissapoint.

...or the four Prince of Persia games.

...or Portal 1&2.

...or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

...or Silent Hill 3&4.

...or Batman: Arkham Asylum.

...or Super Mario Galaxy.

...or Resistance 3.

...or Driver: San Francisco.

Do you actually watch his reviews, or do you just complain anyway?
Also Killer7, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bioshock, Psychonauts, Left 4 Dead 1&2... It goes on to be honest. Still, I think predicting it's gonna be a "IT'S THE SAME F****** GAME" is probably justified. I still want it.

Okay. My bad apparently. If you listened to his "reviews", you would play about 10 different games over and over again. I apologize that I don't study and memorize his videos.
YOU SHOULD BE!
Stop getting TRIVIAL things WRONG!!!
:p

OP: Yeah, probably, still won't stop me from enjoying the game though.

So Saints Row 2 is great, and this new game isn't as great, so ZP will be 'REALLY MEAN' cuz it isn't better than the second game?
.
Yeah, that sums it up nicely.

Uh, doi?

If there's one thing he hates more than sequels, it's sequels to games he liked.

I reckon it'll be the same as his Batman Arkham City review. 'Not getting out of here without a recommendation, but I'm going to pick nits like an emphetamine fuelled chimp.'

i already own it and am enjoying it.

its my opinion however that there are some major losses in SR3 compaired to SR2

that and the crappy sound effects =P

Nitrus sounds like really bad dubbed Japaniese movie. the car goes woosh and a second later you get the nitrus sound effect lol.

the storyline has suffered the massive freedom it had in SR2 and is bascially nearly entirely made up of what is little more than submissions/dirversions. each story mission in SR2 was unique. SR3 a good chunk of them is bascially copy/paste dirversions.

there are also less freedoms in the customizations that range from minor to massive. the largest is how clothing can be customized. you used to be able to create purely custom outfits using multi layers of clothing for vaired effects. in this game thats dropped to nearly 1/3 of what you could do in SR2.

over all i would say its a fun game but its not quite as good as SR2 was.

of course i hold SR2 as one of the best games i ever played with only minor issues relating to gameplay.

Yahtzee will enjoy it but idk if he will like it better than SR2 overall.

Yahtzee. Murderer of Games.
I like it.

Can't say for myself, as I haven't played any Saint's Row game, but Yahtzee tends to "murder" anything he plays that he doesn't have fond memories of or finds truely innovative, but that's his style. He's said himself that he's a critic, not a reviewer.

It's a little weird to see the nostalgia affect work on that one.

In the original review, he rips on it pretty hard. A few years later, and he holds it up like a golden standard while tearing into bioshock2. C'est la vie de la critics I suppose...

Saints Row 3 so far is really disappointing compared to SR2. The music isn't as good, the mission structure is too linear. I don't feel compelled to explore at all. They made a mistake letting you use your phone as a mission hub, I never feel compelled to look at the map so I don't go looking for side content.

Maybe I'll feel different later but I'm only three hours in and I think I'm halfway through act 2. :/

Also...
Gat's death? LAME. Off screen, I didn't even believe he was dead until the Boss and Shaundi are driving a hearse at the start of Act 2 so I assume they actually recovered his body. Wtf, Volition? Daniel Dae Kim too expensive to do more than a few lines?

so much of the good stuff is compeltly gone. yes its more wacky and over the top but too much that made SR2 a great game is gone, making SR3 just a "good" game.

many aspects of SR3 will appeal to him like no other game has but i feel that SR2 will seem the better overall in his eyes.
Who cares about his opinion anyway :p
I believe he said somewhere that you should not look to other people for a 'yay' or 'nay' on buying games. Can't remember for the life of me what episode. He will take the piss out of it no matter what. He's a cynic :p

It's what he does.
I believe it was the one where he responds to the fans after Smash Bros Brawl cos of their stupidity

I don't understand your post. Why didn't you just write your own review? Yeah Yahtzee's funny and good with animations but that's not stopping you spending a bit of time sharing your opinion. Chances are he won't have the exact same opinion as yours anyway so it's not like his review will have everything you'd like to say about the game in it.

Specifically, what's gone that lessens the enjoyment?
They removed some of the Barbie dress up. Which some people apparently obsess over.
It'd be a much better game if you were locked down to using this character anywany:

I do kinda miss FUZZ and crowd control. However, Hijacking a car by jumping through the windshield never loses its charm as a spectacle. But then again, there are quick-time events (though rather aptly applied at rare events). I dunno, it's on the cards. I'm having fun with it :D
